My RAF Ambulance just arrived! (1 Viewer)

That RAF ambulance looks real good. I've given in and purchased one and after these pics am even more eager than ever to receive it. This RAF series is awesome, its quickly becoming one of my favourites! I think I've caught the completist bug again!

Totally agree. A year or so ago I had two favourite ranges, D Day and Arnhem, but this RAF range is just as good as those two for me now without doubt.

Don't know if anyone saw on the BBC whilst talking about BOB that quite by chance they have found notebooks filled with day-to-day info fromSir Douglas Baders last three or four years. Sat from his death apparantly on top of a tall shelf and was found when they started clearing and renovating. The woman nearly chucked it out as she thought it was rubbish.

What a read from a remarkable man. even hearing about what he bought and what he thought about politicans would be great read

Yes I saw this on the news tonight too Mitch, what a find, no doubt once its been sorted it'll be worth a few bob. He was an incredible man wasn't he, twenty six victories despite having no legs, he showed just the determination that generation needed, what an inspiration:cool:.

Absolutely amazing. Never ever tire of reading about his exploits. people do like to talk about military might winning the war but, there were so many, many, characters like him for me that were the real reason we won the war.

They just did not know when to give up
Mitch

Rob, so many nice things, but what about before? RAF series is number one for me now. I looking forward to Austin Light Utility (RAF version). Have you also reservation on it?
mario:)

Absolutely. These guys really had some stones, we forget just how much they wanted to get up there and shoot the enemy down. I saw a docu 'Hitlers invasion of Britain' in which they interviewed an RAF Spitfire pilot, he said;
' Who did they think they were, coming over here in their bloody little aircraft with their bloody black crosses on them, they were on our patch and we weren't having it ' . So proud of them Mitch, no one can ever diminish what they did.

And then theres the Hurricane pilot who chased a Dornier (I think it was) towards Buck Palace, running out of ammo he rammed it slicing off the tail and sending it crashing to the ground before it could reach its target, so brave and totally selfless actions for his country.

The same thing happened in 1944 against the V1 bomb Rob & I'm sure a Pilot lost is life taking one down trying to save others

I have reserve only RAF version, but Desert version too very nice!!!!!!!!:)

Just got my ambulance today too. I am definitely very happy with it. I have no idea where I am going to find room to display an airfield, but I am awaiting the Austin and Spitfire. I just love all the RAF and other plane lines coming out.

My ambulance arrived today. Running out of room on my bookcase display. Wonder where to put the Spit? Outstanding series!

Think we'll get a firetruck?

Rob...

I am not sure at the moment but that quote reminds me of the world at war and, I think though not sure it was someone quite well known not sure if it was Bader will have to look that up now cannot remember which episode. There is some work unless someone knows on here.
Either way it just epitomizes that genertion.

I seem to rember reading somewhere that pilots would sometimes nudge them to veer them off course.

Initially, pilots would fly alongside these unstable craft and, drop the wing underneath the V1 fins and then raise their wings taking it of course. A very dangerous thing to do as they had a habit of going 'bang' when you least expected it.

I believe many squadron commanders banned this tactic and, wanted them shot down.
Mitch

Dangerous task though, you had to be at the right range not to get caught in explosion or hit by debris, took some nerve.

Rob

My RAF Ambulance arrived while I was away - now my RAF Airfield is starting to take shape !! :D :D
