I have been trying to think of a way to expand the two SP029 Jettys that I have acquired for my growing US Navy/Marines in China table display. A number of days ago I got an idea of how to do it and today I had the time to implement it. I built a 9-inch x 15-inch peir/jetty extension and placed it perpendicular to my K&C jettys. It is made out of Elmer's 1/4 inch foam board. I took some actual photos of the jettys and cropped them to scale. Then I adjusted my photographs color tint/saturation/brightness to match the color of the jettys. Using an exacto knife, carpenter's square, Elmer's glue, and some acrylic paints, I attached copies of the photos to the structure similar to how you would hang wall paper. By the way - each of the two K&C jettys has a 2"x6" behind it, which I had a friend of mine plane down and cut to the right height and length needed. This gave me 1.5 inches more depth behind each jetty - room for the SOHK buiding facades. Here's a couple of photos of the finished jetty extension . . . . .

Still a work in progress but its getting there . . . . . . . . . Mike

Excellent idea Mike, you have given me a great idea for my Nile Paddle Steamer;). I have two of the SP029's and I was trying to find a lower jetty, I think I have now

Cheers

Martyn:)

VERY impressive. It adds a whole new dimension to the display. (I wonder if K&C will make one now? :D ) I doubt they are finished with that range

Here's another photo taken from the side of my display table. This picture better shows the amount of depth the 2x6's behind each jetty has allowed (all of the buildings are resting on the 2x6's) and also gives another perspective to the jetty expansion I made.

Great display. Like the sampan coming under the bridge. Gives great feeling of depth.

Mike...you may want to check out Mike Miller's thread on making water. It may suit you well right now for this diorama.

Excellent Mike, you are really creative. (must be the name :D) You just need some of that magic water and you will be all set.

Great stuff

Cheers Scott

Mike

You are creating China in Wisconsin. Very impressive in every way!

Mike-

This looks fantastic, when you were telling me about it on the phone I didn't picture it 3 dimensional, I was thinking it was more of a back drop. I can't even tell the extension is not part of the original product!!

so colorful...the props are just perfect...

I can see what attracted you to this series...

you did a great job displaying it...

I could really see all this in a wooden diorama frame with water under those jetties...

VERY COOL!!!
