My Visit to the German Tank Museum (1 Viewer)

Tom,

thanks for posting all those images .... I'm not even a WW2 collector and I'm getting excited seeing all those Panzers in one place.

Glad to see they have also have some ANTI - TANK GUNS, just for us GUNNERS :) :)

Looking at the outside shots, I can now see why you sweating a bit when you stopped in for a drink with us, while in transit in Singapore..... looked SO COLD !!!!!

I'm sure these pics of you standing by the various machines will promote some 'healthy discussion' about the sizes of the armour miniatures being produced by various makers,

so WELL DONE, Tom.

John

Don't apologise for too many pics mate I reckon there wasn't enough SUPERB thread and thanks, heaps mate for taking the time to take and post them very much appreciated.

Thanks for sharing those "steel beasts".:salute::

Mate, as john said, get out there and see them! You need to get back to your roots and visit this place as well as other places in Germany. Mind you I reckon the blokes in the museum wouldn't want that as they would have to pry you off the tanks with a crow bar!!!!^&grin

Thanks to everyone else for the likes.

Hi Tom,

Thanks a lot for sharing these great pics!
Not a great WW2 Collector, but should say that I got caught in the trill and seeing so many German tanks and AFV even the soft skinned ones...at least one artillery tractor on a different "livery" that I had not seen before....For sure this is a place to visit. Guess that on a trip to Germany the Mercedes Benz museum has just been scored out of my list of places to visit and the German Tank Museum comes at the top of the list.
The vehicles seem to be in prestine state as if just rolled out from the assembly line...incredible...
Cheers
Luiz

Hi all!

I recently had a short holiday in the Netherlands and Germany (and a quick trip to visit Jakob in Denmark!) and during my trip I visited the German Tank Museum (Deutsches Panzermuseum) which is located in the small town of Munster Ortze about 76 kms from Hamburg.

It was awesome to say the least and it has one of the best collections of German armour and other vehicles in the world with only the Bovington tank museum in the UK and the tank museum in Russia (forgotten the name) having more extensive collections. The museum in Saumur France is the only other museum I have been to that has an equivalent number of German AFV's to the Deutsches Panzermuseum.

The museum also has a small number of Allied AFV's as well as an extensive collection of post world war 2 and modern armour/vehicles. To say that I was like a kid in a lolly shop would be a big understatement! {sm3}

Anyway, here's a bunch of pic's and I'm in a number of them so you get a sense of how big these monsters are! I'm around 174cm by the way!

Tom

Your welcome Luiz and yeah, the vehicles are in excellent condition and very well maintained. I also think the camouflage is spot on on all the tanks and AFV's. Here are some additional pic's including one showing some models. I'm not sure what scale they are or what brand.

Super cool thread and photos, thanks for sharing, I see a lot of DAK vehicles I don't have yet in miniature!!!

Tom

Wow! Thanks for taking all the photos and sharing them, Tom! That's an excellent collection. I wonder how many of the various WWII German types even exist.

Prost!
Brad

Thanks Tom for taking the time to post all these pics. That's quite a collection of armor in one place. It's good to have photos of you standing next to some of the tanks for a scale reference. I do the same thing when I visit a museum. It really makes you appreciate just how big some of these actually were.

Tom, your head isn't as high as the deck of the Tiger, you sure your 1:1 scale??^&grin...The photos are fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!! as much as I love the good 'ol U.S.A. armor I can sit back and see why I have always enjoyed collecting the German armor/vehicles/weapons, so many varieties of the 3 items mentioned and done very well by the German war machine, yea, they were the bad guys but man they certainly knew how to make some great weapons of war, thanks again for the photos.

No worries Brad and yeah, the Jerries made a lot of different AFV and one wonders if they just stuck to a few generic types they might have been able to produce more equipment. Mind you they probably would have still lost the war.

No worries Duke and it's not the first time I have seen many of these monsters but it's still an amazing experience to see the real deal after collecting the miniatures for so long.

I'm definitely 1:1 scale Sam but maybe I'm a little undersized for the scale???? :wink2:^&grin If I had stand on my toes I reckon my noggin might have just reach the top of the deck! {sm3}
