As you know I am a big fan of the WBritain’s War along the Nile range and last year made a number of permanent dioramas using my figure collection. While I was making these I was starting to collect WB’s Zulu figures for a new project.
I ended up getting 50 figures (and a wagon) in all for my Zulu War diorama, mostly Britain’s and just two TG British casualties. I wanted to portray three different Zulu Regiments attacking against the dwindling numbers of the British 24[SUP]th[/SUP]Regt.
I repainted all the Zulu shields, white, black or white/tan, along with various degrees of conversion work on some of the figures!!
The diorama base was made using mdf with profiled hardboard sides. The ground work was built up using expanded polystyrene and the rough shape was then covered in light weight filler and a coating of pva glue. The ground work was then painted with a matt acrylic sand colour. The base and sides was finished in a satin mahogany hard wearing paint.
Scenic items sourced from JG Miniatures and Woodland Scenics as well as the figures were attached with pva glue. Plastic sand/soil, buff ballast and small rocks were sprinkled over a coat of pva glue to cover the groundwork and figure bases.
I am quite pleased with the way it turned out in the end.
