As you know I am a big fan of the WBritain’s War along the Nile range and last year made a number of permanent dioramas using my figure collection. While I was making these I was starting to collect WB’s Zulu figures for a new project.

I ended up getting 50 figures (and a wagon) in all for my Zulu War diorama, mostly Britain’s and just two TG British casualties. I wanted to portray three different Zulu Regiments attacking against the dwindling numbers of the British 24[SUP]th[/SUP]Regt.

I repainted all the Zulu shields, white, black or white/tan, along with various degrees of conversion work on some of the figures!!

The diorama base was made using mdf with profiled hardboard sides. The ground work was built up using expanded polystyrene and the rough shape was then covered in light weight filler and a coating of pva glue. The ground work was then painted with a matt acrylic sand colour. The base and sides was finished in a satin mahogany hard wearing paint.

Scenic items sourced from JG Miniatures and Woodland Scenics as well as the figures were attached with pva glue. Plastic sand/soil, buff ballast and small rocks were sprinkled over a coat of pva glue to cover the groundwork and figure bases.

I am quite pleased with the way it turned out in the end.

Jeff

Jeff...
that is wicked cool...
I bet you are delighted with the results...
and proud to display that in your home...
a little piece of history come to life!

Well done Jeff! The dio board itself turned out great. You did an awesome job on the groundwork and your scene is perfectly laid out for the battle scene.

Thanks for all the pics with the varying angles and close ups.

Mark

Exceptionally well done Jeff. I really enjoyed viewing your photographs of your wonderful diorama. Absolutely outstanding . . .

The terrain board is impressive Jeff, so fits the scene. It is a wonderful tribute to the Zulu conflict. Robin.

The terrain is outstanding Jeff, as are the shield modifications. The story is well told with British casualties at the periphery as the pocket collapses. Really one of the best I've seen depicting the battle. Chris

Outstanding scene with the superb detail making it into a real diorama gem. Your presentation is one of the best seen on the forum. Well done. Regards Greg.

Thank you all for the supportive comments and likes.
Being inspired by the many talented members (who regularly post photos of their dioramas) on the forum has helped me to display my figure collection to its best.

All the best. :salute::

Thanks Steve and Steve! :salute::

It took a while planning where the figures ended up, but that was part of the fun!

Jeff,
I like the idea of repainting the shields to give the regiments more continuity. Great diorama and in my opinion Britain’s Zulu and War Along Nile are the best figures on the market for that time period. Great Job and thanks for sharing.

Many thanks Howard! :smile2:

After obtaining the Zulu figures from various sources (some new and others second hand) I found the shield patterns to be all over the place, so hence my decision to repaint.

I agree that Britain’s Zulu and War Along Nile figures make for a great collection, I've managed to collect over 250 of them! {eek3}

Jeff

this diorama is uttter shiite- the groud cover isnt historically accurate, the rifles are all wrong, the lighting is just atrocious (As are the camera angles) and it looks like you recycled a TV Tray from the local pub to use as the base. You are a 2 bit hack trying to post children's dioramas on a man's forum. Here's a virtual 10 spot to go take a class or two on how to put together a decent diorama instead of this rubbish that wouldnt muster a participation trophy from a 1st grade history teacher!!!

Look forward to chatting again soon- this time I will bring a bullhorn so you can hear me- my love to Yvonne and the kids.
