N.f.l. 2010 season (1 Viewer)

....To follow up the totally odd benching of McNabb last Sunday, the Skins just just let former Raider No 1 draft choice and nut case JaMarcus Russel work out for them. Now if there is a worse choice than Russel for a starting QB, I can't think of one.

Correction- John Ktina :D

GO COWBOYS!! :eek::eek:

Funny (ha-ha) you should ask Bill. When I heard the Russell story yesterday (what is this curious connection we have with the Raiders?), I put one cartridge in the cylinder, spun it, and snapped it shut. It lays on the table before me awaiting further developments. This year in, year out circus is starting to get on my nerves. -- Al

I just read and had to add this Washington journalist quip:

If you believe that Russell is seriously being considered as a candidate for the roster, then you are delusional; unless of course he is going to play left guard.

Now that's funny, well sorta.:D:confused::(:D

As someone once said, things are getting curiouser and curiouser. The Skins are going to have an interesting off week. The furor in this area over the McNabb benching and all the different stories that Shanahan has told about it guarantee that the papers and radio talk shows (including Riggo's cable show) are not going to let go of this. Another year, another coach, another distraction, same team. Perhaps renaming the team "The Dysfunctionals" will kill two birds with one stone. At least the PC groups will leave us alone. -- Al

How about "The Replacements"; maybe we could even get Falco to play QB.:D No doubt this has created a media frenzy that has even given Farve a break. I thought Cooley and Portis made some very classy and accurate remarks, squarely laying the blame on the pitiful blocking, for which Chris professionally took his share of the blame. The line was an iffy proposition from the start and its many flaws are really showing now.:(

Dallas just has got to get rid of Phillips right now- Everyone knows he's gone, lets just get it over with and salvage the rest of the year with training up the team to the new guys system.

They are just awful- I have been a fan since 1981 and this is just disrespectful. Jones outta line everyone up outside the stadium have them count off by 2's and fire the 2's. Heard rumors that they are kicking around the idea of former Ravens coach Brian Billick- would prefer Cowher but Billick would work.

Plus, the athletes need to get their head's out of their backsides. You get paid millions of dollars to play a sport- act like a professional and do your job.

I dunno- UFC 122 is coming up in a couple weeks- that's my new favorite sport anyway. Less drama and more heart.

No Skins today, but did get to watch the Ravens win. Also, the Browns beat the Patriots, whats up with that? Colt McCoy is doing a good job with the Browns. You just never know. -- Al

Yeah the Skins get a rest; lord knows they need it. I was looking at their mid season stats today and they are not very encouraging. About the only positive only thing they are leading the league in is field goals, which is a product of not scoring touchdowns. The sacks allowed figure is embarassing for a "hogs" team, as are the rushing stats. They have to face a rejuvenated Eagles team (who just beat the Colts) next week and it may not be pretty.

McCoy looked very impressive today. The kid may be their franchise QB. Of course it is way too early to tell but it looks pretty good so far.

I'm afraid you're right...however I don't think a promotion of Jason Garrett is the answer as most people do...his offense is stagnant...I would like to see John Gruden...or Cowher...

to get Cower...Jerry's gonna have to back off...I don't see that...

Breaking News...

Wade Phillips is fired...Jason Garrett is the new head coach...

he's no prize either...in my opinion...

he's been calling the offense for several years now...

Well, all I can say is it came way too late to save what was supposed to be a Super Bowl year. I guess you got to give Jones points for loyalty. -- Al

The ESPN scroll over the weekend kept saying that Jones had confirmed that Phillips would remain the coach until the season ended. LOL I guess the GB game was the last straw. Tough year in Texas with the Longhorns and Cowboys.

The Jone's interview included a lot of reasons why he was making this change now...nothing new really...I think public pressure is forcing the move...I have a lot of sympathy for Garrett...who wants to be head coach for John Kitna...

Agreed 100%- there was speculation he would be the head coach one of these days.

What a strange league the NFL is this year. In the pre-season, Dallas was expected to go to the Super Bowl, and nobody, myself included, thought the Giants had a shot at making the playoffs. The Colts were a shoe-in the win the AFC South, and the Saints would easily win the NFC South. The Vikings were expected to win the NFC North and play Dallas in the NFC Championship game. The Chargers would run away with the weak AFC West, with the Raiders and Chiefs lucky to win 4 games each. The 49ers would run away with the NFC West and some pundits put them in the Super Bowl. The Patriots would be way behind the Jets in the AFC East, who were Super Bowl bound, and probably trail Miami as well.

At the Halfway point of the season games played wise:

The Cowboys are 1-7, and already out of the playoff picture.

The 49ers are 2-6, and also pretty much done, even in the pathetically weak NFC west.

The Giants, who I thought would be lucky to be 8-8, considering their disastrous defensive showing last year, and the fact that they had to adjust to the system of a third defensive coordinator in 3 years, are tied for the best record in the NFL at 6-2.

The Vikings are in 3rd place in the NFC North at 3-5, and their playoff hopes are on life support.

The Colts are in 3rd place in the AFC South at 5-3.

The Chiefs are in 1st place in the the AFC West at 5-3. The Raiders are right behind them at 4-4. The Chargers are 3-5.

The Patriots are tied with the Jets at 6-2, each with a share of the best record in the NFL.

The Saints trail a Falcons team also with a share of the best record in the NFL, and are only a half game in front of Tampa Bay.

I guess that's why they play the games. My midseason playoff picks:

NFC East Champion: New York Giants
NFC North Champion: Green Bay Packers
NFC South Champion: Atlanta Falcons
NFC West Champions: Doesn't matter, they won't have a winning record, and will get knocked out in the wildcard round.

Wildcard Teams: Eagles, Saints

AFC East Champion: New England Patriots
AFC North Champion: Pittsburg Steelers
AFC South Champion: Tennessee Titans
AFC West Champion: Kansas City Chiefs (Norv Turner is toast if San Diego misses the playoffs)

Wildcard Teams: Jets, Ravens

By season's end we'll see if my analysis of a half season's performance gives me any more insight than the "experts" in the media had in the preseason.

This pretty much sums up why football is the best sport, literally every team has a shot to win the whole shooting match.

Can't remember the last time the Super Bowl was totally up for grabs halfway through the season; there are literally a dozen teams that could win it this year.

For what it's worth, my team, the Patriots, are 6-2 and they've done it with smoke and mirrors, looks like I was all wet with my 6-10 prediction.

I still think they are a year away from being serious contenders, they have one of the youngest teams in football.

Sorry Louis but my Ravens will take the AFC North crown this year, were healthier now then we have been in along time, Flacco is looking sharp, the defense with Reed back is getting better, wins against Steelers/Jets/Dolphins/and if we beat the Falcons Thursday nite we'll be in the drivers seat, looking forward to Pittsburgh coming to Baltimore on Dec 5th, I'm thinking that will be a for the AFC North, gonna be some great games coming up in the next few weeks...Sammy

My Ravens have a tough one tonite in Atlanta, 17-1 under Ryan there, hopefully my boys bring there A game on both sides of the ball and pull out a win...Sammy

I'll be pulling for your team tonight. If the Ravens win this one, I think they establish themselves as the favorite in the AFC.

My team has a classic trap game this week: the 1-7 Cowboys in their first game under their interim coach. If the Giants can win the next two games (the Cowboys and the Eagles) I think they establish themselves as the class of the NFC.

Maybe a 2000 rematch Superbowl in the works!!! I did enjoy that one:)...Sammy

Assuming (big leap) the Skins do not continue to flirt with inconsistency, I would like the Cowboys and Eagles to win.;)
