N.f.l. 2010 season (1 Viewer)

That was another turning point, and it was a good call, but not a bad play by the Jet special team player. If he didn't graze the ball, he missed it by millimeters. As he came free there, he had to go for the block. Pittsburg's punter was left footed, and the Jets player broke free from the right. The play was so close that if the punter was right-footed, we are praising that player for a block resulting in amazing field position for the Jets.
As Agent 86 would have said, "Missed it by 'this' much.":D -- Al

... I hope we have enough gas in the tank to bring it home.

You will- it will fall on Rogers to win and not sure he can do it.

The Jets looked really lethargic the first half- I credit that to the 9 minute drive by Pitt- anytime an o has to sit back and wait to get on the field, you run the risk of getting down a bit. It looked that way from the get go in the first half.

This game was won in 47 seconds- the time that elapsed between the last 2 Pittsburgh TDs. Bar none, Pittsburgh is the luckiest team in NFL History. Every monday am you hear the "if this play went that way, if this call went that way, etc." Give em their due, they won the game.

The Jets are a fantastic team in their own right. Sanchez is a fighter.

I have to agree with Louis' first post on the game and Doug's subsequent post. Defense didn't show up until it was too late, and then when they get a chance to stop Roethlisberger on 3rd and 6 at the end, they blow it. I know that if they get the ball back they score and I'm sure the Steelers knew that too.

Those calls at the one yard line were just terrible. I've had enough Schottenheimer.

Can't think about SB now but could be a good game.

At least I can now watch the SB without hoping both teams lose. I am a little uncomfortable rooting for Tom's Steelers as I am a Baltimore fan, but they are from the same conference so, GO STEELERS! I was a Terry Bradshaw fan while those Steelers were on their run, so there is some basis for the support. The truth is though, it was anyone but the Packers. The countdown begins... -- Al

LOL Chris, I seem to recall you said that before the Championship game and I suspect you will be just as accurate this time around.:p:D Every team in the league has one or more critical players that must perform to win the tough games and the Packers are no different. Rogers is certainly one of those and he is more that capable of rising to the occassion. But, as the Pack showed in the second half yesterday, they can step up when he faulters, as can the Steelers when Ben, as he too often does, has one of his down swings. Call me nuts if you like but no, I do not think he is elite.

As I noted before, this is probably one of the best SB matchups in years since both teams have the goods on offense and defense. Of course you never know until the game is over if it will work out the way the stats suggest it should. On simple probabilities, the Packers should win in a close one but if the probabilities were all that mattered, the bookies wouldn't layoff.;):D

Al, sorry to have to root against you mate but after March 29, 1984, Baltimore had no football team for me.

Just can't see the pack doing much against the Steeler defense, hate to say it but I think it will be cake for Pittsburgh...score predication 24-10 pittsburgh.

Care to give me those points with a wee wager Sammy; say the winner gets an FL figure?;)

Bill, in truth, I feel the same way. I support the Bravens only because of the name Baltimore. We got the team the same way Indy got our Colts and I have never really liked the way the Bravens came to Baltimore. With no Baltimore Colts to root for, my interest in football is much shallower and less emotional. I like the Skins (my primary rooting interest since '84) and the Bravens but it is not the same. Never will be.:( -- Al p.s. May Irsay Burn!

Green Bay is listed as an early 3 point favorite over Pittsburg in Dallas by the handicapping pros in Las Vegas...

there may good reason for them to be the favorite...

they have a great defense...as the Steelers do also...maybe better...

the Packers lost 6 games by a total of 20 points...

the Steelers lost 4 games by a total of 31 points...

I listed Fox Sports Networks strength of schedule for this year...
this is a pretty reputable source...
you can look up others if you want...but they should be similar...
they listed New York as having the toughest schedule this year...
Pittsburg having the weakest schedule of the top eight...

1) NY Jets (13-6).............31.2
2) Green Bay (13-6)........29.5
3) New England (14-3)...29.4
4) Chicago (12-6)...........29.4
5) Buffalo (4-12).............28.5
6) Miami (7-9)................28.2
7) Detroit (6-10).............28.0
8) Pittsburg (14-4).........27.9

Green Bay has been in every game this year to the end...4 points being the largest deficit in their losses...

on ESPN yesterday...one of the commentators said that the Green Bay defense has held opponents QB's to an overall average rating of under 69...that is with the second toughest schedule in the NFL...

they have a great defense...they are a favorite in Dallas...

I'm hardly saying Pittsburg is a "paper lion"...I'm just saying I'm surprised they are starting in Vegas as a 3 point underdog...

I wish Green Bay was getting 3 points...I would take them right as a dog with the points...

Michael,

Yup, I actually think this helps Pittsburgh. I would rather not be favorites here. BUT< I also think an injury is going to be huge for us - Pouncey. I am not sure he is going to be able to play and that is a killer for our already decimated O line.

This could be a great game, but you know, SB"s are funny. A lot of them are blowouts b/c one team comes out flat. SO I just hope that doesn't happen here.

We are lucky, but that is all part of being a proven winner, sometimes you make your own luck or it follows you.

Who knows, should be fun.

General Comment to the Big Ben question.

He is an elite QB for one reason, he wins. He has 2 rings, well on his way to the Hall. Call it management, etc. The guy has "it" and is clutch. He makes the plays when necessary.

Louis, back on the other SB, they made the plays. Santonio does NOT catch the ball if Ben doesn't throw it perfectly, sorry, just no argument there.

How many game winning drives has Big Ben managed?? It is a good many in his 7 year career, which 4 of those 7 he has been in the AFC Championship game and 3 now SB's

I know, trust me, he is just a part of a good football team, but he makes the plays and wins, that to me is an elite QB. He is certainly not the greatest ever, but he is going to have quite a memorable career.

I understand he has not endeared himself to the public with his actions and I don't like that either. I certainly hope he has grown up and fixed whatever character flaws he has.

All in all, on the football field, I wouldn't trade him.

Tom...

I think Pittsburg has the intangibles on their side...

maybe it's Ben, the defense, the coaching staff...

I don't know...

maybe it's just plain luck, heart or destiny...

not saying they don't belong here...they do...

but they just seem to win...

they remind me of the Celtics...

this game should be a defensive struggle...

no with my opinion stated...

it will probably be the highest scoring Superbowl ever...

69-68...:p

Elite or not, Big Ben is a winner. Every very team needs a QB who can get it done. Without the QB, there is not much chance a team can become very good. Obviously, a QB is only part of the chemistry, but without him? -- Al

Funny you say that, last time they met (last season), it was a shootout Pitt won, over 800 yards of offense............

Don't get me wrong- I think he certainly can, just not sure he can against Pitt. The Packers don't have many runs over 20+ yards this season- so it would seem to me that perhaps it's Starkes, stokes??? whatever their RB's name is that could really be the X Factor for the Pack this SB. Sort of like that one RB- Timmy Smith who had some kind of breakout SB for some NFC team that represents the nations capital- about 30 years ago when they actually last had a winning season :D:D

My point- they don't have a running game that can stretch the field and keep Pitt honest- they blitz heavily and this one is over. I am still taking Pitt by no more than 4.

Ben R as an elite QB- I can't see why anyone would argue otherwise. The guy is John Elway wrapped up in a moose's body. If there is ever a QB who has played well beyond his talent or expectation level- it's that meathead. Last night was the first night since Nov 2009 when he threw 2+ pics in a game.

That ain't Lombardi and Starr in Green Bay. I like Pittsburgh, Big Ben, and their playoff experience. -- Al
