N.f.l. 2010 season (1 Viewer)

Looks like it's going to be a long night. Oh well. When you can't run the ball, you're in trouble.

Well, they should have won the game but played miserably in the first half, totally flat (why I don't know) and that was the difference :( Tale of two different halves. Steelers were more intense in the first half and they switched roles in each half. Next year, different story.

Have to give the Jets credit. They kept playing until the end. Tough to do that on the road. The Steelers were lucky to have a left footed punter or they get one blocked. A play here or there....

Everybody killed the Pats last week for running a 8 minute plus drive and producing nothing. The same has to happen here. They came away with nothing and the Offensive Coordinator didn't seem with it; they're already calling for his head.

My opinion, Steelers blew the Jets out in the first 30 minutes, period. We were ready to play and that is the difference in this game.

Hats off to the Jets for making it a game in the second half.

Keys to second half:

1. Steelers Goal Line stand - that's defense. ALmost had 2 cept for a beautiful pick play by the Jets which resulted in a TD.

2. Steelers Offense and mainly Ben - 2 key aggressive throws/completions to end the game.

Brad, I know you are a JEts fan, but they should not have won that game. The better team won TONIGHT. Jets didn't put themselves in that hole, the Steelers defense did and the Offense scored also.

Tough win, should be a great Super Bowl, by the way, Sports Ill picked the opponents. The SB will all be about which team shows up. If we get to Aaron Rodgers, I like our chances.

It should be a great game.

Sammy - you would be better off to root for the team that beat you just like Ray Lewis and Ray Rice! (They were quoted here in Baltimore pulling for the Steelers)!!!

We are hopefully on the "Stairway to Seven".

And anyone who wants to say Big Ben is not an elite QB is NUTS. This guy wins football games.

HERE WE GO........... Sorry, I can't help celebrating especially after hearing Rex Ryan for the last 3 weeks. Look, he has proven he can put his team in the mix, but the "loud attitude" kills this particular fan.

About the only thing we can agree on is that the Steelers were ready to play and the Jets weren't. Why they weren't must be laid at the foot of the coaches. Maybe they spent too much energy beating the Pats. Who knows. But Rex has to take the hit on this one.

They didn't wake up until the end of the first half and then it was too late.

This was a beatable team, one they should have beaten by 10. But they didn't so that's all that matters. It's not how you win, just that you do. Steelers did, Jets didn't.

As far as you or anybody not liking Rex we don't really care. He's our guy and has gotten to the title game twice. Hopefully, next year it's a different story.

Bears were lucky to get as close as they did, what with a 3rd string Qb. Packers were lucky to win against a 3rd stringer. Not too impressive an effort by the offenses, but I did enjoy the defense. Beginning to like the AFC chances in the SB. -- Al
I must respectfully disagree a wee bit Al. The Packers offense was most impressive in the first period and for most of the second. That opening drive was an illustration of how good Rogers can be; featuring four 20+ yard strikes with no mistakes. As to winning against a third stringer, well he was more impressive and more productive than the first two and he completely changed the game dynamics and anticipated play style. If I were Cutler I would be hearing foot steps at this point and Collins was trying to give the game away. I am not sure that losing Cutler was a negative for the Bears, it just showed how they really got to the championship; on the shoulders of their very competitent defense. I think the SB might be one of the better ones in some time since it has two teams that can do it all when they are clicking and healthy. Now will they both do that in two weeks; only time will tell?;)

My chicago homeys are busy burning the jersey of da bears QB,,while my neighbors and others are proudly paying 200 to watch jerry jones televisions in the parking lot while standing,,Alles ist gerfunken mit der schports

Tom,

You're team won, period. But watching that game, you won because (1) the Jet's offensive coordinator called one of the worst first half's of football by any offiensive coordinator, all time, and also screwed up on your "goal line stand" in the 4th quarter by calling two stupid low percentage pass plays on 2nd and third and goal from the one yard line, and then having the wrong personnel in the game (Tomlinson, a finess back, instead of Green, a power back) on 4th and goal. The real key to the Jets' disastrously poor play on offense in the first half was two big third down dropped passes by Jericho Cotchery on the first drive and the third drive, both when he was wide open, and one of which (on the first drive) should have been a touchdown. Both passes hit him in the hands, in stride, and could not have been better thrown, but he flat out dropped both.

Another big key in the the third quarter was a dropped interception thrown by Big Ben (it would have been his third) which hit the Jets' safety right in the hands, went through his hands and his his facemask, and was then dropped. Had the Jet player made the pick (which a Pop Warner kid should have made), the Jets have the ball in Steelers territory down 24-10 with about 10 minutes left in the third quarter. After the drop, on the next play, the Jets defensed another pass (which, by the way involved a linebacker dropping another ball that hit him in his hands), but were called for one of those BS "defenseless receiver" calls for 15 yards, flipping field position, so when on the next play the Jets finally did pick Big Ben off yet again, they were pinned deep at their 12 yard line.

The Steelers did not win the game, the Jets lost it because they didn't execute in the first half on offense, and in key situations in the second half on defense. In the second half, the Jets made two picks, but dropped 3 other sure interceptions. In the first half the Jets dropped two balls that should have been caught on third down that killed drives. Either one of those balls get caught, it changes the whole first half momentum, espcially the one on the first drive deep in Steelers territory.

In the second half, the Steelers did nothing on either side of the ball, letting the Jets run off 19 unanswered, until they converted two third downs on the last drive to save the game. I blame the Jets offensive coordinator for the failure to score on 2nd and goal from the 1, I don't credit your defense. First of all, the stupid 2nd down play was called into the huddle late, so the Jets had to rush to the line and snap the ball with no time left on the play clock. Second of all, in four down territory, at the one yard line, you put in your power back and run the ball three straight times. If the other team stops you, then its a gola line stand. If you throw two low percentage passes and then run on 4th down with a finess back, its the offense's fault that they didn't score.

If your team plays like this against the Packers, they will get blown out.

It's not uncommon for teams to come out flat after a big game like the Jets had with the Pats. And winning three in a row on the road against the likes of Manning, Brady, and Big Ben is not going to happen 99 times out of 100. What surprised me though is that they hung in there and clearly outplayed the Steelers down the stretch. Big Ben did almost everything to give this one away. I think the Steelers relaxed when they went up 24-0 and couldn't get it going. The Steelers were beatable, but the Jets dug themselves just too big a hole. Sanchez's fumble just before the half for a TD was a killer. If that doesn't happen the Jets win.

Exactly my points. Each team played one good half, thus they were fortunate to be where they were when the final gun sounded. If the Packers had played well the entire game, the Bears are never in it. One less turnover, the Bears could have won. Both defenses played decently. Nobody overwhelmed anyone in the final analysis, so I just think it ended up being a toss-up with the Packers being fortunate to come out on top. And Happy Birthday:D -- Al

Louis, Respectfully disagree. We came ready to play and kicked the crap out of the Jets the first half. We got complacent, Jets turned up the heat as they are an excellent team, but as any good team does......get the stops or first downs when you need to. This game is a case of a great football game with ebbs and flows put forth by 2 very good football teams. If they play 10 times, not sure who wins most of them. (as is the case with all 4 Elite AFC teams - Pats, Jets, Ravens and Steelers, put any of the 4 in the mix and its a great game).

ALl I know is Ben is the guy you want to have control of the ball when it matters, the guy has won 2 SB's already and countless "big" games. He knows how to win games and I am very happy the Steelers attacked the jets with passing on the last drive, it worked. (We didn't execute any offense the rest of the half) Finally, goal line stands are a chess match, you normally lose them, but good defenses come up with them at times and that is what happened.

As for Green Bay, it will be a good game, Louis, all due respect, but I don't see us getting blown out. If you will recall, Green Bay sort of did what we did, they scored easily early on Chicago and then got complacent. If you will recall Charles All Everthing Woodson got burned by a 3rd string QB. That is why they play the game, anything can happen.

Brad, I think we probably agree on a lot of things. I think Rex is a good coach, always have, I just dislike the trash talk, but if that is what brings home W's, then that is his style. The Jets played 2 huge games, they may have just run out of gas, that happens.

Sammy, for AFC bragging rights, I root for whoever is in it (including if it would have been the Jets!).

Look, I am just happy to have made the Super Bowl considering the competition, I hope we have enough gas in the tank to bring it home.

I totally agree, Al. The real shocker is that Cutler either was hurt or gutless (I await the results of the MRI of his knee to pass judgment on that one) and that the Bears nearly came back with a third string quarterback. If the kid doesn't throw a pick-six to a 330 pound defensive lineman who unexpectedly dropped back into coverage on a zone blitz, the Bears tie the game at 14 all and we are looking at overtime.

If the Packers play that way against the Steelers, they will get blown out. Not a single one of the final four teams played like they wanted to go to the Superbowl.

I agree that the Packers played like crap for a half as well (I just posted exactly that while you were posting this post) but I have to disagree with you about Big Ben. He doesn't win playoff games, he manages them, and his terrific defense and running game wins them for him. He is like a bigger stronger Phil Simms (whose one great performance happened to be in the Superbowl). In his first Superbowl, he had the lowest quarterback rating of any winning quarterback in Superbowl history. In his second, if it wasn't for an amazing last second catch by Santonio Holmes and a 102 yard interception return by Harrison with no time left on the clock at the end of the first half, he loses by two scores against a Cardinals defense that couldn't stop a college team.

The way he played, if the Jets executed at all, the Steelers lose that game. He threw 2 interceptions, three more passes that should have been intercepted, no touchdowns, and threw for about 130 yards. None of the Pittsburg receivers had any bad drops. Sanchez, a second year quarterback, threw 2 touchdowns, no interceptions, and had two huge drops by Cochery.

Plus, in the first half, the Jets offensive coordinator kept running the same (totally unsuccessful) running play at the Steelers nose tackle on first down and second down, then making Sanchez throw the ball against the blitz on third and long. Twice in 5 drives Sanchez threw perfect passes that were dropped on that third and long. The three other times he was sacked, once brutally for a fumble recovered for a touchdown. This hung the Jets defense out to dry - they were on the field for 21 minutes in the first half. Towards the end of the half the Jets defense was so exhausted they were missing just about every tackle, giving up around 100 yards rushing in the Steelers last 3 drives. If the Jets offensive coordinator and Jericho Cotchery don't totally screw up the first half, the Steelers do not win this game the way Roethlisberger played.

My opinion on the Steeler-Jet game turning point was the roughing the kicker penalty on the Jets in the 3rd quarter. As I see it, the Jets had the momentum, had held the Steelers, and would have gotten the ball in good position. A Jet score off that drive and it's a whole new ballgame. That penalty (a good call) allowed the Steelers to keep the ball, killing time and dulling the momentum for the Jets. The Jets were then forced to make up too much ground in the 4th quarter. That penalty simply changed the game. -- Al

That was another turning point, and it was a good call, but not a bad play by the Jet special team player. If he didn't graze the ball, he missed it by millimeters. As he came free there, he had to go for the block. Pittsburg's punter was left footed, and the Jets player broke free from the right. The play was so close that if the punter was right-footed, we are praising that player for a block resulting in amazing field position for the Jets.

Another opinion/question on the Jets loss. As Louis has pointed out, what was up with that series of calls when the Jets had 1st and goal. Watched the 2nd,3rd, and 4th down calls while screaming "you dumb *******'s" at the screen. My son and I couldn't believe the stupid offensive calls. The calls were probably the OC's clever belief that the passes would surely catch the Steelers by surprise. With a QB like Sanchez, what would have been wrong with at least one attempt at a mis-direction with Sanchez running it in? I'm no real fan of either team, but I hate stupid football. -- Al
