I don't follow the Redskins that closely, but if I am not mistaken, didn't the Redskins resign McNabb to a huge contract AFTER wooden teeth came in as the coach; if in fact he doesn't like McNabb or feel he can run his system, shouldn't he have said so to the owner, ie, this guy is not working for the system I want to put in place.

Again, I could be wrong, but I thought that was the case.

The Redskins, plain and simple, are a train wreck of a franchise.

Well I would say we have had our owner issues, like the Cowboys and Raiders, to name a few. The problem is simply undue reliance on the free agency solution to team building and more particularly going for the older stars without addressing the core needs with younger players. No team has done well with that and certainly the glory days Skins did not succeed that way. Sadly, we have some good players but they are being wasted. They had the 8th toughest schedule this year, which is odd to me given their results from last year, so that has been a factor, as has the injuries I noted. I wouldn't say they are a train wreck but they need some serious rebuilding, which one cannot do in a year, no matter who is coaching.

As to McNabb, he was hired before Shanahan so some attempt to work with the guy is understandable and certainly historically he showed the potential. At this point, it is just worth a shot to me to see what else might work or how much of the problem was really the QB. Again, at this point, losses are better than wins for the next season and that is all that we can look to gvein where the team is now.

What I don't understand is how he can rule out a guy playing for the rest of the season. Why not just cut him?

How would that help? Aside from contract issues, just who would they bring in for number 3 and why bother?

He did sign a huge contract, but very little of it is guaranteed so if they cut him they won't be losing that much.

I'm not saying it would help. They are beyond that point. Just what's the difference between cutting a guy and telling him he isn't playing anymore? Maybe they expect him to sell peanuts.

Well not to put to fine a point on it but I think they said he wasn't starting; most teams have two backups so he is just in a different slot than he was.

John Beck has been named the backup. It's hard to envision a third-string McNabb ever playing another down as a Redskin. He is toast. Regardless of who is right or wrong here, this situation is now like a cancer on that team. Better to cut him and be done with it than to let it linger for no good reason.

Sorry George; those facts are not in dispute and your loyalty to your team but I would still be a Colts fan if not for the midnight betrayal and thus I am a Skins fan for as long as it takes; which may be a long time.

Here, here! Same boat. I curse Irsay on a regular basis. Baltimore Colts were #1 until the Mayflower vans hit the road and the Skins the back-plan. Then Skins went to top of the list and have so remained. I like the Ravens but they are currently my #2. I sure hope the Skins can get their act together as I kinda enjoyed those SB wins. -- Al

It doesn't give me ulcers George; it just is what it is. As long as the Skins stay in DC, I shall celebrate and wear the maroon and gold. The team was a joy to watch when I was a kid and more than welcome haven from the departing Colts. They have given me many great teams and players to watch, including Little Joe, the Diesel, the Ageless Wonder, the Fun Bunch, the Posse and the Hogs and that SB blowout against Denver was a thrill I shall carry into to the beyond. We all make our choices and I am quite content with this one, whether or not they ever win another playoff game. Besides, the Patriots are actually in Massachusetts and one could say Massachusetts and New Hampshire are not always considered to be much of a part of the same thing.

Once the Patriots moved out of Boston and out to Foxboro, they changed the name of the team to the New England Patriots to give them more regional appeal.

At one point prior to building the new stadium, the owner Mr Kraft had a deal in place to move the team to Connecticut, but that never happened, so they stayed in Foxboro. If they had moved, woudn't have mattered a lick to me as I am not a season ticket holder, they still would have been on local tv as the NFL feed for this area.

When I was a kid, they rammed the Giants down our throats as AFL games were not broadcast on tv. And the Giants stunk back then, so we had to watch a crappy team every week get their brains beat out with Tarkenton running for his life.

This explains why there are Giants fans up here, like my good friend Vezzolf for example...........
