N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (4 Viewers)

Should be a great SB, with a good running game instead of the dink & doink passing games that have been so prevalent for years. Good luck to the fans of both teams and especially to Jason of SF/Texas. -- Al

Al/Mike:

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

I think, at the very least, it will be a great game with contrasting styles.

In terms of total defense, per the NFL, SF ranked first and KC was 8th, notwithstanding the number of points allowed.

Yeah, this is about the fifth time I've seen this.

What knee slapper.

he television ratings were WAY down for the championship games this year. People love to hate on the Patriots, but that hate draws ratings.

Brad...

thank you...
that's both informative and makes sense...
I didn't do any in depth analysis when I made the comment about points allowed...
but after watching the 49ers a few times this year...
with Bosa, Armstead, Buckner and Sherman...
it just seemed like they had the better defense than KC...

I also would not have thought KC's total defense was ranked 8th...

and if I was asked...
I would have guessed NE had the best overall defense this year...

Mike, on the other hand, what’s matter is points scored or given up. It’s not how many yards you gain or give up but the amount of points that actually show up on the scoreboard. Regardless of all that, it’s going to be a really close game.

Yeah, sometimes I forget how deadly serious you folks take pro football. It’s almost like y’all think it really, really matters. Like, a lot a lot.

In the immortal words of Sgt Hulka: Lighten up, Frances.

Pretty sure you fellas south of the Mason Dixon line take football a lot more seriously than us Yankees do.

Didn't some wingnut Alabama fan poison a tree in Auburn over losing a football game?

I mean going nuts and smashing things after a loss is one thing, but bumping off a tree...……………………..

The 49ers are going to need to get pressure up the middle on Mahomes and set the edge on him, don't let him get outside, much like Jackson on the Ravens.

Garappolo has to manage the game, no boneheaded INT's, no stupid sacks, just run the ball down the Chiefs throats and play keepaway from Mahomes.

Kelce and Hill will murder you if you let them.

This is the dream match up the NFL wanted, probably the two best teams in the NFL this year, both peaking at the right time.

Should be a great game...............that said, watch the Chiefs win 102-0 and everyone will bail by halftime.

Here is a headline that is a perfect example of how the Super Bowl is over-covered and over-dissected:

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (illness) won't practice Thursday

He has a cold. The game is in 12 days. Enough said.

My son showed me a story where NFL “insiders” are predicting a KC blowout. I don’t see how that’s possible. My son’s reaction was the same as some others: continue to take us lightly. We’ll show you like we’ve shown you all year.

Brad...
where are you living now?
I thought you were a Jet's fan...

Could be because of how the last super bowl ended in which Shanahan played a significant role.

College football in the state of Alabama is its own thing. Religion would be too mild a word. Funny thing is there are lots of "divided" households in Alabama, ala, where family members went to both Auburn and Alabama. They make it work.

It is true Southerners take college football seriously. But that makes more sense to me. Many of the kids come from the local area, and/or made the decision that school was a good fit for them. Pro football players get virtually no choice in the matter, as they are drafted. Thus every team is a menagerie of guys from all over with only one uniting theme - $$$$s.

That’s an experience you learn from. When the Packers started to come back a little bit, he was worried that the same thing might happen again but I didn’t see that it could.

He didn't visit China recently did he; if so...………………..ruh roh…...

My advice is not to be so sensitive and just enjoy the process; the 49ers have been horrible in recent years, they have had a very good rebuild and trips to the Super Bowl don't grow on trees, so just enjoy it.

Someone has to be favored in the game; the Chiefs are absolutely loaded on the offensive side of the ball. If it's a shoot out, I can't see the 49ers hanging with the Chiefs, not to mention Garappolo is prone to boneheaded INT's or taking sacks at the worst possible time.

He is not going to be able to march the 49ers up and down the field like Mahomes and his quick strike offense. The 49ers are no slouches either with Kittle and Sanders.

If the 49ers can contain Mahomes, put pressure on him and force a turnover or two, it will be a close game. If not...………………….let me know how it turns out, I've already got plans that afternoon/night.

I have about as much interest in this game as I did in the Broncos/Panthers and Ravens/49er super bowls...…….ie, I really don't care...………………….when your team is in it practically every year, it's amazing how detached you get when they are not in it.

It isn't pretty and no one likes talking about it but this game is going to probably be won and lost in the trenches.

If the Niners O-Line can run block like they have all season then SF has a great chance to win the game.

If the Chiefs O-Line can pass block like they have all season then KC has a great chance to win the game.

That's it in a nutshell...………...spot on.
