N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (1 Viewer)

My son showed me a story where NFL “insiders” are predicting a KC blowout. I don’t see how that’s possible. My son’s reaction was the same as some others: continue to take us lightly. We’ll show you like we’ve shown you all year.

Another thing to consider is everyone is crowning Mahomes as the next big thing, something about the Chiefs are going to dominate the AFC now for the next ten years.

Right sure; they beat the #5 seed Texans after trailing 24-0 and the #6 Titans after trailing 10-0, talk about an easy path to the Super Bowl and they still almost blew it.

Good luck paying Mahomes as his rookie deal is up next year AND keeping talent around him.

You can't do both...………………….

I have to admit, even as. huge Niner fan, I really don’t like Kittle and his antics.

Then during media night coverage on the NFL Network Steve Mariucci pointed out that each year he asks for volunteers to work at his quarterback camp for special needs kids and one of the first guys to volunteer every year is Kittle.

Maybe I shouldn’t judge him without knowing more about him.

Great point; just because he acts like a total horses *** on the field does not necessarily mean he is one off of it.

I have admit I know I am getting old as everytime a player has an epileptic seizure each time he makes a first down, a tackle or a catch, it goes up my *** sideways, maybe younger people feel it's cool/hip/awesome/wonderful.

I don't.

I don't.

I have been saying that for years...
I can't stand these showboats...
act like you've been there before...
hand the ball to the referee...
then get back in the huddle...

heck...if these guys spent as much time studying the films and playbooks...
as they do choreographing handshakes and celebrations...
they would probably be way better players...

I don't mind a genuine spontaneous solo celebration so much...
I mean you make a one handed catch...
break 2 tackles...
and then run over a guy on the goal line to score...
I get excited about it too sitting in my lazy boy...

but when a guy makes an effort to gather a bunch of players to do a group bob sled skit...
or that bowling pin routine that seems so popular...
that's just too much for me...

even when the Cowboys do it I hate it...
Michael Irvin was the worst...
every first down he got...
down on his knees he went and pointed to the goal line...
and Zeke is every bit as bad as him...
that imaginary spoon he keeps shoveling meaning "feed me"...
that got old really quick...
REALLY QUICK...

I have mixed feelings on this regarding the showboating. As a kid I grew up on "Showtime Lakers" with Magic and Kareem. They were the original showboats but they did it in a classy way IMO. Next came Shaq and Kobe (hard to type that name right now, tragic especially his daughter, both taken too soon). I always thought the NBA allowed a little hot doggin and it played well.

As to the NFL, I got tired of the ticky tack Unsportsman calls and they got rid of that thank goodness. That said, why on every first down do we see something, that does get old. Maybe if fires them up, keeps momentum, etc, I don't know but it is overdone. That said, honestly, Ju Ju from the Steelers first year in the league, he came up with some unique TD celebrations that did get me to laugh, so I guess not all of it is so bad. I don't like the ones that are classless and they don't bear mention here. I do enjoy the Linemen doing the Stone Cold Beer Slam when they jump in the crowds, that is kind of funny or TO's infamous taking the pen out and signing the Football and tossing it in the stands, that cracked me up too.

I guess i am 50/50 on these.

"

Yes it does.

How about on every completed catch too while we're at it.

All of it is getting old.

And the Lakers of the 80's were not a bunch of hot dogs, they brought excitement and a new, unique brand of basketball to the NBA, a league that was dying up until that time.

Magic was the greatest NBA showman of all time, a mega talent as well, impossible to root against, totally likeable.

Bird is my favorite all time player, Magic is #1A, love that guy.

His relationship with Bird is something special, mutual respect, they both came into the league together and made it what it is today.

Tom...

I wasn't really referring to the Laker's "Showtime" style of running the court end to end without dribbling the ball as annoying...
that was electric for it's time......

not even referring to the "no look" passes...
or the bounces off the back board or lobs to teammates for dunks...
or the fast pace game associated with that style of offense...

the "Showtime era" was exciting for all NBA fans...
it was new and innovative...

I was really talking about these excessive celebrations after a good play...

could you imagine Magic...Kareem...Worthy...Cooper and Scott doing a choreographed skit after a score...
Pat Riley just shaking his head in disbelief as they got on the sideline and did a home run skit...

I really didn't even mind Dkembe Matumbo's "Not in My House" finger wag when he slapped the ball into the stands...
it was quick, spontaneous and a solo trademark...not excessive and didn't involve a group effort...

all I'm saying is that the excessive celebrations and the group celebrations really turn me off...

I more respect/admire the Barry Sander's style of TD's...where he hands the ball to the referee and moves on...

To Mike’s point last night the NFL Network showed reruns of A Football Life. 2 of the episodes showcased Jerry Rice and Barry Sanders. I noticed that both of them simply handed the ball to the ref whenever they scored. On one touchdown Sanders scored and patiently waited for the ref to finish the touchdown signal. No flip in his direction, he I literally waited for the ref to be ready to take the ball from him.

The one celebration I never minded was when a running back handed the ball to an offensive lineman so he could spike it. Emmitt Smith did that a lot, another true class act and one of my all-time favorite (non 49er) players.

Jason...

yes...
Emmitt and Rice...both passionate players...
but class acts on being in the spotlight...

I'm not trying to be the NoFunLeague...
group celebrations are just my pet peeve...
they just seem high schoolish to me...

and now to move on...
really looking forward to the game Sunday...
should be entertaining...
hopefully competitive...
kind of leaning to SF...
would like to see some pressure on Mahomes...
but would also like to see Reid get one...
should be a good watch...

I don't have a stake in this one but Reid seems like a decent guy who is deserving of a championship. The Chiefs defense is underrated. I think they can stop the Niners running game and make them pass. And that means trouble for SF. KC will score some points.

El predicto:

KC 31
SF 23

Best of luck to Jason and Brad and his son regarding the game on Sunday.

Can't wait for the Boston press and their reaction to the game;

"Garappolo wins a Super Bowl; Patriots made a HUGE mistake in trading him"

OR

"Chefs win, Mahomes and Chiefs are now the top dogs in the AFC, the dynasty is over"

Be sure and let me know how it turns out, my sock drawer isn't going to rearrange itself, so I have other plans.

George:

Thanks!

Also, if the Niners lose please do not forget the Brady to Soon Sign with SF headlines.

Haven't you heard, he's heading to Tennessee, that's the rumor up here.

Adios Tom, best of luck to you.

Time to turn the QB page here in New England.

If they go back to sucking, will everyone leave us alone now or is that Patriots hate a generational thing, asking for a friend.

So yesterday my girlfriend says to me "My friend Michelle is having a Super Bowl party, do you feel like going, I want to go"...………...I said; "Seriously, the last time you watched a Super Bowl was Patriots/Giants"...……………...then the lightbulb went off...………...Madonna performed at halftime of that game, today 97 year old J Lo and some broad named Shashona/Shashana/Shahooza is performing...……………….ok, I get it...…………

Whatever, I'll go...…….the sock drawer can wait.

Let's have a good game with no chickenshit/horseshit call affecting the outcome...…...unless it goes against the Chefs.

I saw there is a **** ton of 49er fans there, hardly any Chefs fans, which is understandable.

Those Chefs fans will be there soon, it takes a long time to travel from KC to FL by covered wagon...………………….

Whenever your girlfriend/wife/partner, etc. says she wants to go somewhere, you’re goin!

My son is ready for the game.
