N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (1 Viewer)

I think 49er fans are getting a nibble of the pain Falcons (and UGA fans) have endured in the last few years, where a seeming championship victory is, right at the very end, unprobably wrested from your grasp.

The 49er reversal wasn’t as extreme as the Falcons/Dawgs, but surely bites just the same.

A lot of talk about Tom Brady's future. Mostly by Brady, but if he leaves NE then TN would be a nice fit. He wants to go somewhere where he has a title shot in the next two years but there is no entrenched starting QB. That narrows the possibilities down considerably. TN is not likely his preferred destination though. The Chargers are another possibility. Rivers is done there. They have a playoff caliber team if they get their act together. LA is a big sports celebrity stage. Playing in the new multi-billion dollar stadium. Probably his wife's preference. That seems like the best fit. The Raiders are also in that hunt. I'm still thinking the odds are about 70-30 that he comes back to the Pats though.

End of day, I believe the 2 best teams played, 9ers D did what they were supposed to do, make Mahomes look bad. In the end, he did what he had to do, look great at the right time.

Ravens - nah, not ready for the big game and that is what happened against a decent TN team. Outcoached, outplayed period, The best team is the one who makes it to the game and wins, Chiefs did it.

Championships more often than not are a combination of luck and talent.

Let's take the Chefs for example; had it not been for that ****show of a performance by Bogers and his crew in the game vs the Patriots, the Chefs end up as the #3 seed and would have faced the Titans at home in the first round...………..I think they lose that game.

Let's forget that for a moment and move on to scenario #2; they were down 24-0 to the Texans until Bill O'Brien pissed down his leg and blew that game, how on Gods earth do you lose when up 24-0?

Scenario #3; as Doug pointed out, the Ravens crapped themselves and had they not, instead of hosting the Titans at home in the AFCCG, a team that was on fumes at that point, they would have had to travel to Baltimore to play the Ravens, the team that all season long was the class of the AFC.

So instead of that, they got the #4 seed Texans and the #6 seed Titans on the road to a Super Bowl.

Then they were down 20-10 until the 49ers imploded...……………...outscored 21-0 in the last 6:30 of the Super Bowl, don't think I've ever seen anything like that in a Super Bowl.

Someone needs to hand Andy Reid a cheeseburger and tell him the actually won that game, he had this look of *** am I doing here in Miami for most of the game.

And I love the assumption that the Chiefs and 49er's will be around for a long time; football like no other sport chews up and spits out Super Bowl winners/losers with regularity, there is no guarantee of anything, when you get this close, you need to finish the job.

People can say whatever they want, but to me, Shanahan blew this game plain and simple.

He hid Garappolo all post season long, then in the 4th quarter up 10, he hands the keys to the store to him and expects him to take it home.

To me, the end of the first half was eye opening, after the third down stop, there was about 1:38 on the clock, yet with 3 time outs in his back pocket, Shanahan did not use one, then he hands the ball off twice, then on third down, he lets it rip downfield and they should have gotten at least a FG there as sorry, that was a BS ticky tack OPI on Kittle. So you don't trust your QB at the end of the half in the two minute drill, but you trust him with up 10? Made zero sense.

And speaking of which, I thought at one point Kittle was hurt as they completely stopped going to him, not to mention he was wide open in the middle of the field a couple of times, also Sanders was wide open on a wheel route and Garappolo flat out did not see him, that might have been a walk in TD.

Will be interesting to see what the 49ers do in the off season, they can get out from underneath Garappolo for short money...………..will Lynch push all his chips into the center of the table and go after Brady, 2 years/60 million?

I know one thing; down 4 with 2:39 left and all three time outs, Brady would have taken the 49ers down the field for the game winning TD...…………...

One thing the NFL does right us put on a good show. I turned on the tv at 6 and saw the spots about people who influenced the players, the video of the kids in the various cities and then the kids themselves, and the introduction of the NFL top 100. Those were just tremendous features. For pure pageantry alone, no one comes close to the NFL. SB Sunday is equivalent to a national holiday.

All,

Landed in Vegas yesterday and caught the tail end of the game. You can imagine it was a thriller her in Vegas and the amount of celebration was unbelievable. Our UBER driver this morning bet a G on the game and won.

Additional problems for teams that have a successful season are that their assistant coaches get offers to move on to other opportunities, young players want lots more money, and guys heading to free agency can be retained only with long term deals. For reasons that defy explanation most teams won't part with a key player like a QB even though they might recognize his limitations. The Rams signed Goff to a long term $150 million after they went to the SB last year. A big mistake. He is a decent QB but there are plenty of QBs in the market and coming out of college who can play at his level for half the cost. They could have dealt him for a top draft pick or two including a QB. But no GM has the guts to do that. The Niners will do the same with Jimmy G. They will retain him recognizing his obvious limitations. Then there are so many intangibles in football like injuries, salary caps and luck. Hard to build a consistent winner. Look at how long it took KC to find a path. They lost last year because an idiot lined up offsides. That was the difference in the AFC championship game.

Actually, the Ravens have won 2 SB's in the given time period and thus join the Steelers and Giants at the 2-win mark in the last 20 years. -- Al

Garoppolo is in the midst of a big contract he signed before the 2018 contract. 49ers do have a few significant free agents: Sanders, Jimmy Ward and Arik Armstead. They would like to add a contract extension to Kittle and lock up Buckner but if they do, that may prevent them from making moves in other areas.

Reading that Brady has sold his palace. Sounds like he is gone. Maybe to Nashville. If so, I guess he will be taking one of those covered wagons to the game.

It doesn't matter, about 48 hours out from their first Super Bowl win in 50 years, Chiefs players are already declaring themselves the new NFL dynasty...……………..maybe they'll move up the charts as the most hated franchise now...……………………..

George,

I thought Cleveland was the most hated? Wait, isn't it Oakland...I mean Los Angeles...no, no Las Vegas Raiders?

KC a dynasty? No, that would be your Pats and who comes to mind next is the Steelers, then the Packers, then Dallas. I'm I right? We can't forget the Buffalo Bills dynasty of 4 Super Bowl trips and no wins.

Now that the dust has settled on the Super Bowl, I wanted to give a quick thanks to Al, Brad, George, Mike etc. for all of their support while the Niners made their run at a championship.

I appreciate the support, I appreciate this thread but most of all I appreciate the friends I have made on this forum.

Jason...you will enjoy that group for many years...they will be back in the playoffs next year...

Interesting QB carousel in the works. Sounds like Rivers may go to the Colts. I think Prescott stays put in Dallas and Tannehill stays in TN. If Brady leaves, the Chargers are the perfect place for him. They have a QB vacancy and can be a playoff caliber team. Big celebrity status out in LA would satisfy his enormous ego. Some talk of Cam Newton going to the Pats if Brady leaves. Big Belly Ben is apparently getting even bigger and the Steelers are praying he retires ridding themselves of his even more enormous contract through the next couple of seasons. That would put them in the market for another QB. I could see Newton or Bridgewater landing there.

The NFL is changing the playoff format this year; 7 teams get in in each conference, ONE bye vs two, so in that scenario, this past year, the Chefs as the #2 seed would have played the Steelers as the #7 seed.

The 8-8 Steelers.

So the playoffs will be watered down even more now.

Watch; this year, a #7 seed with a losing record will land assbackwards into a the Super Bowl.

Also, a 17 game season with 3 preseason games is on the table too.

Another boneheaded idea...……………….what a pack of morons who run this broken toilet of a league.

Seriously, where do you get your news? The Steelers are not praying on anything and they are counting on Big Ben, that is Hall of Fame Bound Ben to you to finish his career. Another fact, his contract payments have been deferred for at least 5 years in order to help the team in the last 5, so get the facts straight, he is due every penny on that contract and the Steelers (A Class Act Franchise) are happy to pay it.

You can throw as much mud as you like, but please remind me how many times the Rams have won anything that mattered?? Inquiring minds want to know.

I would be happy to remind you at any given time your memory fails you of the collosal collapses they have had over the years? Can also remind you of how the NFL cheated the Saints to even get the Rams to their most recent Super Bowl. And guess what, much how you like to mock conspiracy theories, that is NOT one of them, it is a tried and true fact~! Since you like to remind everyone at any given moment of the Patriot's transgressions, I would argue that the NFL referees coordinated the largest cheating scandal of recent history with a blatant FUBAR call that put the Rams in the SB. Nuff said. EXCEPT, Yeah, they lost that one too!

Back to Brady, he may or may not leave New England, the Sun will rise in the East tomorrow and life will move on. My opinion, if he goes to the Chargers, terrible move, they have and always will be a runner up, not even Tom Brady can help that franchise.
