N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (6 Viewers)

The PAC 12 just announced a conference-only schedule cancelling all their non-conference games. There goes the chance for my SC Trojans to put a beatdown on Bama! LOL. I wonder what they are going to do in the NFL and NCAA when a team finds out that a number of players and/or coaches are infected with the virus on a game week. Are they going to cancel those games?

They'll quarantine those players/coaches and play the game in all probability.

I highly doubt there will be college or pro football this year, I just can't see it happening.

I'm torn. I would like to see some football but perhaps that is selfish. Maybe put faith in the greedy owners who will do just about anything to make a buck including using the talented ladies from the unfortunately defunct Lingerie Football League to play if the NFL players stand down.

Considering that football is a contact sport as is hockey and basketball, and considering the state of the virus in this country, I have a hard time seeing how these sports will return. In Europe where they have taken steps to control the virus, soccer has been able to return successfully in Germany, England and Spain, and even without the crowds I have enjoyed the matches.

Baseball is less of a contact sports so they have a better possibility of returning although that still remains a great unknown. In addition, if it does return, many players, after they fulfill service time, then plan to opt out of the remainder of the season, which they have the contractual right to do. If that is the case, they should probably just cancel the season.

Sounds like the Redskins are caving to the pressure as expected. Can't wait to hear the PC approved name change. There must be a very short list of options. My USC Trojans just removed a cinema exhibit for John Wayne.

Washington Wokes gets my vote.

"Deadskins" gets my vote although Kevin Durant's "Red Wolves" isn't bad. The proposed uniforms were kick arse. I'm constantly surprise at how much better online folks can design uniforms than the so called experts.

Yawn. Maybe the nfl train can fall off a cliff and take stooge Goodell with it. Done and don’t care. I plan on rewatching steeler super bowl dvds as well as the pirates World Series and the penguins Stanley cup runs each week instead when sports were actually sports. You can take the current nfl and bag it permanently.
Over and out for good.

That Pirates team of 1979 is in my top 5 favorite non Boston sports teams along with the 1972-1974 and 1988-1990 A's (love those uniforms and the white cleats), the SF Giants teams that won the WS every other year for a few years, the GS Warriors of recent years that dominated the NBA outside of that miracle Cleveland win a few years ago and the Packers of the late 1960's.....................

I liked old Willie Stargell. Only in baseball could a guy in his robust shape be considered a great athlete. Went to a Pirates game a few years ago. The place was half empty. Didn't recognize a single player on the team. The fans were mostly wearing jerseys from players from the 60s and 70s. Pretty depressing. Like visiting NASA and seeing only displays on Neil Armstrong. At least they won't have any trouble social distancing if the season ever starts. Plenty of space in the stands.

Honored back in the day at the old Veterans Stadium, with a black and gold star painted where his home run struck an archway in the upper deck, as it was still gaining altitude. Longest home run ever, at that park.

Prost!

Outside of the Bay Area and Texas teams I have always liked:

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals during the Ozzie Smith era, he remains to this day the best defensive shortstop, if not player, to ever play MLB;

NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins as they were once owned by the DeBartolos who also owned the Niners during their Super Bowl days, not to mention, the real Great One, Mario Lemieux played for them;

NFL: New England Patriots mostly due to Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Brady is a Bay Area guy and humble as can be. Despite his rough exterior Belichick does a ton for charity, including some of the same ones I support;

By recent posts, we can all find plenty of historical games across all sports that easily replace the upcoming garbage detail the NFL plans on presenting. In all seriousness, I would love to see them fall on their face. I believe an overhaul is needed and they need to return to business enterprises that's mission statement is to put on a competitive entertaining product, not another Cable News Opinion ****eshow. Do that and they would re cement their place in society. Going to or watching a ballgame is meant to be entertaining, not a current affairs study.

I can generally watch sports as an escape from all that nonsense. The NBA, however, is apparently going to allow players to wear jerseys with various "social justice" slogans. But just the ones they approve. For example, the players are not apparently allowed to criticize China or support Hong Kong. Why? Because China is a big NBA market. So much for social justice.

Exactly. Unfortunately, there are many people today who have the totalitarian idea that there is no area of life that is exempt from being politicized.

Sounds like the team formerly known as the Redskins may be in more trouble. Per Fox News, the Wash Post intends to do a number on old Danny and company. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy! LOL. Latest name rumor is that they might change their name to the "Red Tails" in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen. That's not bad which means Danny Boy had nothing to do with it. And it is also appropriate given the butt kickings they often receive on the field.

The more I read the more I doubt the NFL will start and/or finish a season this year.

As of 2019 56% of NFL players were classified as obese. A May 2020 study showed that 62% of COVID-19 patients who were obese died from the virus. Another showed that 99.9% Of the obese diagnosed with Corona developed pneumonia which led to long term complications.

So far no athlete who has been diagnosed has suffered any hospitalization or death. I fear the NFL could change that.

Poor Danny. He apparently couldn't find even a single PC-acceptable name for his team. Or at least not one he was willing to pay for. So its the Washington "Football Team." We are truly living in the age of Idiocracy. A wildly prophetic and underrated movie.

Doug,
I think I will remember 2020 as a whole as the "year the idiots finally ran the asylum" on all fronts. I am just downright disgusted, pissed and frustrated all at once. Hence the reason I have focused on long forgotten tasks, hobbies, cleaning up and selling out!

Yes, I view it as a standoff between morons and the greedy numbskull owners like Dan Snyder. A stalemate of imbeciles in which there are no winners. Only spectators. I won't allow them to influence my decisions, however. I will watch the NFL for the game and ignore the meaningless noise. I doubt most Americans are choosing between watching a football game and reading the collected works of Chaucer. So play on Washington "football team."
