N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (2 Viewers)

Tom,
I watched the replay of the game today on the NFL Network.

On the game winning drive, the Patriots were in their 22 personnel (FB, RB, 2 TE's, 1 WR), so the Rams had four linebackers on the field and played single high safety, then the Patriots spread out the formation and threw to Gronk, then to Burkhead, then Edelman twice, then Gronk down the seam.

The Rams were screwed; if they substituted CB's for LB's and the Patriots ran the ball, you've got two big TE's and a FB blocking CB's, a total mismatch.

Genius on the OC's part...………….that's two games in a row the Patriots outcoached the other team on both sides of the ball.

Unreal.

George, you are a true fan to watch it again so soon!!!!! just kidding, I thought it was a brilliantly coached game, I give the Rams D credit for most of the game, but yes I agree, that drive was just a total killer for the Rams, I just think the only way to beat the Pats is man to man and then double Edelman. The only issue there is you need a consistent pass rush b/c anytime Tom Brady has time, forget it, he is still that good.

The other point that was made is where the hell was the Rams line who blocked for Gurley all year, they didn't block a whiff of air last night! And I am sorry, but that part I can laugh heartily about, I think "Andrew WorseWorth" is about a big of dud as you can get, couldn't have happen to a nicer piece of trash. That part is a hats off to the Pats for taking out the garbage! And I don't apologize for that comment at all, he is and always will be a low class piece of garbage who has and always will be overpaid. Kind of an insult that idiot is a millionaire.

Only a masochist could watch that entire game again. Even if the Rams had won, I couldn't do it. Funny to hear all the sports commentators going on and on about Gurley not playing. It seems pretty clear that he was injured and the Rams simply didn't admit it as gamesmanship to keep other teams guessing. But the sports pundits think something is up! Why exactly the Rams would use him so heavily in the regular season but not in the playoffs even after he missed a couple of games with an injury is a source of intrigue to them because the Rams refused to acknowledge he was hurt. It's too bad those guys weren't coaching the Pats instead of Belichick as they are baffled even until today.

Him not at 100% was a huge break for New England, who's going to cover him out of the backfield as he is a dual threat, running and catching and yes, they did not say he was hurt, why would they, let the Patriots think he's ok. It was weird though as he had a couple of very good runs, maybe he just could not go all out 100% of the time, which stinks, just like when Gronkowski was playing on one leg vs the Giants in the 2012 Super Bowl, if he was 100% healthy, totally different scenario.

I had to watch it again as the first time I was a ball of stress, the second viewing game me a chance to watch things as they unfolded much more clearly.

I know the average pink hat fan was bored to death with that game, but to me, you had two great defensive minds at work in the game, Belichick and Philips, Bum taught his son well, Wade is a Hell of a DC, the Rams played outstanding defense, disguising their coverages and confusing Brady on a number of occasions, give me a defensive game vs some arcade game shootout with zero defense, I don't find the latter one bit entertaining.

George,

"Pink hat fan"....BWAHHHAAAAHAAA!

That is too funny George! You are sooooo great at the one liner descriptions. Remember the "Civil War Era" post office lady?

Well, if you’re not a fan of either team, like most people who don’t live in Boston or LA, you prefer lots of scoring, lead changes, big plays, etc. You want to be entertained and don’t really care who wins. I understand the game was a nail biter if you’re an LA or Pats fan. But for most of us it was a dull affair.

Note: I wanted it to be an exciting game, being played in Atlanta.

I love when the local news stations send some clambrained reporter to the streets to interview random fans during the build up for a big game and they always find some nitwit with the freshly bought Patriots hat and Brady jersey with the price tags still hanging off who doesn't know if a football is stuffed or inflated (insert your Patriots ball deflating jokes here) babbling about how they're so excited about the big game coming up and "We're going to win...…...WOOOOOO!!"...…………...imbeciles.

And I went to the local post office today to get a price quote on a package to Germany, asked her two questions; 1.) "Is it ok to get a price estimate on this one package, I hope I'm not putting you out" and B.) "What was it like charging the Union positions on the third day at Gettysburg during Pickett's Charge?"...…………..:wink2:

In the first half, the Patriots drove down the field, then Brady threw a boneheaded INT (and he's good for one of those every Super Bowl), drove down the field again and **** for brains missed a cookie FG, then drove down the field again, drive stalled, FG, then drove down the field again, fourth and one, they went for it, Brady had White open in the flat, tried to force it to Gronk, turnover on downs.

The Rams went three and out, three and out, got a first down and then the drive stalled, three and out.

The Patriots could have been up anywhere from 12-0 to 16-0 at that point but instead it was 3-0.

They scored 10 points in the second half...……….Cooks dropped two TD passes, one of which was a beautiful throw by Goff, dropped it right into his hands and he dropped it as Gilmore hooked his arm a bit and Harmon came over and drilled him.

So, the score could have been 16-14 with the Rams driving down the field late in the game for a chance to win it when Legatron or the Leganator or Greg the Leg missed a FG with 5 seconds left, if he drills that, it's a last second FG win and one of the most exciting finishes ever.

That's the NFL for you, a game of inches, could have beens, maybes, etc, etc...……………...

Question (to anyone who says that the game was BORING) how do you explain the "excitement" or "fever" that is exhibited during a 90 minute SOCCER game when the final score is something like 2-1, 1-0 2-2 and such.

I have seen it here, during the soccer "World Cup" tournament, many post remarking how exciting the game was when it ended in a 1-1 score.

Not criticizing just curious … :rolleyes2:

The difference is that a 1-0 or 2-1 game is the norm. That you see a 2-1 match doesn’t mean it was devoid of scoring opportunities. A comparable sport is hockey. In American football 13-3 is not the norm. Watching teams make 13 or however many punts it was is not exciting. Usually, during a match the action is such that you yell at the tv occasionally. On Sunday, I was basically quiet the whole game. Not for nothing was this the most poorly viewed game since 2008. While no one wanted to see pinball football, a 23-20 game or something like that would have been more compelling to watch.

The reason why the ratings were so low had nothing to do with the score and everything to do with the teams playing in the game, everyone at this point is sick of New England, the ratings were huge in Boston but nowhere else.

If it had been Saints/Chefs, **** tons of people would have watched the game to see an exciting 52-51 Super Bowl.

I recently watched the replays of every Super Bowl highlight package on NFL films (well, most of them, I will never watch anything to do with either of the Patriots/Jints and the Patriots/Iggles games) and the first 12 or so Super Bowls were God awful.

People rave about Super Bowl III and how tremendous it was; the outcome was tremendous in that it was and probably always will be the greatest upset in sports history, but good Lord that game was awful, 16-7? Halfback dive left, halfback dive right, incomplete pass, punt. Doofins 14 Redskins 7? Another snooze festival. And the game that shall not be mentioned, or more to the point, "The Scottish game" (that's a theatrical reference) was 17-14, the only excitement in that game was the final two drives.

The Super Bowls in the 1980's were for the most part blow outs, the NFC would demolish whatever sacrificial lamb showed up from the AFC, whether it be the Doofins, Donkos, Patriots or whoever.

Seldom does the game live up to the hype.

I think it's quite the contrary. The SB is an event. Unlike the WS where the teams can dictate the ratings, people tune in to see the game, regardless of team. However, if the game is unexciting, you will lose fans, especially the casual fan and this is what happened here.

You are correct if you past SBs from today's perspective but those games have to be viewed from their historical era and the style of football played back then and not today's, and for their historical importance only.

Correct, it is an event and as such, I can't imagine fans gathering at a house for a SB party tuning out from the game, you watch it regardless of the outcome, half the people are there to eat, watch the commercials and the halftime show anyway.

I remember during the Patriots/Giants second SB match up (or as I refer to it, colonoscopy round two), there was a woman there babbling with her granddaughter on a couch the entire first half, not watching one second of the game, shoveling food down her throat all the while, then during halftime when Madonna was on stage, we were all talking about the first half and she whirls around and says "HEY!, could you guys be quiet, I'm trying to listen to Madonna!!"...…………...if it was my house, should would have been exiting stage left at that point.

Regardless, if you look back at the vast majority of Super Bowls, they were either blow outs or boring games in recent memory; Donkos/Panthers, Donkos/Seahags, Steelers/Seahags (that was one of the worst Super Bowls of all time, Roethelisberger's helmet crossed the goal line, not the ball, talk about a blown call) Bucs/Raiders, Giants/Ravens (talk about a rock fight), Colts/Bears (good Lord what an awful game that was played in a monsoon)………...again, for the most part they don't live up to the hype.

The Super Bowl, at the end of the day, is just another football game. Yea, it means more, who wins, but the game itself is really waged no differently, for the most part, than other important games played over the season.

I suspect a couple of reasons why SBs are often letdowns:

- Most football games arent that exciting, truthfully -- unless you really care who wins. Probably, statistically, SBs tend to be "good games" at about the same rate as regular games (admittedly, I dont have the stats to back this up)
- Expectations are high because the two best teams, at least in theory, are playing each other. But as we know, high expectations are often a recipe for disappointment.

My favorite social media comment today: The Pats can add a couple more rings. One for prostitution and another for sex trafficking.

Don't tell me they're going to lose more draft picks?

Not to worry. The Pats will roll on after the phones are all destroyed and the witnesses disappear. They will probably award him the Nobel Peace Prize when they realize it's just another conspiracy of Pats haters. I'm sure he was there on a fact finding mission to liberate the sex slaves. And his $59 special was just part of the undercover mission.

No George, have no fear.
I hear that Kraft was really in search of a Gronk replacement and heard that he could get a good "tight end" in Florida. {eek3}
Also, the story goes that he was looking for someone who was talented at handling the ball with good hands.

I guess that after that Miami game, Kraft needed to go elsewhere for a happy ending.

He should use the "Uncle Leo defense; I'm old and confused."

I wonder what they'll call this "gate";

"Inflatgate"
"Handgate"
"Happyendinggate"

I suppose if you had your way, the NFL would strip the SB title from them; if they did that, they should do the right thing and give it to the rightful SB Champion.

The Saints.

As horrible as this incident is in total when you look at the element of human sex trafficking, Kraft's biggest punishment in all of this is the embarrassment, shame and ridicule that he's brought on himself and his franchise.

He really is a moron, he should step down as owner and hand the keys to his Son and just go away. He looks like crap, a shriveled up old man, like there is something not right upstairs, he's got this vacant look about him lately. Just go away, I don't want to see some old boozebag handed a trophy and slur "And tonight, we're all Patriots" ever again...……..adios Bob.

I love how his lawyers are claiming he's innocent; they have him dead to rights on video tape. For once, I'd just like someone, anyone to say "Yeah, I'm guilty, I was stupid, I am prepared to face whatever consequences there will be for my actions."

Oh and the reports I'm reading about how the NFL is going to dock them draft picks is hysterical; yeah, sure they are...……….wishful thinking by all the haters out there, that will be the day you punish the team for the stupidity of the owner...…………...the Colts and Cowboys among others say hello.

Welp, this pretty much closes the book on the 2018 NFL season...…...it's over, but not with a happy ending (so to speak)………………...

George...
this is a hard spot for Kraft to come back from...
family...friends...fans...haters...
everybody is wondering how and why?
it just doesn't make sense...
a multi billionaire in a public massage parlor...
the story is just insane...
it's gonna follow him forever and will sadly be part of his legacy...
I was listening to Rome the other day...
a couple of Pats fans (like you)...
called in and voiced their displeasure with Kraft...
if a video exists...
TMZ will probably air it...
which I personally don't care to watch...
I can't imagine Florida...
the home of the Dolphins...
will cut him much slack on not trying to embarrass him further...
the charge is a misdemeanor...
not a big deal really...
he made a mistake...
I wish I could tell you I think it will all blow over...
but this will follow him forever...
still...
the good news...
NE is probably the favorite to repeat this year...
