Napoleonic Paintings You Would Like to Represent (2 Viewers)

Another imagine; an artillery train. rather like this with a gun you could unlimber, for both the French and the British. We could even have some French lads lying down to fill the deep crevices.;) I know some of you would like it just the way it is.

It would have to be French or Prussian for me put that kind of loot out , I think it would be a Great idea and hope to see it done down the road . Beautiful painting by the way Bill ..as always.. All the best Gebhard

Yeah... I'm not even buying in great numbers. I have to pick and choose singles of each pose - and each time tabulating how much I am chalking up. :(

It would be great if FL have a lower-priced range for the "Mounted Personality" subgroup like what Kolobob do for different level of paint quality. I would like to buy most of them but have to line up some sponsors to finance the purchase

Go easy on the arms race, guys...

There are plenty of lower priced figures from a vast host of companies on the market . I think First Legion are doing just fine the way they are . Kolobob have painters of different skill levels painting their sculpts. A Great painter commands a higher price while someone not nearly as good can not expect to get the same price for their work . I would not be interested in a First legion sculpt painted to a lower quality as IMO it would no longer be a First Legion product. Here is the First Legion Philosophy from their website
Philosophy
Briefly speaking, the philosophy of our company is to produce products of the highest quality at prices affordable to the average consumer. We aim to make products that we ourselves want to collect and any who know us personally know that we take a great deal of pride in our collections and have always strived to achieve and maintain a certain quality level. The concept behind the Napoleon's Europe product range is simple: to emulate the quality of sculpting and painting found on the most discerning collector's figures coming out of Russia and offer them at a tiny fraction of the price. We hope that there are many out there like ourselves who want figures that are better painted and sculpted than those typically coming out of China and Hong Kong but who simply can't bear to pay over $100 for an infantry figure or up to $400 for a single cavalry figure.

This suites me perfectly and is what has drawn me to First Legion . I understand what your saying but we all have to decide how much is to much and what we can afford . I think your just wishing that First legions product was cheaper and I'm sure your not alone in thinking that ,if they were I could buy twice as much;) But we really don't want a watered down First Legion do we ?? All the best Gebhard

I am aware of FL's philosophy:
Briefly speaking, the philosophy of our company is to produce products of the highest quality at prices affordable to the average consumer.

What I meant is if we can have another range of prices for the "Mounted personality" sub-group - in the range of the the Russian Hussars or the British Light Dragoons, for example. Those are more than very good for me. Not a full scale watered-down version - then it wouldn't be FL, isn't it? I am not wishing for cheaper prices all-round - that would be unrealistic.

Like yourself, I hope I am in this for the long haul. If we are seeing prices increase at this rate from current levels, I don't know how I will cope. I am just one average consumer, of course.

Cheers

I think we just look at things differently ;) to me the Personality range are the icing on the First legion cake and are a treat and also a steal at the price . They are IMO comparable to a $400.00 figure bought elsewhere , I will buy the ones I like and I hope they continue this collection . Maybe Matt could address the possibility of making a cheaper version , If he weren't still being treated like a child by our nice host :) I'm sure he would post more often .. FREE MATT .. FREE MATT .. All the best Gebhard

I can see your point and it's great for you that the current offerings are a good match for your expectations. If FL can address the possibility of a lower-priced version for the Mounted Personality range, it will make more of us happier. ;)

Cost is great determiner of whether people would buy it in great numbers, but dreams are free.
I believe that there are people out there who would buy the set. I don't think that I would be one of them, (Short of winning the Lottery!) but I would love to see it done.
Perhaps a more cost effective release would be a French Ambulance and Separate wounded and tending figures. That might be doable and different?!
The cost of a full limber would certainly be limiting but I am not sure an ambulance would be all that much cheaper. Breaking it down you have a gun, the ammunition cart and the horses and riders. The traces are likely the biggest source of add-on cost and you have those for the ambulance. So really the difference comes down to the number of horses, which if you went for six pounders, you could reduce to 4, only one or two of which need be ridden, which makes the other two or three cost less than a mounted figure. So for roughly you have the cost of a cart figure, 1-2 mounted figures, something less than that for 2-3 horses, about the cost of two cannons, plus something added for the complexity of the tracing and fittings, depending on how functional you made it. It should be doable at less than the cost of a cavalry release.;)

Ok, time I think to return to the theme of our thread.;) I would very much like to reproduce this scene from Albuera.

Now for the question about mounted personalities available for less money here are my 2 cents :

I do like them a lot but since I really do want to have many samples of everything FL done for us Nap collectors, I will not be able to buy all mounted personalities .. but maybe 50-75%.. Those are simply stunning but yes they do come with a higher price tag. Now compare that to what a Pegaso 54mm mounted figure cost unassembled, unpainted (100$US and more) and you'll see that for :

-90$ FL charges for the english mounted colonel is simply unbelievable
-100$ FL hussars are dirt cheap
-120$ FL Brits are for me the best they did for the price especially the officer
-130$ FL carabiniers : now those are simply stunning, on one or two feet and the guy falling from his horse looks incredible : he'll be in my next order
-140$ and plus FL mounted personalities are well worth the money and I consider the ones that I do have now (Colbert, William) true jewels in my collection. I would buy them again in a second. Uxbridge and Vandeleur are next for me but I do understand your point.

If those mounted personalities could be available for 80$ I would be so happy and buy them all but budget is budget and I have to respect it.. and it's part of the fun too. If I could afford everything FL produces and just had to hit the add cart button without even having to surf their website for hours choosing carefully my next figures, it would be boring.. that's part of the fun for me :)

Alex

PS : when in life you have to choose between spending 160$ for a single mounted figure or 4 french line infantry figures, that's when I say to my wife while writing here on this forum that we're so fortunate to be where we are now :)

Thank you, Glad you posted it. Please continue to post anything else you find on the Internet. Isn't the Internet awesome?

I am thinking it must be a Russian book, but it is one I would like to have. If it is full of those wonderful full page pictures.

I quite like that one as well. It looks familiar but I don't think I have either that image or the book. I will put some feelers out.
