At the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, there is this impressive painting:

Charge of the 4th Hussars at the battle of Friedland, 14 June 1807

by Edouard Detaille

Its HUGE..... 376.0 x 445.0cm

and it blew me away when I saw it, when I was last in Sydney.

That would make a wonderful diorama, wouldn't it ?????

John

Yes it would, Detaille was a wonderful painter. Since you bring it up, here's a larger version that was posted earlier

You know Bill no matter how many times it gets posted its still one of my favorites . :) I may be wrong but I think I remember seeing a picture of Detaille at work surrounded by original items from the period . He was one of the best . All the best Gebhard

Well time for some more inspiration; how about a nice British beach assault? Anyone know where?

Mate ...That would be the Assault on San Sebastian :) painted by Mark Churms  The tragedy is remembered every year on August 31 with an extensive candlelit ceremony to this day so I hear ..Gebhard

Quite correct Geb, no surprise you got that one.:D Yes it also has the advantage of featuring a few lads in green. Ah well maybe not to much longer.

OK, there has been more than sufficient water under the bridge for the next installment. Here's another scene I hope to do soon, would look even better with some green lads.;):D

I hope at some point Saxony will be represented :D While these are not the greatest illustrations , I think First Legion could do a great job creating some Fantastic Saxons . Gebhard

Yes my friend, I would like to see these done as well! Have a little from every player in the game.

Aren't those plates from the L. Funcken books ?

When I was 12 years old, I read those books one after the other and even made a 4 hour long presentation on the grande armée... Most of my class (the girls) was sleeping during that presentation but it was cool nonetheless... I would like to own those books but most are in pretty bad shape these days ...

I'm with ya , you know I have been contacted by several not so public forum members telling me the same thing . It seems a lot of guys just collect one or two figures from each of First Legions Napoleonic releases to use as studies of the different Napoleonic Armies . They really do some well researched figures . All the best my friend Gebhard
