Napoleonic Paintings You Would Like to Represent (1 Viewer)

Aren't those plates from the L. Funcken books ?

When I was 12 years old, I read those books one after the other and even made a 4 hour long presentation on the grande armée... Most of my class (the girls) was sleeping during that presentation but it was cool nonetheless... I would like to own those books but most are in pretty bad shape these days ...

Hi Alex ,
you got it , the Funckens were very prolific to say the least the number of illustrations that they produced in the two volume set on the Napoleonic period is amazing . They also produced something for just about every period imaginable , I think I picked em up at a TS show real cheap a while back . I can only Imagine the reaction of both your teacher and your class ;) I can most definitely relate to that story as even now sometimes the old lady will ask me something about History only to be sorry when I get on a roll with a long winded answer . LOL All the best my friend Gebhard

Alex mate, you put the girls to sleep with your lecture on the grande armee, with illustrations?;):D I would have thought you could have pulled them in with paintings of all those dashing lads in curls and tight britches.:p:D

I'm with ya , you know I have been contacted by several not so public forum members telling me the same thing . It seems a lot of guys just collect one or two figures from each of First Legions Napoleonic releases to use as studies of the different Napoleonic Armies . They really do some well researched figures . All the best my friend Gebhard

I am one of those collectors. Depending on the release, I collect 3 or 4. Usually, the colors, the music and 1 or 2 of the line. I would like to start getting the officers as well. I have some catching up to do!

That is interesting. I either collect almost all of a release, usually with mulitiples, or none. It is not that they are all not great, just that I like to display them in action against their protagonists.

I have thoughts of doing a diorama at some point, but I really enjoy seeing up close and personal all of the different uniforms.

Yes you can. It is rather like a 3D uniform source. I was looking at some of the others last weekend and may eventually add some representatives from the other belligerents for that purpose.

I sure hope First legion will revisit Bayern with some more troops at some point , although the first release is still one of my favorites i would love to see First Legion have another go at em applying what they are now doing . I have always loved the Color of the uniforms and the very distinct Raupenhelm of the Bayerische Armee . I know its just a pipe dream but Those Cavalry and Artillery produced by First Legion would be a highlight of my collecting experience . :) :D:D Best regards Gebhard

I spent half of my younger days looking at osprey books and you know I still love looking at them. The illustrations are just Great I remember the Bavarian Calvary plate in one of those books with the soldier sitting by a Roadside Chapel... I would love to own that painting it really left an impression ... man I love those uniforms :) I'm sure Matt and his partners have some serious Reference Material and most likely have some Ospreys in there somewhere ;) But if not I'll split the postage cost with ya to ship the whole lot over :D .
So what ya pick up from Mr George ? Best regards Gebhard

Are you talking about the NJ show last weekend? In the show thread it was said George was there, with all his usual wares?

Isn't Time for some Austrians :) I know I gotta problem
I wouldn't worry about it mate, we all have some kind of problem. ;):D But on your Austrians, to paraphase one of General Colts lines from Kelly's Heroes, "...the Austrians, were they even in this war?" Of course I know better really but that bit of humor just fell into my strange thought processes.:D Needless to say I do hope you get what you want from these and I do like those paintings. Never could figure those white uniforms though?:p

I hope for Austrians also, sometime down the road. But in keeping with the Borodino and Waterloo, I would like to see Poles, Cossacks, Dutch, more Prussians, Saxons and Italians first.
The Austrians have beautiful uniforms though. :D
