Nazi invasion plans for Britain (2 Viewers)

Those are the kind of moments when you need great people with a little backbone in office. The difference between having a great man or merely a politican in office can be immense.

For example, I always wondered what, if any, difference there would have been if Theodore Roosevelt had been in office during WWI instead of Wilson. It's likely the US would have entered that war much sooner and it may have ended sooner. Who knows how that might have influenced the second war?

I have read the transcript of the book but, as Rob states the timing is not right to reply about the pro's and cons of the man at this time for us over here. Just glass houses, stones and throwing come to ones mind

An interesting and informative illustration of the evolution of public attitudes. Back in the day Churchill's position was very much the same as everyone else's at that time, very Victorian. As the years progress so attitudes change. Just look at the world of today and compare it with the world of the 1940s, the way we have all changed. Back then capital punishment was the accepted fate of murderers, today it is found repugnant. Mining and drilling were considered manly professions today they are "raping the planet" etc etc Times change and so do people, but thank God Churchill still had some of that old fire in him. He was the man of the hour.

trooper....
Its what I have been saying for quite some time when threads like this come up which allow discussion about the people, Haig was a prime example, and, viewed from 2010 was castigated without anyone really looking at the times they were active. And this sadly looks as if a few are going to try and denegrate Churchills role in WWII for some role in the empire. For me, a Goliath that was needed during 6 long hard years of total war.

As my comment stated on that thread I bow to your superior knowledge of Haig but I must just add that my judgement of him did very much include considerations of the times between 1916/18.

But on reflection I must further add that with your phenomenal output of close to 400 forum posts each and every month I now stand in awe at your sagacious opinions on..............Well..... practically everything on here.

To slightly misquote Kipling:- You are indeed a wiser man than me.

Do you know it could be mistaken as argumentative some of your comments. I post a quote on here in relation to some of the posts that did not address the historical era when opining on Haig and, link it with this thread about Churchill as I could see it starting again and, your post pops up.

It was not aimed at your comments or, the little unecessary comments about wisdom etc I happen to have read sufficiently to give a little input on certain areas as does everyone else. I note, you did so on the legal issues about the death of a war hero so, perhaps you also like to input on everything.

In not one of my posts have I stated that my views are more important than anyone elses or, that my input is correct over another members. However many posts I wish to put in on here is my affair and, perhaps only shows my enthusiam for the hobby and site than trying to be superior in wisdom.

I would expect such comments from some of the more argumentative posters that appear on here but, its rather strange from someone who obviously is well read.

Well I for one always look forward to Mitch posts + this is what a forum is about
Keep them coming Mitch

Back to the thread. I don't think the germans could have captured Dover in disguise. Can you imagine Jerry with the accent asking the local ''are these the vhite cliffs of Dower'' we would have sussed it straight away and called the plucky brit cop to arrest them all!!!!!

Once the original baiting post was removed, all posts pertaining to that kerfluffle went down too.

Now...back to the Nazi invasion of Englans...

What happened to this thread? I tune in this AM and find there are more deleted posts than there are readable posts. Another deletion massacree...

Well after the spoiling of my thread, best just say that those of us who didn't want the invasion of this country to happen and wanted the RAF to win, it didn't and they did! Eternal grattitude and respect to Churchill and the RAF:cool::cool:

Rob

When a baiting post is removed, all posts that began from that one get deleted as well (as the reference something that is gone).

All these deleted posts dropping reminds me of how many jerries fell from the english skys during the Battle of Britain. Tally Ho!!!!!

I too have just seen that advert and checked the BBC site but no further but, we should as you say have some really good docs coming. In all the fallout this AM my spitfire and a few other nice sets turned up from the in laws.

I have to say, having many spits of all scales, that IMO this has to be the best one I have seen. Absolutely astonishing This will never be beaten I did not get the Hurricanes but, the wait was worth it.

Sounds excellent doesn't it Mitch, I just know the beeb will do the victory and our heroes justice.

Congrats on your Spitfire mate, what a model and what an aircraft, even Galland wanted a few! . They say in the Luftwaffe the most frightening word was Spitfire! . Having that superb piece of machinery coming at you I can understand if they were bricking it!

You must get the Hurricane now Mitch, then you have the Battle winning pair:cool:
