I can't remember ever being less enthusiastic about an NBA Finals. Some good basketball but it is hard to care about who wins. I can't find a reason to pull for or against either team.

I'm old and bitter over Miami having a horseshoe up their collective ***** with their 3 point shooting vs the Celtics, watching them crater in this series is both wonderful and also infuriating, they picked a Hell of a time to cool off.

You live by the 3, you die by the 3.

They're 2-6 in their last 8 playoff games.

And are in the NBA finals.

Give their coach credit, "We're looking forward to bringing the series back to Miami".........yeah, sure; reminds me of one of the classic Larry Bird stories............he's walking off the court after they beat the Cadavers to go up 3-1 as the series was heading back to Boston for game 5, some ballbag in the crowd yells out "Hey Bird!! We'll see you back here for game six!!"...............Larry Legend looks up at the guy and calmly says "You've got a better chance of seeing God"...........

CLASSIC.

Denver is fun team to watch, great ball movement, they take the ball into the paint vs heaving up 3 after 3, run the fast break, play very good defense.

They are going to be a problem for any of the teams in the West for a while me thinks.

is this over yet...........yawn.....................did Lebron retire?........................can only hope.

Tom:

He did not……..

And in other news Durant is looking to force a trade to either Denver or Miami, depending on who wins this year.

Best,
Jason.

So much for that. I didn't realize Denver had never won the championship. They had some decent teams in the Dan Issel era. They date back to the ABA.

They shut down the Heat 3 point shooting, which carried them to the finals; why the Celtics left undrafted scrubs wide open time after time allowing them to hit 3's is beyond me.

Denver is on another level, they would have beaten the Celtics as well, so it matters not.

And for the love of Christ will the league do SOMETHING about Butler and the way he either leans into players or worse yet, kicks his feet out drawing contact and fouls, the fact that they called a foul on his late 3 was one thing, the fact that Denver challenged it and LOST is another.

In a way it was a good thing they called that foul as Butler thought he was in a groove, heaved up a three needlessly on their second to last possession that missed, then that midget Lowry heaved another one up that missed, so they went out the way they got in.....by the three.......you live by it, you die by it.

Nice run by the Heat, but no one cares about the loser, only the winner.

Denver is going to be a problem for the NBA moving forward, they have the chops to go on a nice multi title run now................

Good for them, glad they won, a very easy team to like.

They are owned by Stan Kroenke, who also owns the Rams and the Colorado Avalanche, as well as Arsenal of the EPL.

Since we don't have an NHL thread, it goes here; so last night the Panthers got smoked and lost the series to Vegas 4-1, basically in the span of 24 hours both of Florida's basketball and hockey teams got bounced.

Imagine the #8 Heat lost to the #1 Nuggets and the #8 Panthers lost to the #1 Golden Knights.................both #8 seeds from the same city........doubt that will ever happen again.

Everyone was talking about how both Miami teams had "great runs"...............yeah, swell, but neither finished the job.

No trophies for 2nd place; no one cares or will remember 5 years from now how "great" both of those runs were.

A friend of mine was in Miami on business, goes into the hotel bar Monday night and the basketball game wasn't even on, he had to ask the bartender to change the channel.

What a rabid, passionate fan base they have down there.

George once posted the phrase “hockey players are just different” and this past Stanley Cup championship proved it.

Kieth Tkachuk played in game 4 of the finals despite suffering a fractured sternum in game 3. That kind of injury makes it difficult to simply breathe, let alone get out of bed or skate or take a hit of any kind.

Aaron Ekblad, played in the finals with a broken foot, two separate shoulder dislocations and a torn oblique.

The NBA is full of weak hearted “players” who complain about load management and other meaningless garbage while hockey players fight through injuries that would keep anyone off their feet let alone away from work.

The hype surrounding Wembanyama is beyond overwhelming.

San Antonio is already making room in its trophy case for more championship trophies.

Again, I will be amazed if he is still playing for the Spurs in 5 years let alone winning championships.

I think Coach Pop has another run in him and I do like the French Connection to include their second rounder. I will take another Trophy & the +5!

ESPN fired Jeff Van Gundy? Unreal. They aren't making enough money? I always liked his commentary and willingness to criticize players and officials.

Van Grundy is one of the best broadcasters going, no idea why they let him go.

And I might have some SF bias but letting Steve Young go makes no sense either.

Disney says it was to cut costs but according to multiple sources:

In the second quarter of 2023, The Walt Disney Company generated about 21.82 billion U.S. dollars in revenue, up 13 percent from the same quarter of the previous year.

As usual too much is not enough.

The Lakers have purportedly had a great offseason resigning some key players and adding several free agents. They can't do much to make LeBron any younger or keep AD healthy but they have put together a team that can compete next year.

At first I did not fully understand the NBA’s reading for a new in-season tournament.

Then I read that it is expected to create millions in additional viewers via gambling revenue.
