The Lakers made the plunge and signed Howard. They must be really desperate. ESPN calculated that he will make about $15k per day under his $2 million contract. It must be nice for even an aging athlete that has failed numerous times and alienated almost everyone he has ever played with to still garner that kind of money. Hope springs eternal though despite ESPN's assessment:

"For years, Howard, 33, has sold an almost annual idea of a personal renaissance and epiphany, only to infuriate coaches and teammates with behavior that moved from selfish on the court to childish and disruptive off it."

33...I thought he was a lot older...closer to 40...

the Lakers have been very unlucky...
or extremely poorly managed for years...
I think a combination of both...

about Howard...
it's a strange contract...

the non-guaranteed deal...
comes with a stern caveat from the Lakers....
that if Howard disrupts the team...
he will be gone...
league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski....

they had to get somebody after Cousins tore his ACL...
I was hoping the would take Joakim Noah over him...

if you remember...
Howard left the Lakers and went to the Rockets for significantly less money...
that really pissed everybody off...
LA fans hate him for that and he is aggressively booed when he has to visit them at Staples Center...

then he bounced around to 5 other teams...
now he's back...
bad move in my opinion...

but they say his job will be to rebound...
not looking for much scoring from him...
reminds me of Dennis Rodman's role...

Howard has had his moments...
made tons of All Star teams...
it was always his attitude, unwillingness to blend in...and locker room presence that killed him...
not a team player...marches to his own music...

he's getting up there in age...
I hope he can get his mind right and contribute...

Ugh. Going to be a long season:

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James recently filed a trademark for the term "Taco Tuesday."

Until you posted the above, I had never heard of Taco Tuesday. However, apparently it’s a custom in certain parts of the US. At that point I didn’t see how you could trademark a custom but then I dug a little deeper and it turns out that a company called Taco John was granted a trademark to the term “Taco Tuesday” in 1989 and has defended it against all comers. I don’t see how James can be granted a registration if one already exists unless he can show non use or some other ground to invalidate the existing mark.

If you’re Catholic :wink2:

Greek Orthodox, but still.............

Fish three times a week, chicken three times a week, dinner out with Miss Tiffany once a week...……..

Red meat once a month (if that), pasta once a month, it is what it is at 58...…………………..since April, I've dropped 30lbs, so I'll stick what works.....:wink2:

George...
you've dropped 30 lbs. in 5 months?
you getting down to your fighting weight...
what are you weighing now?

what are you weighing now?

It was actually more like 4 months, over the Summer which is really, really tough, but yeah, 30lbs, down to 215lbs right now...………

At my peak of being in the gym 5 days a week throwing around the weights, I was 235lbs, so that's a 20lb drop from those days, this is the lightest I've been since I was in my late 30's...………..

I started hitting the gym in my late 20's when I weighted about 175lbs, gained 60lbs of muscle in 20 years...…

Most of the muscle is now gone, my gym days are over...….healthy diet, walking around my condo complex everyday has replaced the weights.

I have to admit I feel great...…….I just hope I don't gain it all back in Chicago...………..:wink2:

Steak, pasta, BBQ, eggs, bacon, pancakes, adult beverages at the bar, I'll have to be careful......^&grin

The USPTO rejected the trademark application, stating the phrase was “a commonplace term, message or expression widely used by a variety of sources that merely conveys an ordinary, familiar, well-recognized concept or sentiment.”

The NBA is on its hands and knees begging forgiveness from China after the Houston GM texted the following: "Fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong." You have to wonder how much influence (i.e. money) the Chinese have if even the NBA is beholden to it for some reason. Keep in mind that the NBA never says a word when there are political criticisms of the US from its players and coaches. But China is apparently off base.

Morey has created an International sheeeeeet storm with his tweets...

these tweets have jeopardized the NBA's desire to grow a fan base in China for the more than 600 million fans in China that consumed NBA content during the 2017-18 season, according to CNBC,

His account was quickly bombarded by angry replies before he deleted the message. Some social media users replied with “NMSL” — Chinese Internet slang that means “your mother is dead” — and called for Morey, who has been with the Rockets since 2006, to be fired. Others replied by hailing his support for the Hong Kong protesters, who began demonstrating in June in opposition to a proposal to a bill that would allow individuals to be extradited from Hong Kong to China.

Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta hastily issued a response Friday to the growing criticism.
“Listen, Daryl Morey does NOT speak for the Houston Rockets,” he wrote on Twitter. “Our presence in Tokyo is all about the promotion of the NBA internationally and we are NOT a political organization.” In a follow-up statement to ESPN, Fertitta clarified that he was merely intending to quell the “huge backlash” with his Twitter post and that “everything is fine with Daryl and me.”

Groveling to the Chinese and begging forgiveness while players and coaches relentlessly criticize the US is just another reason to dislike the NBA. Imagine an owner groveling when his GM and his family are being threatened. The GM should stick to his guns. All that high and mighty talk of organizations like the NBA and NFL about taking the high moral ground is hypocrisy. It is all about the money and public relations. You would be hard pressed to find any developed country that has the human rights abuses of China. But almost no one in business or politics will criticize them because of the enormous amounts of money that they control. But coaches that go on rants about the US get a free pass. There is no NBA apology or suggestion in those instances that the NBA is "not a political organization."
