Ok, as a fellow Bostonian, I just can't keep quiet with this one...
Yes, Phil is a better coach than Doc. However, Red will always be "The Coach." When they name the "coach of the year award" the Phil Jackson trophy then we'll talk.
Both are great coaches to be sure, but the biggest difference is that Red was a self made man, Phil got his titles through inheritance.
***************
Red...as you affectionately call him...will always be "The Coach" to you...and all of Boston...to the rest of the world...that keeps records...he will always be regarded as the "second most winningest" coach in the NBA...behind Jackson...you're being a "fellow Bostonian"...I'm glad you do concede Jackson is a better coach than Rivers...maybe the award should be named after him since he has won it 10 of the last 19 seasons...for a whooping 53%!!!!
read again...10 of the last 19 seasons!!!!!
******************Correct me if I'm wrong, but they've won 1 title since Shaq left in 2002 right? Going to the finals isn't quite the same as winning. And I'd love for the Celtics and Lakers to play in the finals again. People can talk all they want, but 9-2 in finals play is a very comforting statistic from where I sit particularly given the dismembering that went on with pretty much the same teams 2 years ago. Though I doubt you'll agree, a healthy KG last year and the conversation is probably about whether or not Boston will three peat.
*******************
You're right...but that's a pretty "slighted" statistic you just gave me...you "conveniently" left out the 3 Championships that Jackson won there before you started your "tailor made" comparison...so in actuality...Jackson has won the Championship 4 out of the last 10 years...a whopping 40%!!!
I guess you think if you twist the stats enough...you can make him look like a loser...but as a coach...he has totally dominated the Championships for the last two decades...
53%...I just don't understand how you can cannot give the man his propers and his dues...
Good Lord.....................in the last 2 decades..............53%!!!!!
**************The operative word in this sentence is "today." The "season" started about a month ago and in that time Rajon is the best point guard in the NBA.***************
hahaha...you put a "spin" on everything...but if you want to "twist" numbers again and define "today"...for statistics as post season...whether it's today...or 24 hours ago...Nash's numbers are still better...outscores and out assists Rajon...these are the facts...you can't dispute them...
**************Numbers? Here are some numbers....
Nash, 36, ZERO titles. Rajon, about 14 years old, working on his second in 3 years. Come on....the only number that matters is championships and Nash is tied with Lebron in that category...***************
this may be your best "twist" yet...now you say the only stats that count have to include only guys that wear rings...so with this "twisted logic"...Dominique Wilkins, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, Pete Maravich, Elgin Baylor, Reggie Miller...all duds in your book...right...hahaha...
but even though...with your same logic pertaining to "ring stats" as being the defining criteria...you conveniently omit Phil's accolades...he's got 12 rings...why the shift in logic here???
If rings mean the world to you in your stat counting...why do you disregard his...
*****************I have plenty of time, but unfortunately they're not playing anymore are they? Hmm...maybe next year they can show how much better they are then Rajon.
*****************
reread answer above...same answer to this "spin"...
**************Not true, I like Phil. He's the greatest babysitter in the history of the NBA. Over his career, his job hasn't been to coach (unless you call "give it Michael", "give it kobe", and "Shaq, please take your hands off Kobe's throat" coaching), rather it's been to stop great teams, loaded with talent and superstars, from imploding. In fairness, however, his ability to deal with those personalities is what makes him a great coach. I just haven't seen him win a title without a perennial superstar yet...after all, how many titles did Phil win when Michael was playing baseball?
***************
please...you must be kidding...hahaha...Boston has been stacked with "All Stars" throughout most of River's career...STACKED WITH THEM...talk about the "Queen of the Babysitters"...
All Star Teams selections...
2010...
Garnett
Pierce
Rondo
2009
Garnett
Pierce
Allen
2008
Allen
Pierce
Wallace
with all that talent...you gotta wonder how they ever lost a game...
give it to Garnett...give it to Rondo...give it to Allen...give it to Pierce...
wonder how many rings they would have won if Phil was "The Coach"...
bottom line...
**********"Not true, I like Phil. He's the greatest babysitter in the history of the NBA."************
just admit it...he has dominated the NBA Championships...you can talk about "Red" ..."Doc"...give a nickname to anybody you want...you can't dispute the facts...
most winningist ever
and
53% in last 19 years...
I think the Boston faithful hate Phil cause he shattered Auerbach's record...it must have hurt...
