Ohhhhhhhhh...gimme a break George...:p...

what about this group...

the cover of GQ or the FBI most wanted...:D

The jury is still out on whether Rajon plucks his eyebrows and wears make up during the game...I swear...he reminds me of the crossdressers on Bourbon Street...

Is Sasha still on the Lakers by the way?

He and Gasol, can just see them roaming the streets of LA looking for hot women because they are "Two wild and crazy guys!!"

The big three may be two years older, but Rajon is much better now and I'll take Wallace/Allen/Davis off the bench vs Posey/Brown/House anyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

Look at the job they have done on Superman in this series.

Nobody expected the Celtics to get to the finals, let alone beat Cleveland AND Orlando.

Everyone penciled in your team, so as far as I'm concerned, getting to the finals is huge, winning it would be equal to what happened in 1969, you remember that don't you Mike, are those balloons still waiting to drop from the roof?

Plus, you've got supergenious Phil as a coach, we've just got good old Doc Rivers, Phil is a much better coach, right Mike?

And Rajon is the best point guard in basketball right now.

Which you will find out shortly.

God dang George...you're too easy sometimes...I didn't mean to rile you up..you got them in a twist quick this time...

I was just making a "funny and friendly" reply on the comment you made on Gasols mug..."being only one a mother could love"...just laugh it off...why does it always have to boil down to Phil Jackson with you...anytime a conversation starts on the Lakers...you fall back on your Phil bashing...:D...is it the Auerbach thing still...

You flipped it quick this time...seems like the conversation was about Gasol's mug...but ended up the same conversation as last year when you belittled Phil Jackson's coaching abilities...hehehehe...before he took another Championship ring...

Is Phil a better coach than Rivers....pleeeeeeeeeease...again...remember how you got stoked up last year when he passed Red..."The Legacy"..."The God of the Gardens"..."The Coach"...

okay...enough about your self admitted hatred for Phil...

you're right...LA has no bench...no argument there...

Charles Barkley referred to their bench as a "seat" the other night...no backup besides Odoms...

but lately...they just keep winning with it George...they just keep winning titles...they just keep winning titles...they just keep winning titles...

Bostons is playing their best ball all year...peaking at the right time...good for them...they are my second favorite team...

1969....uhhhhhhhhh...no......I was 14 years old then....41 years ago...no I do not remember what happened then or the anybodies balloons...

Rajon is playing great...he's a hustler for sure...I'm sure all of Boston is living in the moment right now and loving it...popping a fresh brew and re-watching the "Rajon" highlight reel on ESPN today over and over and over...enjoy the moment...kudos to Rajon...he had a great game...

Is Rajon the best point guard in the NBA today...to Boston fans...I'm sure he is...

the truth...Nash's numbers are better...but he's not a Celt...hahahaha...

when you get time...look at Derrick Rose...Chauncey Billups...Aaron Brooks and Deron Williams...

enjoy ESPN today George...I actually had Boston -3 1/2 last night in a laugher...and also Tuesday night +7 in another blowout...

I love Boston...I'm making money with them this week...

watch TNT tonight...you can root against the all time Championship winning coach...your man...Phil Jackson"...

I'm guessing all of Boston hates him since he put Red in second place now...poor Phil...

have fun George...just have fun...sorry I got you started again this year on the Phil thing...it wasn't my intention...I was only talking about Gasols mug...

ps...Sasha is still on the Lakers...just coming off an injury...

I think Bynum could make a big difference in the LA/Boston matchup. He didn't play last time. Kobe also looks fresh and healthy. Fisher is playing like a new man even though he is five or six years past his prime. I can't wait for the finals. No comment on Phil. Not a big fan of the guy - sometimes not even sure he is awake on the bench.

The basketball experts, not me nor any other Boston fans are the ones who think Rajon is the best point guard in basketball today.

And no, you are right, I cannot stand Phil Jackson, coached two of the five greatest NBA players of all time and won championships as a result, good for him. He should have done a better job of keeping Kobe and Shaq together, he blew it. Don't like people who have a high opinion of themselves, plain and simple, end of story, we'll leave it at that.

Again, all the experts in 2008 picked the Lakers because they said Phil would outcoach Doc, it did not happen.

Doc has taken a lot of heat in Boston this year after the Celtics had an off year and finished 4th in the conference.

He has coached his azz off this year, has done a better job than 2008 IMO, I like the man very much, have had the pleasure of meeting him several times and he is just a decent human being.

Nobody thought the Celtics would end up in the finals, so this is gravy for me no matter what happens, just happy the big three are back there if they can close out the Magic and take the series, never count my chickens, not after the Bruins this year and the Yankees in 2004.

Have also met Kobe and Shaq afew times, Shaq is hysterical, one of the funniest human beings it's ever been my pleasure to meet, Kobe is a good guy too, not full of himself at all, a decent guy. Was rooting for the Lakers when they had him and Kobe on the same team. Not keeping them together was a bone headed blunder.

Back in the day I worked the front door of a high end Boston night club that all the pro ball players used to hit when they were in town, Yankees, Lakers, Pistons, Steelers, Raiders players, etc, etc, etc, used to come in, 99% of them were decent guys, totally different than you'd think they'd be.

Also met Phil a couple of times; no comment................

At first...

I really thought Orlando was a better team than Boston...

I had visions of 3 pointers and Dwight dominating in the paint...

Boston has really turned it up a notch now...

too much experience...too many veterans...they smell the blood in the water...

I was really surprised how the Celts ran through them at Orlando...

the Magic don't seem to have any heart...

maybe they are just a "one trick pony"...

if Boston knocks them out Monday...and there is no reason they shouldn't...

I mean the Magic have every reason to be blown out and Boston has every reason to slam the door shut...

then the Celtics will be very well rested for the West...

a very well rested team...

the West series has at least 2 more games...the quickest it will end will be May 27th...

Ok, as a fellow Bostonian, I just can't keep quiet with this one...

Is Phil a better coach than Rivers....pleeeeeeeeeease...again...remember how you got stoked up last year when he passed Red..."The Legacy"..."The God of the Gardens"..."The Coach"...

Yes, Phil is a better coach than Doc. However, Red will always be "The Coach." When they name the "coach of the year award" the Phil Jackson trophy then we'll talk. ;) Both are great coaches to be sure, but the biggest difference is that Red was a self made man, Phil got his titles through inheritance. ;)

but lately...they just keep winning with it George...they just keep winning titles...they just keep winning titles...they just keep winning titles...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they've won 1 title since Shaq left in 2002 right? Going to the finals isn't quite the same as winning. And I'd love for the Celtics and Lakers to play in the finals again. People can talk all they want, but 9-2 in finals play is a very comforting statistic from where I sit particularly given the dismembering that went on with pretty much the same teams 2 years ago. Though I doubt you'll agree, a healthy KG last year and the conversation is probably about whether or not Boston will threepeat. :D

Is Rajon the best point guard in the NBA today...to Boston fans...I'm sure he is...

The operative word in this sentence is "today." The "season" started about a month ago and in that time Rajon is the best point guard in the NBA.

the truth...Nash's numbers are better...but he's not a Celt...hahahaha...

Numbers? Here are some numbers....

Nash, 36, ZERO titles. Rajon, about 14 years old, working on his second in 3 years. Come on....the only number that matters is championships and Nash is tied with Lebron in that category...

when you get time...look at Derrick Rose...Chauncey Billups...Aaron Brooks and Deron Williams...

I have plenty of time, but unfortunately they're not playing anymore are they? Hmm...maybe next year they can show how much better they are then Rajon. ;)

I'm guessing all of Boston hates him since he put Red in second place now...poor Phil...

Not true, I like Phil. He's the greatest babysitter in the history of the NBA. Over his career, his job hasn't been to coach (unless you call "give it Michael", "give it kobe", and "Shaq, please take your hands off Kobe's throat" coaching), rather it's been to stop great teams, loaded with talent and superstars, from imploding. In fairness, however, his ability to deal with those personalities is what makes him a great coach. I just haven't seen him win a title without a perennial superstar yet...after all, how many titles did Phil win when Michael was playing baseball? ;)

just my unsolicited and grotesquely biased 2 cents,

Matt

I tuned in last night to watch the last few minutes of game 3, Lakers/Suns, yet another 100+ point affair for both teams (do they play defense at all in the Western Conference, it's like the old ABA) and I'll say this; I'd rather see Gasols mug for 7 games than Nash and Lopez, good God, Lopez looks like one of the Gieko cavemen and Nash, after Fisher rearranged his honker, is one train wreck of a human being.

The longhairtuckedbehindyourdumboears look is just not working for him.............

Red...as you affectionately call him...will always be "The Coach" to you...and all of Boston...to the rest of the world...that keeps records...he will always be regarded as the "second most winningest" coach in the NBA...behind Jackson...you're being a "fellow Bostonian"...I'm glad you do concede Jackson is a better coach than Rivers...maybe the award should be named after him since he has won it 10 of the last 19 seasons...for a whooping 53%!!!!

God dang Mike.....you're too easy sometimes.....Matt didnt' mean to rile you up.........you got them in a twist quick this time.......lol.....;)

As soon as someone disses the Great Phil Jackson, you really get upset.

Relax, both teams will settle this on the court, provided they both get there.

And shattering Reds record has nothing to do with my feelings towards Phil.

Nothing.

Having the "pleasure" of meeting him is what did it for me.

Too bad I wasn't coming to the San Antonio show, I'd tell you all about it, it is a great story actually, maybe if you come to Chicago, we'll have a couple of dozen adult beverages and I'll give you the poop on the prom about Phil...........

Mike,
Too bad, you'd love OTSN, but San Antonio in 2011 is already penciled in.

We were just funnin.............see you in the finals (hopefully we both make it, the Bruins have got me all in a twist blowing that 3-0 lead, so nothing is a sure thing)..................

The Suns are awful. At home with a 20+ FT advantage with every Laker playing like crap and the game is close until the end. The Lakers finish this in five game.

I heard from a friend Bynum might be out...completely...this could be interesting...there is not mush a bench to replace him...Kobe played the entire second half last night...I think...

Phil will save them...don't worry...:D

Hopefully Jack Nicholson can wake him up. :D I'm confident even without Bynum. Kobe and company were embarrassed by Boston. I think they bring it this time. Maybe we can still use those balloons from '69. ;)

read again...10 of the last 19 seasons!!!!!

Wow, 10 out of 19? 53% those are pretty amazing numbers. Except of course that Red won 9 out of 10 for 90% and then retired from coaching at 48 years old after having just won 8 straight titles. Oh, and then the Celtics also won 2 out of the next 3 after that with Red as GM. Oh, and tack on another 5 after that...And all with the same team no less...How old is Phil? Oh, right, he's 65...I wonder how many titles Red would have won if he coached another 17 years - at least 7, probably more.... ;)

You're right...but that's a pretty "slighted" statistic you just gave me...you "conveniently" left out the 3 Championships that Jackson won there before you started your "tailor made" comparison...so in actuality...Jackson has won the Championship 4 out of the last 10 years...a whopping 40%!!!

Yes, 4 out of the last 10, 10 out of the last 19. And also 1 out of the last 7. They're all valid statistics. If I were you, I'd be pointing to the 9 out of 12 he took through the 90's and early 00's.....Now that's a great statistic. Of course it doesn't equal Reds, 9 out of 10 for 90% or 8 straight for 100%. And, I'll say it again, he retired after winning 8 straight. So yes, Phil has more, but Phil is 65 and still coaching. Red only coached for 16 years and won 9 titles and he spent the first four+ years building the team from one of the worst franchises in the league, he never inherited greatness that Phil has always inherited. Phil has had his first experience "building" a team after Shaq left and it's 1 out of 7 since that time and he still had (arguably) the best player in the league on his team. And in case I haven't mentioned it enough, Red retired after winning 8 straight and 9 out of 10.

I guess you think if you twist the stats enough...you can make him look like a loser...but as a coach...he has totally dominated the Championships for the last two decades...

You're absolutely right, Michael, he has and I never suggested he was a loser. Of course, there was another Michael who had just a little bit to do with his winning. I hope you aren't suggesting that Michael wouldn't have won titles without Phil are you? Phil didn't win them in Chicago without Michael. :D

53%...I just don't understand how you can cannot give the man his propers and his dues...Good Lord.....................in the last 2 decades..............53%!!!!!

Who said I wasn't giving him his proper dues? You're the one who brought Red into this. Phil is a great coach to be sure, probably second best in the history of the NBA. Red, on the other hand, is probably the greatest single team official (coach, gm, etc..) in the history of professional sports.

hahaha...you put a "spin" on everything...but if you want to "twist" numbers again and define "today"...for statistics as post season...whether it's today...or 24 hours ago...Nash's numbers are still better...outscores and out assists Rajon...these are the facts...you can't dispute them...

Spin? Hardly. I was merely commenting that the only numbers that really matter are titles. I bet Mr. Nash would trade all of those points and assists for just one.

Hey, if Phoenix wins the lottery and somehow beats LA and the Celtics don't pull a Bruins, they can play head to head for a bit and we can see who is better.

A recent article about Rajon addresses this topic rather well....Rajon Article Yes, it's from the Globe, but still addresses this topic far better than I could hope to.

this may be your best "twist" yet...now you say the only stats that count have to include only guys that wear rings...so with this "twisted logic"...Dominique Wilkins, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, Pete Maravich, Elgin Baylor, Reggie Miller...all duds in your book...right...hahaha...

Not duds of course all great players. Peyton Manning is a great quarterback, but if he'd never won a Superbowl his greatness would have a huge asterisk next to it and he'd never have shed the "can't get it done when it counts" label that he, and some of the above list, certainly shared. Further, we as fans can look at the numbers, but the players themselves want titles, so it's their own measuring stick for greatness.

but even though...with your same logic pertaining to "ring stats" as being the defining criteria...you conveniently omit Phil's accolades...he's got 12 rings...why the shift in logic here???

Again, you misread me. Phil's achievements are undeniable - 12 rings counting his playing days. I'm just saying that's not as good as Red's 16 rings (counting GM) and especially when considering that Red stopped coaching at only 48 years old after winning 8 straight and 9 out of 10 (there, i said it again!). Again, if you had just left Red out of this and stuck to picking on Doc, we'd be having a different conversation. And let's not forget, Doc is a pretty good coach as well, with 2 coach of the year awards in 9 seasons coaching and one title....so he's no slouch, but he isn't Phil either and I don't think I ever suggested that he was. (* he's 1-0 against Phil in finals play and messed with Phil's head in 2008.) :D

reread answer above...same answer to this "spin"...

Perhaps it's where I'm from Mike, but in Boston the only successful year is one that ends in a title. In order to win a title and be truly great, you have to still be playing Basketball in June. All of those other guys are sitting home watching and perhaps they're doing so thinking, like you, that they're better than Rajon. And should Rajon win his 2nd title in only four seasons as a pro, I'm quite sure those are numbers that any of them would trade for. Talk about not giving someone their dues!

please...you must be kidding...hahaha...Boston has been stacked with "All Stars" throughout most of River's career...STACKED WITH THEM...talk about the "Queen of the Babysitters"...

Yes, I was most certainly just getting a rise out of you with my "Phil the babysitter" comment! Of course, there is just some tiny microscopic level of truth to it! :D

with all that talent...you gotta wonder how they ever lost a game...

Oh, I do agree with you on this, they've been loaded since Ainge took his head out of his behind and saved his job by bringing in Garnett and Allen to help Pierce. Like I said before though, if Garnett isn't hurt last year, we very well could be talking about a potential threepeat this year. So injury certainly played a role last season.

wonder how many rings they would have won if Phil was "The Coach"...

With Garnett out last year? Probably 1 just like Doc. I wonder how Phil would have fared if Michael or Kobe got hurt? :p

just admit it...he has dominated the NBA Championships...you can talk about "Red" ..."Doc"...give a nickname to anybody you want...you can't dispute the facts...

I'm not disputing the facts at all! Phil has won 10 out of 19 as you point out. So in recent history, he certainly stands alone at the top. Who said otherwise? I'm merely pointing out that his 10 out of 19 isn't so shiny when it's compared to 9 out of 10 and then an early retirement in the prime of a young career. 9 out of 10? 8 in a row? THEN RETIRE?? ;)

Oh, and let's not forget that the Celts won 2 out of the next 3 when Red stopped coaching at 48 years old and moved up to GM and it probably would have been 3 out of 3 had he continued coaching.

53% in last 19 years...

90% in 10 years. And Red built his own teams, Phil always inherits his. ;)

I think the Boston faithful hate Phil cause he shattered Auerbach's record...it must have hurt...

I don't hate Phil at all. I actually like Phil and am rather envious of him - he had the best seat in the house watching the best player in the history of the game rack up title after title. :D

I guess I'm just not sure how saying Phil is the second greatest coach in NBA history is "dissing" him. There are a lot of people out there, even ones outside of Boston, who feel the same way! Same for Rajon, a lot of folks right now think he's the best point guard in the NBA, not just people from Boston. And saying that he is doesn't take away from any of those other guys, it's just the reality right now. If Nash is the best point guard in the NBA then he'll prove it by beating LA and then beating Boston/Orlando. Until he wins something though, he's pre superbowl manning.

Ok, let's just agree to disagree!

Matt...you are an "artist" at embellishing and distorting the facts...spin it anyway you want...Auerbach only won 9 Championships as a coach...only 9...you're now crediting Auerbach with an additional 7 wins when he was not the coach and then another 7 more from the grave...with your math...I can only reply with the quote from Wikipedia...I put the link here so you can see I'm not embellishing...no twist on this quote...open it and read it yourself...it says he won 9 as a coach...any other rings came from another coach...does Auerbach get credit for all of them...

"After he retired from coaching, he served as president and front office executive of the Celtics until his death. As a coach, he won 938 games (a record at his retirement) and nine National Basketball Association (NBA) championships (surpassed only by Phil Jackson)."

see the last 5 words..."SURPASSED ONLY BY PHIL JACKSON"...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Auerbach

I don't care if he won them all in a row or over a hundred year span...he won 9 as a coach...Phil won 10...why can't you just admit it...

just 9 as a coach buddy...can't dispute the facts...all these "woulda"..."coulda" and "shoulda's" of yours...never really happened...he won 9 as a coach...this isn't "horseshoes and hand grenades"...I'm sorry but the facts are that Phil Jackson has won 10...1 more than Auerbach...

why do you argue this...it's a fact...

you credit Michael Jordan for all Phil's wins...but you neglect to mention that the string of wins by Auerbach had 6 Hall of Famers led by Bill Russell on those teams...

talk about a stacked deck...6 Hall of Famers on one single team...

the 1956-1967 Dynasty years...Boston was so packed with talent...I'm amazed they ever lost a game...

6 Hall of Famers...pretty convenient that you left that out...but Auerbach gets all the credit while poor Phil gets none with his "one man team" of Michael like you say...

you think Auerbach would have won any rings without that crew he had...

Those Celt teams were so loaded to the gills with talent...Jordan might have been relegated to the bench in that group...hahaha...

how come Jordan gets props and not Phil for the Chicago rings...

but Auerbach gets all the credit and not his 6 man Hall of Fame team...

some teams have one star...some are lucky to have the "Big Two"...you're really blessed if you have "The Big Three"...like the current 2010 Celts have (actually the big 4)...but 6 Hall of Famers on one team in a single season...hahahaha...how much coaching did Auerbach have to do...I bet he was eager to play every night with that team...great coaching job...hahaha...

Michael won them all for Phil...but Red won them all for the 6 Hall of Famers...

you would have made a good lawyer unless your opponent looked a little deeper into your arguements...

at your regular game...do they let you shuffle the deck...hahahaha...I know they don't let you deal...hahaha...

I know Boston fans are in a funk right now...

"The Impossible" has finally happened...3-0 and dropping the ball 4 straight...it's enough to make you start drinking huh...I know you're reeling..."don't go on tilt"...hockey season is over...relish in the Celts and forget the past...

there's nothing really wrong with living in the past...just be honest to yourself...

cheer up man...you still got the second best coach in the history of the NBA...he had 9 wins...

All of this started over me calling Gasol ugly.

Wow.

And he is ugly.

He'd make a freight train take a dirt road he's so ugly.

His face looks like the back roads of Morocco.

Even worse in HD.

He makes me regret buying an HD TV.

He makes Shemp Howard look like George Clooney.

I'm throwing in the towel Matt...

Phil is recognized as the winningest coach in the rest of the world...

except Boston...

I can't say it any other way...

I can understand why you guys hate him...

it's tough when a hometown "Legend's history" is replaced in the books...

sometimes you think records can't be broken...

fingers are pointed...excuses made...no credit will be given to the winner...

I understand...

I'm blue in the face trying to prove it...

I'm throwing in the towel...but it's been a fun debate...hahaha...

good luck on the b-ball season...tough loss tonight...

I think Boston will take it in 6...

hope the Lakers take care of their business too...

the bad news for you...your point guard had a bad bad bad night...9 points...3 rebounds...8 assists...

the good news for you...Chicago is courting Phil with the hopes of luring Lebron...plus Dr. B wants Phil to take a pay cut...

Awwwww George...he always reminded me of Lon Chaney...
