Matt...you are an "artist" at embellishing and distorting the facts...spin it anyway you want...Auerbach only won 9 Championships as a coach...only 9...you're now crediting Auerbach with an additional 7 wins when he was not the coach and then another 7 more from the grave...with your math...I can only reply with the quote from Wikipedia...I put the link here so you can see I'm not embellishing...no twist on this quote...open it and read it yourself...it says he won 9 as a coach...any other rings came from another coach...does Auerbach get credit for all of them...

You seemed to count Phil's two as a player in your reference to 12 rings, no? Auerbach won 9 in 10 years as coach and then retired after having won 8 straight. That's not spin really, that's just a fact. As it is a fact that Phil has won 10. So, yes, Phil has won the most. I don't recall saying otherwise.

see the last 5 words..."SURPASSED ONLY BY PHIL JACKSON"...

Again, never said he wasn't. My point was only that Auerbach won his titles by the time he was 48 and retired and had he coached until he was 65 he could have won many more. I thought we were talking about who was a better coach? If Phil's 10 to Red's 9 make him a better coach in your book, then this conversation needn't continue!

I don't care if he won them all in a row or over a hundred year span...he won 9 as a coach...Phil won 10...why can't you just admit it...

Admit it? Who is denying it....ready...Phil Jackson has won more titles as a coach than other coach in NBA history. How's that? Now, the follow up - Phil Jackson is the second best coach in NBA history. :D

you credit Michael Jordan for all Phil's wins...but you neglect to mention that the string of wins by Auerbach had 6 Hall of Famers led by Bill Russell on those teams...

Every team that wins a title has great players on them. Only one team had the best player ever on it. :p

talk about a stacked deck...6 Hall of Famers on one single team...

And not a league leading scorer in the lot of them!

the 1956-1967 Dynasty years...Boston was so packed with talent...I'm amazed they ever lost a game...

And who was the architect of that talent? Who built the team? Hmm...I wonder. Like I said, Phil inherited his championship teams, a point you seem to ignore.

6 Hall of Famers...pretty convenient that you left that out...but Auerbach gets all the credit while poor Phil gets none with his "one man team" of Michael like you say...

Why do you constantly say that Phil gets NO credit? No one said that! I already said he's the second best coach in NBA history. Yet you somehow find that insulting to him! ;) And Boston may have had six future hall of famers on the team, though no doubt many of the lakers and Celtics teams of the 80's had their fare share of future hall of famers on them and I don't rank their coaches better than Phil or Red.

you think Auerbach would have won any rings without that crew he had...

Sigh....like i said, every championship teams have great players on them. But there's only one Michael Jordan.

how come Jordan gets props and not Phil for the Chicago rings...

Well, because Jordan was the greatest player ever, Phil is only the 2nd greatest coach! ;) Seriously though, in my opinion the coaches probably get too much credit as it's the players who are out on the court. However, a huge aspect of coaching is building the right team and I've yet to see that from Jackson (not saying he couldn't of course, he just hasn't really had to).

but Auerbach gets all the credit and not his 6 man Hall of Fame team...

On the contrary, i never said that Red gets the credit. I merely said that he gets more credit than Phil. ;)

you would have made a good lawyer unless your opponent looked a little deeper into your arguements...

HA! Pot-kettle-black. You're not really listening to anything I'm saying, you're just making inference after inference of things I'm not saying and drawing your own conclusions and extrapolations! You just keep walking the party line (10 titles 10 titles) and not looking at anything beyond that!

"The Impossible" has finally happened...3-0 and dropping the ball 4 straight...it's enough to make you start drinking huh...I know you're reeling..."don't go on tilt"...hockey season is over...relish in the Celts and forget the past...

As long as it doesn't happen again! 3-1 now, so I'll relish the Celtics when they win one of the next 3 games! And I'll REALLY relish them if Doc knocks off King Phil again. ;)

there's nothing really wrong with living in the past...just be honest to yourself...

Living in the past? Come on now, what city has won more titles in the last 10 years that Boston? No need to live in the past, the present has been fantastic!

cheer up man...you still got the second best coach in the history of the NBA...he had 9 wins...

Well, seeing as Red is the best, are you saying Doc is second? Hmm...I would put Phil second, not Doc, but hey if that's how you feel man. :D

Matt...I give up...

I misread it and heard it wrong on the news...

I have been wrong all this time...

you are right...

Auerbach is the winningest coach ever...

long live the winningest coach ever...

Hoooray for Auerbach...:D

No no, Phil is the winningest coach ever, Red is the greatest coach ever. See, that's the point of confusion! :D

And for the record and to take this full circle, I don't think Gasol is THAT ugly.

And for the record and to take this full circle, I don't think Gasol is THAT ugly.

When the Lakers are up by 40 and he tips in a rebound, storms back up the court with that "Raiders of the Lost Ark ending scene where everyones faces melted off" open mouthed primal scream, he is one ugly dude.............

And Michael is right, that was one ugly game by Rondo last night, the Celtics half court game was terrible and how many uncontested lay ups/dunks/rebound tip ins did superman have last night? FOUL THE CEMENTHEAD, he is a BRUTAL free throw shooter, just alpo dog meat awful.

Thanks to that crap effort last night, this is now going 6; if it goes 7, they've pulled a Bruin and they are toast..................

Oh and for the record, tell me Jackson and Van Gundy weren't in their glory last night; they've been waiting patiently for three games to ballwash all over the Magic, they got their chance last night, man oh man talk about over the top.

The funny thing is Orlando played their brains out and were it not for a Pierce brain fart with 12 seconds on the clock, the game and the series was over despite all the Magic "magic." It went to OT as it was, then the Celtics did their best "Italian stone mason" impression and threw up brick after brick in the OT.............

I lost money last night...Boston -7...Magic was definitely motivated and I just don't see how Gundy got them up for that game...maybe Dwight ain't no quitter...he got some heart...darn Celts had every reason to slam the door and Magic had no reason to play...I though they would fall apart like a cheap suit...that game stifled my logic...to lose Game 4 to clinch at home...this may go 6 now...Orlando should be stoked to the max for Game 5...especially at home...it's gonna be loud if they don't get blown out early...or even hang around...would be a big advantage to close in 5 and rest up for the Lakers...very uncharacteristic game for Rajon last night...can't explain that...look for a much better effort in Game 5...

Mike,
I'm with you, don't know how Van Gundy got them up for the game, he's the type of coach I used to tune out as a player, a beachball with feet and his theatrics on the sideline are pathetic, he looks more like a fan than a coach.

That said, a veteran team should not have laid an egg like that last night when they have the chance to close out a team, can't see anyway the Celtics win game 5, it all comes down to game 6 and if they lose, they are toast.

All Sports really are amazing, the human drama of it all, some guys rise to the occasion, others soil themselves, those who don't follow sports are missing the boat...........

I think he is so under rated...he is a very good coach in my opinion...always had a winning record...sometimes...really big percentages...I think he makes good adjustments...

and I also like that he is a little animated...I hated Parcells when he was the Cowboys coach...like a frigging Zombie...I used to wish he could show a little emotion and get a little excited to pump them up...excluding his tirades for incompetence from the players...

I read an article once...about one of the reasons he was so willing to leave Miami...

which was listed as "personal family" reasons before Riley took over...

but the article implied that he thought Shaq was uncoachable and showed him no respect...

often referring to him as..."The Hedgehog"...aka...Ron Jeremy...in public...

and while there is an uncanny resemblence...Shaq's lack of respect for him as a coach was one of the reasons he was eager to leave...

you can't make this stuff up...:D

Are you guys really that surprised by the result yesterday? Sweeping the Magic was probably never in the cards, they're too good for that. I think the problem was the opposite, the Magic had everything to play for while the Celtics probably got a bit too comfortable. And even then, it went to OT (why Doc didn't call a timeout at the end of regulation is completely beyond me). Yes, Orlando will be up for Game 5 big, but then again, losing will probably awaken Boston and get them their focus back. I expect game 5 to be a real tight game which could go either way, but my gut tells me Boston will close them out (knock on wood). I don't expect the series to go past 6 though.

What's the line on game 5? If it was Boston -7 in game 4 i bet there will be a huge shift in it....

I think Boston still has their hands full. The Magic can shoot the old b-ball and that means they can win on any given night. Plus they have two of the final three games at home. Boston should win in 6. The Suns on the other hand play no D and have to rely on every Laker player taking the night off to win at home. Lakers in five.

And you guys are making fun of Gasol?

Ugh. The Lakers got torched last night. If the Suns can shut them down with their pathetic zone D, that is not a good sign. I still think LA wins in 6.

I'm afraid it's LA in seven...with no much needed rest time...this is what the home court advantage is all about...

All they have to do is win 6 home games...not insurmountable at all...in fact it's expected...

It's frustrating to watch them. Some nights unbeatable and others awful. I'm still amazed at how differently teams like the Suns play at home. On the road they stink. The 20+ FT advantage helps, but the Lakers get that when they play at home. So I can't complain.

For the NBA...Las Vegas usually gives +4 1/2 line points to the home team...

look at this link...

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/standings;_ylt=Avi.vag88Zgw.nrE8yAYOIC8vLYF

every single team has a higher winning percentage at home...

it's that way every year...

football...basketball...and baseball...maybe not as dominant in football...

but home cooking, your own bed, your wife or girlfriend, no travel, no jet lag, crowd support, familiar surroundings...

it's HUGE...

I think it's even more significant to the less dominant teams...

I don't think it's a big of factor for the upper echelon teams...

it seems like the best teams can play around it...
