Hi guys,
One of the great things in this little hobby of ours is the ability to change your mind (and opinions) on what K&C will and will not produce at any one given time.
In the past when asked if K&C would produce any specific item or group of items I always try and give reasonably precise answers for that time or for that foreseeable future. Of course circumstances change as do market forces and, in more than a few instances, you get to reverse a previous decision. I think that’s called flexibility and adaptability.
When asked first a few years back “Would K&C do more Russians or Eastern Front?” I replied truthfully then, “That I had no intention of going down that road at that time or in the near future.”
Same goes for Prussians, Austrians, Brunswickers and a few others… At this time (and for the foreseeable future) no plans for K&C to go there with their Napoleonics. We’ve still got plenty of French and Brits to tackle.
Talking of which… discussing with collectors, dealers and a couple of other manufacturers about Napoleonics… virtually 90% of that particular market prefers French and British items to any other!
In these days of tightening budgets and restricted production capacity it makes sound commercial sense to develop and promote product that already has a waiting market rather than cater to a much smaller but perhaps more vocal audience of Prussian and Austrian enthusiasts.
Of Course there are always exceptions to the rule and K&C and yours truly will always take a “leap of faith” into roads less travelled and sometimes more obscure.
But in general, it makes sense to look at your sales charts… talk to your dealers and collectors… and use your own (and your team’s) gut instincts in what to do… how to do it… and, importantly… when and if…
Best wishes and happy collecting!
Andy C.
P.S. For the record… when did I ever say, “K&C would never do Italian armour?”
Answer on a postcard, please.
