I like the idea of single artillery figures along with the individual cannons. One thought or suggestion on the subject: would anyone else be interested in artillery troops in overcoats? I don't think I've ever seen any of those made before. I think some of them could be useful for depicting a range of battles -- Fredricksburg, Stones River and Nashville, to name a few.

Perhaps I've never seen these because artillerymen did not serve their pieces while wearing their overcoats. Does anyone have research or insight on this?

It's possible you don't need greatcoats on artillerymen.

Lieutenant Colonel Frederick F. Cavada (1832 - 1871) who was at Fredericksburg with the 114th Pa. painted artillerymen w/o greatcoats. The work is strenuous and one can put his greatcoat on a limber or the horses while an infantryman has to carry or wear all his stuff or lose it.

Thanks Scott. I hadn't thought about the fact that they would have a convenient place to stow their extra gear.

We are going to release a few more single artillerymen so you can mix and match with the various limited edition crews we come out with each year. This will allow you to buy more than one set and not have it appear as a carbon copy. Artilleryman were trained professionals that had specific jobs to fire the guns fast and accurately. Even in action there is a fair amount of time when part of the crew is in a fairly static position while other members perform their tasks. Too many figures in dynamic positions at once translates into a crew that is not working together.
In addition to the generic figures already released we will probably visit this subject with some basic Federals and Confederates to create crews too.

As far as the crewmen in overcoats... cold or inclement weather requires protective clothing whether you are an artilleryman, cavalryman or an infantryman. I have crewed guns in bad weather and if you need a poncho or an overcoat, you wear one.

When we make a general release of figures in this type of clothing we will include all branches. For the moment there are plenty of other things in development to fill in gaps in the existing line.

Hope this helps!

I don't know how Britains keeps so many different lines going all at once.

This sounds very promising. Thanks for the information, Ken. Missed the first Union set, but working on rectifying this at the moment.

Speaking of Artillery; when did the Union and Confederate Gun sets # 1 come out? I just bought the Reb Gun # 2 "Return to Battery", but I missed the first set as I've only been collecting a short time. I don't see it for sale on any of the web sites. Is it retired and I've missed my chance?

W. Britain under 1st Gear ownership has produced four guns with crews for the ACW range.
The first set was a Confederate crew ramming a charge home, the second set was a Federal crew firing the gun...both of these sets are sold out but may still be available on the secondary market.
The third set was a Confederate crew returning the gun to battery and the newest set is a Federal crew loading canister. There will be a few more Confederate sets returning the gun to battery coming in soon and the newest Federal crew is due to be released soon.
Next year will see two new sets in addition to the single guns and crew figures.

Hope this helps,
Ken

Sounds like by the end of next year we will be close to having at least a full Confederate battery of 4 guns with crews :D

Yeah I'm a pest on this but.....

"Alfred Waud attended every battle of the Army of the Potomac between the First Battle of Bull Run in 1861 and the Siege of Petersburg in 1865. ...."

Your mileage may vary on other fronts. Greatcoated figures would be "cool."

Hope we can see also single gunners for other war thaters = Revolutionary War! And by the war: where are some Napo Artillery?

Just read this a little more closely and am excited about the prospects of building entirely new gun crew combinations to man 1 or more of the extra guns due for release later in the year by mixing and matching the single figures with the existing crews a bit. Nice touch. Thanks WB. :)

Wondering if we might see some Federal officer figures in the future. Would love to see a battery commander and perhaps a mounted brigade commander in particular at some point.

Saw this diorama set with artillery set at the Mananas visitor's center in early June. Anyone seen anything similar at other battlefields?
