As the administrator I can see the IP addresses of all guests so I suppose if I wanted to look each one up I could see the general area of the world they were from, but nothing specific such as names etc.

I hope this answers your questions.
Best regards,

Shannon,
How about if I'm hearing tinfoil on my head?

I picture those disembodied faces, lit from above, like on Krypton in Superman.

Raymond, many of the "guests" are people, and others are search engine spiders that 'crawl' websites page by page picking out the keywords to get those pages registered with whichever search engine they represent.

If you click the "Who's online?" link at the bottom of the main page it will show you which members are on, but you can also choose to see only guests or only search-bots (spiders).

Best regards,

Shannon,

Thanks very much for your informative reply.

Yes, it is when I click the tab "Who's online?" that I see the multitude of guests and searchbots (spiders).

During the forum off peak hours by US time zones, the ratio of guests to members is usually 2:1 or 3:1.

The much higher ratio of 9:1 that I quoted in my previous post was on only one occasion.

Thanks, Raymond.

Gentle Moderators,

In addition to extending my congratulations, I want to communicate my gratitude for the roles you have undertaken. Through your efforts corrections to forum posts are accomplished, conflict is managed, and the forum environment is enhanced. Many times, the jobs you do are negatively evaluated by a vocal few, yet quietly appreciated by the many. The contributions you make to the forum are seemingly endless and they are highly significant. In response to the commitments you have made to making this forum a wonderful place, I offer you my support, my respect, and my friendship.

Thank you for the jobs you do.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Search-bots? Spiders? Why does it have to be Spiders? I hate Spiders!:eek:

Now you tell me you hate spiders. That must be from the Scottish side, because Vampires love spiders. Well, I better return them to the store and think of a different birthday gift.:D
