Hi all,

Recently I set in motion an idea for a diorama base for one of the shevles in my display cabinet.

I had a friend of mine put the actual base together for me:

I then bought a piece of insulation foam at Home Depot and cut it to size:

Afterwards, I painted it a dark green color and placed it in the base:

Then it was ready to go. I bought some ground covering called Flock & Turf from Scenic Express to cover the base with:

The scene I set up will follow.............

Mark...nice job and nice pics...I know it's hard to take good pics on shelf dioramas...but nice job...thanks for the tutorial with explanations on "how to" and pics...love the Indian stalking them on the left side...very cool!

An outstanding dio creation Mark . . . . . and so simple too. Very nicely done . . . . . the finished result with everyting in place was a pleasure to view . . . .

The wilderness of the era you have depicted could be a terrifying and dangerous place. One never knew whom or what you might find in those deep dark woods: friend or foe? You have captured that element quite well. You can hear the branches snapping as your scouting party makes its way.

The single opponent to the left really works very well, and he doesn't even looked worried :wink2:. Although the British seem to be trying to move quietly through the forest, it doesn't seem likely. Very well done!!!

Very very nice Mark.Clever idea.May I ask about the makers of the trees?

Mark,

Really enjoyed the diorama and how well you arranged the scenry.

With the trees from scenery express what scale did you use.

Being new to the hobby not used to converting trains hobby scales to toy soldier scales.

Hi Mark,

With that particular tree I provided a link for, there is no issue of scale necessarily when using them in our hobby. In other words, that tree fits perfectly with the figures. On the surface one wouldn't think that it was tree from a toy train supplier. It's relatively tall but at 8 inches you can use a ruler and stand a figure next to it to get a good idea of how it would look. In my dio there is one of these trees visible on the far right. Hope that helps.

Mark

Maybe this will help a little more for folks to see one of the trees from Scenic Express and how it measures up to one of the soldiers. The tree directly behind Red Jacket (Indian with his hand up) is one of the trees that is in question. Another one is also seen on the far right edge of the forest:
