(P) ‘PATHFINDERS” is for those collectors who want and appreciate an even higher level of detail in their figures and are willing to pay the extra premium to obtain it.

I am rather bemused by this statement which was hidden in the detail on the Arnhem releases. What does this mean and say about figures that don't have P after their number?? I am also looking to see the real differences as a painter on these new figures compared to the older ones or, the figure standard recently released. In terms of the paint on Arnhem figures they are slightly darker in tonal colouration than previous releases and have shaving shadows but, IMO this is not something that is new or takes a master painter any longer or, make it more difficult to create. Darker coloured paint and a heavier style used does not increase work in terms of time or the experience required to say they are at another level and thus can be given an additional sum.

Plenty of questions in my mind are 'P' and non 'P' figures going to be released so, we can see what is being covered in the increase detail and cost?

Not liking the idea. All I see is frustration from collectors who want future releases to match their last in art form. And if the New Normal is two have two subsets of figures within a given range, that 'whooshing' sound will be collectors heading for the exit

I'll get the new releases as I am 'arnhem44mad, but to be completely honest the colour difference is a bit of a put off as is the price. I am on cloud 9 with the new releases but, really happy to see some reinforcements!

Mitch,

If it's more appealing and a better painted figure it likely took longer or a better painter...for example, a map can be scribbled upon to make it look like writing, or it can be done with extra detail therefore spending more time^&grin

Have to agree Mitch and at £54.00 for a single figure I won't be buying them !

New figures for Arnhem look excellent but are far out of my reach now:(

I agree that could be the case however, as I said from an experienced artistic side I just don't see the difference in quality level corresponding to the price increase and, a premium level tag. That's not personal taste its from a standpoint on the in's and out's of painting figures. If we are saying a map looks detailed so it means it took a better painter It could well be and then again, maybe not It could have been as easy (as has been done before) to then print a real map from a quality printer for figures and retain the price at the normal figure price. Most of this afternoon I have spoken with people who were going to buy these figures but, are now either not or, are sitting on the fence trying to justify this increase and importantly their compatibility with the larger already released sets from the range.

It will be very interesting indeed to see how this ''premium'' level pan's out within ranges existing. Will we see both standard and premium available in the same range which, will allow one to see the alleged increased level?? who knows its another interesting development but, leaves me with plenty questions arising from its introduction

Mitch,

I think that in your case, the "P" should stand for "(P)atience". Why not wait till you see these figures live before volunteering such a negative critique? As for the Dispatches, I saw nothing remotely resembling "hidden" whatsoever. In short, just give the "Pathfinder" series a short reprieve and lets see how they look and where they go. Thanks for reading. By the way, that was the most extensive monthly "Dispatches" I can recall-definitely broad spectrum!

Marc

$55 for new Market Garden & New Real West Indians release....Simply Amazing!

I haven't seen the figures yet...$55 Amazing!

Britians figures new American Revolution figures $30 per figure....Simply Amazing!

I guess KC is $25 per figure or 83% better quality than Britians, right? Or, how can Britians afford to keep there prices down?

Carlos

I believe it would be ideal to see the figures live but that is not an option open to all of us. I have many of the earlier MG figures and from the photos I can't see the differences. However, on the other hand, I know people like Joe (joegis) in his Westcoaster report said they were very good.

Perhaps in the interest of providing clarity, Andy could post a side by side comparison, indicating the differences between the old MG and new MG.

I'm with you Marc, I think a little patience is needed before a true comparison can be made regarding pricing, painting etc. I've found in the past that photographs of K&C items online often don't do them justice, but that could be said for a number of other TS manufacturers too.

In saying that I can see a difference between the previous Market Garden range and these new 'Pathfinder' series and to be honest the new figures seem far more detailed to me, however some extra pic's wouldn't go amiss.

As a huge Arnhem fan, I'm keen to expand my current collection, but I still have plenty of holes to fill based on the recent retired MG range.

Cheers.

The prices of toy soldiers are always on the rise. You have to bite the bullet and only buy what you really like these days . Be selective and choose carefully . The prices have not reached the peek yet and I can't see them falling at all. Chris.

Sorry but, this is a discussion forum and, in my expert opinion as a very good painter these are my observations. Now, I expected comments from people who just do not like anything negative said in the slightest about K&C products but, there is not sufficient work in terms of an increase in the expertise of the painter, in these figures to justify the price hike. That would be said whoever these products were from. Now, I will gladly also review these when they come out but, I have looked at a number of recent figures from pics and in real life which have all of these additional paint features shading, shaving lines and similar and are priced at £41/44 and cannot see what is added that could cost £10 plus to the Arnhem figures.

On a final point I heard the other day from a poster who commented on forum that we should cut some slack to a manufacturer because their products were cheap and, I may be wrong but, that's what I sort of pick up here in your comments about the extent of the dispatches here. A large dispatch and discontinued list so, accept all that comes??

I just guess we have to disagree

Mitch, I don't think anyone is questioning your right to express your opinion, I think it's more about giving others a chance to compare the figures, prices what-have-you and make their own minds up, heck the dispatches have only just come out mate. I think we can all safely say that no one will be happy with the big price-hike for what has been a hotly anticipated comeback. I certainly can't afford them at that price, regardless of the detail and I know I'm not alone in saying that. I'm of course disappointed, but hey that's life.

Nice one Toddy, i am also disappointed at the price rises but i will still find the money to get these figures as the detail looks awesome and i don't think the pic's do them justice. Unfortunately this is the way of the world where prices are on the rise no matter what it is and you can't expect a company to wear price increases if their own overheads have gone up. We can all try to be armchair experts on what it costs to manufacture toy soldiers but at the end of the day we don't really know what it costs to run a business like this. I know it's not fair as incomes are not matching price rises but life is not meant to be fair and you have to make the best of it. I know it's been said before but you collect what you can afford.

Tom

I will make no comment until I have seen one of these figures in my hand and as has been said before sometimes the pictures don't relay the true look of a figure. If I'm happy the extra dollars don't seem to much...of course I would like prices to go down but I would also like to find gold in my backyard, not going to happen....

Although I only collect WWII, I don't collect the Market Garden range. I saw the picture of every new figure released and although my initial impression converges with Mitch's, I think that the discussion about if their upgrade in quality is fairly reflected in their upgrade in price can only be firmly addressed and settled once they land on the hands of collectors. As for the reason of this move, I guess that it most probably reflects a K&C strategy to also be present in a niche that has been explored by other manufacturers such as First Legion for example, that are selling their figures in this price range.
