new movie DUNKIRK (2 Viewers)

DUNKIRK---Christopher Nolan commented on the World War II movie's perspectives, “The film is told from three points of view. The air (planes), the land (on the beach) and the sea (the evacuation by the navy). For the soldiers embarked in the conflict, the events took place on different timelines.
On land, some stayed one week stuck on the beach. On the water, the events lasted a maximum day; and if you were flying to Dunkirk, the British Spitfires would carry an hour of fuel. To mingle these different versions of history, one has to mix the temporal strata. Hence the complicated structure; Even if the story, once again, is very simple.
This is an essential moment in the history of the Second World War. If this evacuation had not been a success, Great Britain would have been obliged to capitulate. And the whole world would have been lost, or would have known a different fate: the Germans would undoubtedly have conquered Europe, the US would not have returned to war."
Among the three perspective, Tom Hardy is part of the air, Mark Rylance and Cillian Murphy are part of the sea, and Harry Styles and Fionn Whitehead are part of the land.

Re-watched the 1958 version with John Mills in preparation for the new release. Holds up well with time IMO. Chris

By the time July gets here I'll be so tired of all the Ads I'll be sick of it. Also it seems that heavily advertised movies turn out
not so good.

Not with todays media you will,,,lots Of LA LA LAND and kiddie computer cartoons

Saw a trailer hadn't seen before. Could be the best movie since SPR. Chris

I'm not a huge fan of movie trailers that give too much away, but we all know the Dunkirk story and this ones a cracker.

This is definitely must be seen at an IMAX Theater the week it comes out in July and purchase
later a 4K UHD disk. I just love my 4K setup. Christopher Nolan bashers are at it. So it
must be good.

I always go to the IMAX. Here's a comparison. The shaded area is a regular theater.

and the loon critics making idiotic statements,,Oh well ,,as the History Cannel put up a blurb,,"this is the anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg " showing an illustration of George Washington,,"our young interns are learning"

Oh I do hope this film is good or better. Too often war films fall down in their detail. I know WWW2 warships are not readily available but let us hope the ships and other equipment look authentic and do not detract from the main storyline. (Yes I admit to being a uniform and equipment geek, and I suspect I am not alone) An example of getting it totally wrong was the use of the USS Salem as the German warship Admiral Graf Spee in the old British film. Other inappropriate use of equipment, weapons in a war film may make an interesting thread.

In the trailer one can see that the British uniforms are correctly not in parade ground condition, but in some of the pictures shown in the British press there is a worrying degree of uniformity in the dress of the British soldiers in crowd scenes. There was one thing the British Army of old was not - was to be uniform in its dress.

If you see the film soon please post your thoughts not just how themes in the film work but how authentic it looks.

Apprehensive but will probably still go, but not with the wife.
