I posted this picture a couple of weeks ago...

I started a new...much bigger diorama...for my JJD FIW figures...

I had totally outgrown my old diorama table and wanted to display my fort on this one...

this is now in the office in my house...

while it's nowhere near finished...

I have made some progress...

the frame has been built...
stained and varnished...
it turned out good...

I have poured the rivers and have the shrubs in place...
I like the forked river...

I added tons of shrubs...
maybe 200 of them...
lots of rocks and broken wood...
once I get the dirt flocked...
it should look better...

I have a good layout...

the fort in one end...
a small bridge over a section of the river...
I will have a trail from the front gate of the fort leading to it...
having the British ambushed from the forest...
I have a forest in the middle...
2 rivers in the forest...
and a small area for grouping the Indians in non combat poses on the far end of the table...

I should have over 50 trees in the forest when I'm finished...

I want it pretty dense to give the Indians cover...

I need to start flocking...and finish the groundwork on the table...

but I have made a good start...

my mobility is a bit diminished as I had carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand 2 weeks ago and will have surgery on my right hand this coming week...

so progress will be slow...

but here are a few pics...

Hi Mike,
Impressive dio, will love to see it finished with all the details and troops....:salute::
Just a quick note, the fort´s outer gate is inside out....that is the side of the gate with the lock that should be in the inside is outside{sm2}{sm2}
Cheers
Luiz

thanks Luiz...

even though it's just a mock set up for measurement...

I can't leave the latch on the inside...

it makes it too easy for the Indians to get in...^&grin

Mike, wow...wow...wow...b.e.a.u.t.f.u.l.!! I got yesterday the CAN-05 set, I already see the Indian pushing his canoe in your river.
We all wait the next steps of course.
Have a quick recovery!!!

I thought this was going to be boring, showing a desk, typewriter and various other office equipment operated by a army headquarters, but far from it, this will be an amazing scene. Looking forward to watch the work in progress. :salute::, Robin.

This will be SPECTACULAR when it's finished Michael {bravo}}{bravo}}{bravo}}

Hope your hands are back to 100% ASAP....being ignorant I had to look up carpal tunnel surgery {eek3}

Take care

Martyn:)

Mate sometimes i wish we could swear on this forum because this deserves a great big F!@#$% brilliant set up awesome cobber.

Mike,

Wonderful work as always, but even as I view even the early stages of the work, questions flood my mind.

On top of the plywood, foam boards? If yes, how thick are the boards?

Overall dimension of the Table? The size seems ideal for many applications. Plenty of room for display, but not too wide so that the table is awkward.

Mike, that is very cool looking. I would not worry about the Indians getting in through the gate. You got a big hole in the side of the wall there! :)

Ken...
thank you...
it's 3/4" plywood...
85" x 45"...
approximately 7ft x 4ft...

about 1/4th of your epic fort display...

the sides were built up with 1" x 3"s...
I used mattress slats...
the ones that support your mattress above the metal frame...

sanded...stained and polyurethaned...

the first layer of foam was 1/2" thick...

the top layer is 3/4"s thick as I wanted to gouge some river work into it...

I had outgrown my old table and really wanted to display John's fort...
so this should hold me for a while...

Matthew...

thank you...

and yes...
that big hole is gonna be one of the focal points of the diorama...
gonna be plenty of action there...

Tremendous! Can't wait to see everything.

Brad...

thank you for the comment...
I will post pictures on progress and then when completed...

That's awesome. Nice size table. Love these construction threads. Being an amateur carpenter I enjoy seeing someone else's creative thinking and design process. Makes me want to work on my table. The fort is great.

Mike,

Man, this is looking awesome so far! I am as excited to see it in its finished form as you are constructing it. You are going to be the envy of the forum when this is complete!

Paul...thanks...I am always attracted to other peoples construction also...

Ken...you're the engineer...I trust your numbers...it's just that yours looks so much bigger...

thanks Mark...I will post pictures next time I have something updated...

here are a couple of newer pics...

I finished flocking the groundwork and have started adding tree...

the trees will go to the red line...

I will add some more wood and shrubs to the open area...

so many trees...but that's okay...I want a dense forest...
