New Release:M4A3E8 " Easy Eight " (1 Viewer)

Brian....

While we have your attention did any of the answers to the Chicago release get it spot on. Without telling which one at least a yes or no to further whet the appetite

Both Easy Eights look really great. As for value for money its awesome when compared to the competition. CS is always pushing the envelope in creativity for us collectors. In regards to the damaged Sherman I really like the blown tracks and mangled wheels ( and that goes for all the recent tank releases ) however I'm not really liking the second damaged turret matched with the tank hull, it just doesn't look right but I applaud the effort.

CFM....

Which way does it not look right? It may be the pics and that it has no weathering as compared to the lower hull so looks greener but, it may just be the way its pictured.

I am already planning how I will dremmel some hull hits.

To me the turret has to many shell holes in the turret & look like some think you would see on a tank firing range

For a 'Ronson' maybe five is quite a lot but, its a start in the right direction IMO and something which, Brian will bring more of and as everyone said its a brilliant price for the box full of kit you get

Perhaps the Sherman depicted is a victim of passing German tanks knocking to see if anyone is home or AT guns using it to range on. -- Al

Overall I think this is very nice looking release and the second (damaged) turret is innovative.

For me the damage on the second turret is odd in a couple ways. As has been noted, the number of hits does seem quite high, particularly in light of the lack of hits on the hull. I realize it was normal to put a few shots into a target but this seems excessive. The burst barrel is the second item that doesn't appeal to me. The damage there looks like a round was fired down an obstructed barrel rather than actual battle damage.

As a practical matter, hull hits would require a second hull but the turret hits require only a second turret. I'm wondering if the turrets come with interchangeable barrels so it is not necessary to use the burst barrel? And fewer hits would seem a bit more realistic.

Yes I think Brian said it comes with two barrels, a good idea:cool:.

I typed in a search for damaged shermans and allied tanks. Found many shermans and a few with three shots in a row on the turret and two on the hull. on one tank. There was two M10's with three shots to the turret on one and on the other it seemed like a flak gun had peppered the tirret there was so many holes.

These images no matter how hard I tried would not load up for site viewing. I like the turret and mentioned to Rob that as a stand alone piece it would look great on a dio with a damaged turret lying on the ground and, coming with all the extra's its a giant leap forward in the hobby and a great price.

No mfg. out there is offering more bang for a fair buck ( or pound ) than CS, with all the extra add on presentation pieces. It would be nice if we might give them a little credit and a big thanks instead of mooing about # of shot holes and busted barrels..We, as a group really do need to get a collective life:( Michael

Is one or both of the CS "Easy Eight" Shermans the same Sherman commanded by Jimmie Leach?

I've read he commanded three different Shermans named "Blockbuster". One was an M4A3 which was knocked out by a Panther, the second was an M4A3E8 Easy Eight, but I don't know what the third one was.

I'm assuming CS' olive drab "Blockbuster" is Leach's....so is the the "Winter" version possibly Leach's third "Blockbuster"?

No. The markings on the CS models are for an Easy 8 of the 2nd Armored Division, 66th Armored Regiment, Company B, Tank 2. Jimmie Leach was in the 4th Armored Division, 37th Tank Battalion, Company B, Tank 1.

Here is a photo of "Block Buster 3rd" taken around the Battle of the Bulge during the roughly 2 months of the war when some of the US tanks were whitewashed.

And here is what I believe is the same tank photographed months later on May 6, 1945 at Horaziovice, Czechoslovakia. The markings show it is 4th Armored Division, 37th Tank Battalion, Company B, Tank 1. And notice some of the tank crew are the same in both photos.

PHANTOM WARRIOR:

Thanks for the information. I have the Corgi 1/50 M4A3 "Blockbuster" that was knocked out at Arracourt.
I was hoping my CS Winter Easy Eight might be Leach's later "Blockbuster" during the Battle of the Bulge.

I have a photo of Leach's Easy Eight "Blockbuster" in Steven Zaloga's ARMORED THUNDERBOLT---but the whitewash covered up any ID on the tank. Your photos and info answered my question.

Thanks again.

Would you believe I just opened mine.

Questions:

There was not an antenna included with either of the Shermans, yet there is a hole for it

What are the other holes on the top front of the not damaged turret for.
