New Releases for April 2018 - The Conquest of America (3 Viewers)

Wringing hands? Wringing hands? Heck, I'd be opening a vein, committing Sepeku, and crying for my momma! -- Al

Al,
on a side note, how many planes do you have now?? I know you collect them in earnest, you must have your own Air & Space wing by now!
Tom

The name is Tom (Mike always gets that wrong!). My original point is that I like the figures/colors, theme. I just dislike the exact same pose. I would be happy to buy 10 different colors. Again, since this will probably not be a 300 figure series, having one of the same in different colors is fine and I will be buying it. My comments were a preference and a critique, doesn't mean its right for everyone, just what it means to me. And as I said before, it doesn't mean that I am not buying the figures!!

One final note and I appreciate your viewpoint, I do see it and that very well is a plausible way of looking at it.

Tom...
I'm sorry...
I really am...
I'm embarrassed...
I don't know why I do that...
I know your name...
I know I have done it more than once and I have no explanation...
forgive me please...
I'll get better...^&grin

and for the record...
I was not only referring exclusively to JJD when I said I don't like repaints and will no longer collect versions A...B...C...D...
Tommy Gunn does this...Spartans and FFL...
K&C does this...Spartans...

until recently I was a completist...
I am not doing that anymore...
I used to..
but they stick out like sore thumbs on a diorama...
and with that said...
I did order both version of the newest release today...^&grin

anyone who knows my collecting habits knows I'm a huge Jenkin's collector...
perhaps his biggest fan and proponent...
I consider John a good friend and I think the feeling is reciprocal...
he will call me occasionally and we may talk for hours on the phone...

the discussion on repaints was a side topic off my original post on John's historical accuracy...
John spends a tremendous amount of time on research and is rarely off...
he has actually told me that he does not mind rivet counters or critiques...
as he wants to produce accurate renditions and welcomes their input...

I firmly believe you like what you like...
and you buy what you want...
nobody should be criticized for having a specific taste and buying only what he wants...

Donnie...
I hope your post was not directed at me or Tom...
I don't think either of our posts were self centered to the extreme and rude...
I hope it was directed at someone else...
you know I'm a huge fan of JJD...
and have been for years...
I would never say anything derogatory about his work...
he is a stud!

You gotta come to Chicago Mike; I'm begging you my brother from another mother..........:wink2:

I'm coming George...
pull out one of your soccer jerseys...
and a fresh jar of Brylcreem...
I'm bringing a bottle to the hotel that has a bar that closes at midnight...
it will be the Treefrogger's community bottle...
tell Larry to get plenty of sleep...
cause you're gonna be worthless the next day...

Hi Tom, I have some 30 of John's aircraft (25 WW1, 4 inter-war, 1 SCW) and another 7 KC aircraft (4 WW2, 3 WW1), a one lone TGM Eindecker. There are also a couple of 1/32 aircraft, a brass SE-5 and a tinplate Fokker Triplane. This isn't counting various 1/48 and 1/72 scale aircraft. I am behind, probably permanently so, on John's more recent WW1 aircraft as I have been concentrating what little collecting money I have on the beautiful Boeing F4B's John did. I have all of those and now the F4U's have hit. Guess I'll never catch up but I'll give it a good shot.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

I don't think a little constructive criticism is meant to be mean or nasty to anyone. Most everyone who has posted here is a long time supporter of John's. Duplicate figures are less a concern for me when they depict troops in standardized uniforms (e.g. redcoats marching) in larger formations. You expect some uniformity of pose and look. But they are more noticeable in this context where you have unique individual dress among the Aztecs. Even a slight variation between the two figures would be nice. And I think because this line is early in development and there aren't that many figures as yet, it is all the more noticeable to have two figures that are identical in pose and features. I can understand the benefits of clone figures - like the manufacturer gets two for the cost of one sculpt and a collector might have a greater number color options to choose from. But this line is so popular that I think those who collect are more interested in adding to the ranks by buying both. And so two identical figures are not as good as perhaps two with slightly different features/poses. Just my opinion though. It's been a long time since we have had a good toy soldier dust up. I can remember some real ringers with KCs Ramjagger and some others. Good times.

Good Lord! I knew it was an air force. Well I guess I am guilty of having a Navy, although under pressure from my better half, a Cog and Roman Galley set sail from the harbor.

I think I have seen the Brass SE-5 too, that is a neat model!

NO WORRIES! Looking forward to seeing you in Chicago. I think we all have the same feelings about John, he is definitely a good guy and I am always happy to see his new stuff and to see him do well!

Tom, the air force is a bit out of hand. No more revetments for aircraft. The brass SE-5 is made by Samhongsa, from their Dawn Patrol Collection. They were quite limited in number and came in 3 trim levels. Mine is basic, but even so is a well detailed model. I think the models came with the choice of 3 or 4 different pilots markings. Mine is a Billy Bishop version and I think they made a Mick Mannock, but I don't remember the others. You don't see many of them around. -- Al

Hey Mike ... when it comes to Chicago and the "late night drinking exhibitions " ... it's the same old / same old.

As normal, I'll just prop him up, keep bringing him cups of BLACK coffee and try to keep the noise in the room down so his head won't explode. ...^&grin

There used to be a vendor at the Chicago show with these and I can't remember who it was. Had all versions and they were pricey. Beautifully done though! Very nice!

Al, I did a search and found a thread with pics of mine that didn't get eaten by the forum gremlins:

I'm still looking for additional Samhongsa SE-5a to add to my collection. However, as we've discussed, they are DHTF.

Moe, thanks for digging up the link. I had forgotten about it. You put some really great photos up, with good info. Still love that unpainted brass version. It be so shiny. ^&grin^&grin -- Al

My apologies for this thread going off-track. Back to those beautiful Aztecs! -- Al

Just a quick heads up guys!
Due to travel arrangements for the early May MFCA show in Philadelphia, some of the items for the April releases will be delayed.
The following items will now be shipped in mid-May after John returns from the USA.

AZ-15A Aztec Warrior
AZ-15B Aztec Warrior
