New Releases for August 2017 - Inter-War Aviation (2 Viewers)

Price difference is John's way of being awesome
He assumed everyone would want the Section Leader plane and wanted to give a slight price break for those wanting to fill out the Section with the other planes.

Thanks Julie for the confirmation/clarification on the pricing . . . . . I am sure that there will be many collectors who will want to collect the entire Section 4 of the "Fighting 6" squadron . . . . the price break will help . . . .

Thanks. Did he mention when the associated figures for this release are going to be announced?

I am no air force fan to the point of collecting, although I do admire the birds that John releases .....:salute::
But I have to say that these sets are very tempting......just tempting....For if I were to have space and budget to open this new collecting front.....That would mean dog house and divorce....for me{sm3}{sm3}{sm2}
Having said that ....may you all have a lot of fun with the birds and the auxiliary forces...and post a lot of pictures for I will love to see them...
Cheers
Luiz

Don't know where those flt deck sections are going to fit but the dinning room table looks empty and inviting to me.

Chris, I've got a Drexel coffee table earmarked for the setup. However, I think that JJ was concerned that not everyone could get away with that,;) so he designed them to allow for display flexibility. Specifically, A row of two (as opposed to all four pieces) can be used on a bookshelf display. And single sections will be available for collectors who want to display a single model, as demo'd in one of Jenkins' pics above.:D

I'm obviously not Julie, but I don't think that's been announced. However, I'd expect that they'll be released in two-figure sets. Once the gates open, experience suggests that we'll see releases fairly frequently, perhaps one a month. If you look at his crew figures, he really appears to have been influenced by color pics that appeared in Life Magazine before WW2:

Great photo. Like the blue tail paint job. Moe, do you know what sqdn? The insignia is just visible.

Hope paddles is giving the wave off. Could be messy. Chris

Hi Chris,

Fuselage code says it's Scouting 6. By the time that pic was taken, Air Groups were assigned by hull number, so the plane belongs to CV-6, Enterprise. The other tell is tail color. Each carrier had its own, CV-6 being blue.

I'm with you on the wave-off. Got a plan for that set, but I'll néed reinforcements!

Almost forgot about this little jewel:

Set the film to 2 min 30 sec to see Black 10 lead Saratoga's Air Group off the deck!

As nice as the planes, deck look to me I'm blown away with the sculpts of figures of the ground crew!! the sailors kneeling look like they just stepped out of a real photograph in their body positions and detail, no room in the budget for me on this range but I can see why so many here are very excited about getting these fine sets.

Simply stunning grouping when you combine the planes (I do love planes), deck, and a lot of great looking poses. Hmmm. I have been really cutting back, but this is oh so tempting. Of course, I have to find room to put more planes...

Great film strip. Like a trip back in time. -- Al

As regards the figure sets, a great advantage is that you can take those same sets and use them in a WW2 setting. "Fashion-wise," there's no difference. The jerseys, shoes, caps and dungarees are all the same.:D

Nothing better than a pre-war carrier on operations with a deck jammed with biplanes. Color and action everywhere. REALLY looking forwards to getting my hands on these new releases. Everything else goes on hold until my dining room table plays host to the carrier deck of the Saratoga, jammed with Boeing F4B's. Going to be Christmas for the next several months. -- Al

Carrier based airplanes have always fascinated and appealed to me. These models with their carrier deck bases are fantastic looking. I am wondering now where this might lead and am hopeful that more types will be offered in the future such as the Gruman F3F, the Douglas TBD Devastator, and the Douglas SBD Dauntless . . . . . I am even hopeful that John decides to offer WWII Naval and Marine Corps carrier based planes someday . . . .

Love to see an F3F and Devastators and Dauntless' in pre-war colors. Just can't go wrong with this period and all the beautiful color schemes. -- Al

Does anyone know the dimensions of the bases?
Matt

Believe that they're about 15 x 12. For visual context, consider the following:

The model is 12 x 8.13, so we've got some extra real estate (but not a huge amount).

I believe that Jenkins wanted to limit the overall width such that two, side-by-side, would fit on a bookshelf.

Well I pulled the "trigger" . . . . . pre-ordered IWA-10, IWA-100, and IWA-200 . . . . . now I will have to get busy and re-organize my display shelves to make room for them . . . .
