New Releases for August 2017 - Inter-War Aviation (2 Viewers)

I finally gave in to adding some WW1 and WW2 pieces to my collection for historical variety. I already picked up the K&C Tomahawk and Japanese bomber planes for a Pearl Harbor representation. These look nice on top of my display cabinet! Looking at one JJD plane for WW1. Likely a British fighter. Any suggestions? Also, I might acquire a few pieces to represent the Battle of the Bulge but not looking at a battle scene, just possibly an American unit with tank and jeep on the move with snow covered trees and some road signs. I think K&C produces the most items for something like this.

JMO, but you can do no better in terms of a JJD British WW1 fighter than the brand new Airco DH-2. It is superb and represents the finest JJD model to date. If the DH-2 is not to your taste, try and track down the Mannock SE-5. You also have the choice of the Ball Nieuport 17 or any one of the Camels. You will be happy with what ever fighter you choose but the DH-2 and SE-5 are examples of John's best work. -- Al

At this juncture, availability is going to be a consideration. I checked TF just now, and found the Ball Nieuport, Collishaw Sopwith Tripe and Hawker DH.2 for sale. If you dig around a bit, I suspect that the Bishop Nieuport 17 and Brown Camel can be had as well. If you want something that's genuinely unique and worthy of being a standalone showpiece, I'd recommend the DH.2. There's a thread devoted it down the news-list a short ways.

Mike, I don't want to step on the subject at hand, but your Jasta 11 models look great on those stands!

Back on topic...:wink2:

I'm gonna set the deck modules up on a square coffe-table, but will have to get a cover made for it.

The dust in TX will choke a goat, so you can imagine the plague it is on toy pilots!{eek3}

-Moe

Thank you Moe . . . . . Ya, I like my Flying Circus . . . . I've been thinking about using a square card table that I just picked up a few weeks back at a garage sale, especially when I eventually collect all four carrier deck plates. Two deck plates will fit on my shelf, however the shelf is not deep enough to accommodate all four. Dust is a problem anywhere you go. Even here dust has a way of creeping into even the shelf areas that have a door on them. My shelves are in my basement where my wife allows me to do anything I want and the dust is a constant nuisance . . . .

Greetings All:

As much as I like these I will not be getting them.

I've gotten three JJD planes recently and there have been serious issues with all of them. Two had major paint defects and one had broken rigging. These planes are a lot of money and the vendor refused to replace them. I suspect the damage was caused by the vendor but can't be certain.

As much as I want these and as neat as they are, I'm not going to be collecting the planes anymore. Just too much money to shell out for broken/damaged product

Corey

With all due respect to your post, I have to take issue with parts of the issues you have mentioned.

Living in HK, I'm lucky enough to be able to visit the JJD workshops where final packaging takes place and I would stake my reputation on the fact that JJD do not ship any products with the defects you state to their suppliers.

I'd back this up by having seen the JJD returns section on John's workbenches where stuff gets sent back to China.

If what you say is accurate and your suppliers, whomever they may be, refuse to deal with this issue then message JJD directly; you will find (as you know having tried to sell JJD based calendars) friendly and approachable.

This is highly unfortunate. If nothing else, it sounds like you need a new vendor, especially if you suspect he caused the problems. I have 2 dozen+ JJD aircraft and have had problems with only 2 of them, both very early releases, and both problems were due to overly tight packaging. My vendor immediately replaced both, no question asked. I am curious as to what the major paint issues are that you have run afoul of. John's quality control is outstanding, and I have never heard of another problem with the paint finish on any of his aircraft. It really is too bad that you have had these issues and that it has halted you from collecting these models. As mentioned in the earlier post, contact JJD directly. John is very responsive. He will want to know of the problems with his product and the vendor you have been using. -- Al

Corey, can you tell us more? You mention that the vendor refused to replace the models. If you still have them, pics would help flesh-out your concerns. In making those few requests, let me also free you of any implication that you've got to "prove" something, or that you're under any obligation to do so. That wouldn't be fair, as it sounds as though you've ALREADY had a bad experience. Rather, I'm simply perplexed by your experiences with JJD product, as they are so at odds with my own.

Thoughts or comments?

Corey, I have 17 of the WWI Knights of the Sky aircraft and had no problems with any of them. Contact john with your concerns and I think you will find that he is extremely accommodating to insure that his customers are totally satisfied and happy . . . . .

Anyone thinking of adding add'l base plates to make a longer deck? Robin comes to mind.:smile2: Chris

Corey, I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to try and address your experiences in the KotS thread, as it sounds as though that's where things went downhill for you. :)

It would be handy to have one with a faux-elevator cooked into it, but the panels scale to 37.5 ft. The lifts were 40-44 feet across. That complicates the presentation considerably!

Quit putting these kinds of thoughts into my head Chris . . . . . I might consider doing that once I am able to collect the planes, the initial four deck plates, and the deck/flight crew figures . . . Would also require a display area that could accommodate the additional pieces . . .
:smile2: Mike

Additional deck plates, elevators, can the island be far behind, no small undertaking for the Sara?:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Steady Gentlemen, let's get the planes, deck and crew behind us. We don't want to overwhelm the beneficent one!:wink2:

Deep calming breath. Ok. I'm good now. Got carried away. However, in regards to overwhelming John, I am now working on the theory that John has cloned himself and that there are possibly dozens of him now turning out his tremendous and prodigious products.:wink2: -- Al

Doing some "prep" work in anticipation of IWA-10's arrival. Here is a pic of a Identification Card I quickly made using heavy card stock which I folded to form a "tent" and then trimmed to 1.5" x 5.5" size. I have placed it on a 33" x 33" card table that I picked up a few weeks ago at a garage sale. This might turn out to be my display table. I have found a spot for the table in my display area . . . although its in a tight spot I think it will work. Covered with a Navy Blue table cloth it should look very nice. Any suggestions on how I could improve the ID card or any corrections to it to make it more accurate would be appreciated . . . .
