New Releases for January 2019 - The Second World War (3 Viewers)

Good news, Mike and Chris ...^&grin

Hopefully, I get the remaining funds gathered and get mine soon.
WOW .. what a JJD line up of WWII Naval planes.

Well after two days from weather delays, F4U-1D VF-84 White #184 Navy Corsair touched down on my USS bunker Hill display base (along with the replacement propellers for #167 and #183). Outstanding model in every way as the first two Corsairs, with a full load of rockets mounted under the wings. The rockets are mounted in place and are not removable. Very pleased with it. I plan to display #184 with the wings down and ready for take off. In the background will be #183 with wings folded and being loaded with rockets. #167 will be displayed with wings folded and being pushed into position to be readied for a mission. Very much looking forward to the new crew figures and the deck tractor . . . . 2019 will be a great year to collect WWII BH . . . .

On the props, the narrow-chord version that first shipped with Jenkins' Corsairs was for an F4U-1A. So, the part can still be used with Marine planes or even New Zealand birds:

Can you dig it?:D

Mike;

Congratulations !

Your Carrier force is quite extensive now.

Thank you.

We are probably sending some cold temps your way.

Just want to extend a public thanks to John Jenkins for the corrected props. He absolutely didn't have to do this, but came through for us, regardless.:salute::

-Moe

Moe, I certainly agree, but then that's the kind of gentleman John is. Not very many manufacturers would make post-production corrections and then provide them at no charge to their collectors. One of the many reasons why I keep coming back to drink at his well . . . .

Thanks. Before the year is over the decks of my Bunker Hill display will be full of activity. We are hunkering down here for a severely cold blast of arctic air. Ambient air temperatures for tomorrow and Thursday are going to be between -25F and -35F with wind temps from -40F to -55F. Talk about a DEEP FREEZE. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

First off, Mike, stay safe with those cold temps and wind chills … sounds pretty dangerous {sm2}
Compared to you guys we are going to be balmy with temps in the low teens to higher 20's with a snow/rain mix.

<><><><>

You have an incredible display and collection there young man …. really impressive.
John is one top shelf kinda' guy to go to such effort to correct a "minor" mistake (IMHO) and do it for free … :salute::

My F4F-3 (ACE-215) should be here shortly to go along with the first two Corsairs (BH-01) / BH-02 and the first two F4F-3's (SARA-01) / (Sara-02)

Still looking forward to adding the last Corsair (BH-03) but in the mean while I will have to view yours with envy. :p

Then maybe I will "attempt" to try to come up to your standards with a display of my own … but a high bar to leap over …!!!!

John's added deck crew will be real treat. As I mentioned before, 2019 is going to be a fun and exciting years for us WWII Navy collectors.

Thank you LaRRy for the kind thoughts. You seem to be on a roll too with all of the "birds" you have and/or are expecting in your collection. I am sure that you have the where with all and skill to leap over any bar that's set before you. Here's to 2019 . . .

Obvious that WB and JJD work together but not with KC and Figarti. Size difference is very noticeable. -- Al

NEW RELEASES FOR JANUARY 2019
THE SECOND WORLD WAR
AIRCRAFT CARRIERS

The Vought F4U Corsair is an American fighter aircraft that saw service primarily in World War 2 and the Korean War.
The Corsair was designed as a carrier based aircraft. Initially its difficulty in landing on carriers, rendered it unsuitable for Navy use until the Royal Navy overcame the landing issues.
After the carrier landing issues had been tackled, it quickly became the most capable carrier based fighter bomber of the Second World War.

USS Bunker Hill (CV/CVA/CVS-17, AVT-9) was one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers built during World War II for the United States Navy. The ship was named for the Battle of Bunker Hill in the American Revolutionary War. Commissioned in May 1943 and sent to the Pacific Theater of Operations, the ship participated in battles in the Southwest Pacific, Central Pacific and the drive toward Japan through Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and air raids on the Japanese homeland.
While covering the invasion of Okinawa, Bunker Hill was struck by two kamikazes in quick succession, setting the vessel on fire. Casualties exceeded 600, including 346 confirmed dead and an additional 43 missing, the second heaviest personnel losses suffered by any carrier to survive the war after Franklin. After the attack, Bunker Hill returned to the U.S. mainland and was still under repair when hostilities ended.
After the war, Bunker Hill was employed as a troop transport bringing American service members back from the Pacific, and decommissioned in 1947. While in reserve the vessel was reclassified as an attack carrier (CVA), then an antisubmarine carrier (CVS) and finally an Auxiliary Aircraft Landing Training Ship (AVT) but was never modernized and never saw active service again. Bunker Hill and Franklin were the only Essex-class ships never recommissioned after World War II

Fighter Squadron 84 or VF-84 was an aviation unit of the United States Navy. Originally established on 1 May 1944, it was disestablished on 8 October 1945. It was the first US Navy squadron to be designated as VF-84.

VF-84 flew F4U Corsairs and was formed around a nucleus of veterans of VF-17, the Jolly Rogers. The new squadron's commanding officer was Lt. Cdr. Roger R.Hedrick, former executive officer of VF-17.
VF-84 was assigned to the USS Bunker Hill. As part of Task Force 58, the carrier and Carrier Air Group 84 (CVG-84) participated in the final drive across the central Pacific. Roger Hedrick was promoted to head CVG-84 on the combat loss of the air group's commanding officer, and Lt. Cdr. Raymond "Ted" Hill took over the fighter squadron.
VF-84 took part in the invasion of Iwo Jima; raids on Tokyo and other targets in Japan; the discovery and sinking of the Japanese battleship Yamato and support of the invasion of Okinawa, including combat air patrol over the invasion fleet to defend against Kamikaze attack, ground support, and combat air patrol over targets on Okinawa.
On 11 May 1945, while off Okinawa, two Japanese kamikazes struck the Bunker Hill in quick succession, with a bomb penetrating to the pilots' ready room, killing 22 members of VF-84. Both the Bunker Hill (then the TF-58 flagship) and CAG-84 were knocked out of the war. Although VF-84 was reformed in July 1945 as an F6F Hellcat squadron, the war ended while it was still in training. While in the Pacific, VF-84 was credited with 92 kills for a loss of 4 aircraft and nine of the squadron's pilots became aces.

I just received one of these magnificent Corsairs, and again, John is hitting new heights in the hobby!^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool What a warbird!!:salute::

... Those Landing Decks are Awesome too... JJD became my number one/ First one to look and buy from each month... And for what this corsair can do, other manufacturers will add $$$ more for them to make it.. We really are lucky that we have John Jenkins Designs in this hobby!!... Just wishing that they would make more Landing Decks..... It seems that we have more planes, than the Decks can Handle:wink2:...

I am hoping that John will consider a second run … OR … take pre-orders and make the number that is requested.
They are scarcer than honest politicians …

The deck really set the planes in a prefect setting.

..They made a second run of the Corsairs, And added a third one..And pretty much any BH coded piece are getting Scarcer, and with the Landing Deck Pieces except for the BH-200, it is near impossible to find. They should do a second run on the landing decks, and if they are apprehensive about making too many, they should let the dealers do some orders and have it paid up front, and make only the amount that was ordered and paid for. So no excess inventory.. Win Win, for everybody..

I am glad I took the financial plunge when I did and was able to collect BH-100 x 3, BH-200 x 3, and BH-300 x 3 when they were available.

:smile2: Mike
