When Myszka and I visited John and his wife Susanna in Hong Kong over Easter, we had the privilege of John and his wife showing us the sights and sounds of Hong Kong. One of the best trips next to visiting King and Country's museum, was the visit on the Wednesday to Santa's Grotto aka John Jenkins workshop. Where we had the opportunity to view not only these releases but also all the future upcoming releases. Having seen these live, I assure you the photo's do not do them justice, they are magnificent, and better than anything produced to date. The new Grenadiers and scalping set are simply magnificent. His future releases, at least the ones we saw are also incredible, and I can promise you the best is still to come. In our newsletter we will have pictures of the visit to Santa's Workshop.

Hope you enjoy the new releases as much as I do. We will have them on our web site later on today.

BATTLE ON THE MONONGAHELA 1755
The first new set for May, are three defending Grenadiers of the 44th Regiment of foot. The bayonet was a relatively new weapon for the British infantryman, and the drill for defending with the bayonet was still related to how the Pike was previously used. This set is the perfect companion to the previously released WIM-07 Attacking woodland Indians set.

BATTLE ON SNOWSHOES
Rogers’ force initially waited patiently in ambush. An enemy party of around 96 men, mostly Indians, advanced along afrozen stream into the sights of the hidden Rangers. On a given signal the Rangers rose out of their cover and blasted a volley into the column of unsuspecting Indians.
According to Roger’s journal they killed “above forty Indians”.
Half of the Rangers continued to pursue the fleeing survivors of the ambush.
The rest of the Rangers including Rogers himself remained behind to scalp the dead and dying.

Unfortunately the enemy party had turned out to be just the advance guard of a force of over 200 additional French and Indians. The Battle On Snowshoes, Rogers was about to realize had only just begun.

The new “BOS” set for May depicts one of the Rangers about to collect his scalp from a wounded Indian, but out of the corner of his eye is distracted by……

THE BATTLE OF CHIPPEWA July 5th 1814
Except in the area of small arms fire, American and British drill differed little during this period
The U.S. army was the only fighting force of the day which had its soldiers aim their weapons and fire in their own time. So distinct was the different firing methods that at the earlier Battle of Crysler’s Farm, the family hiding in the farmer’s basement could distinguish the Americans’ irregular “pop, pop, pop” from the regular volleys of fire from the British army, which sounded “like a tremendous roll of thunder”.
This month’s releases of 4 figures in different stages of loading, will allow that extra variety to be added to the look of the U.S. firing line.

Excellent looking set of 44th Grenadiers...I was hoping to see those soon. We have seen glimpses of them on the JJD website in the past. Thanks for the updates Mike. Already plugged these into the spreadsheet and cannot wait to get those next 2 sets of 1812 figs as well.

Thanks for the great update Mike. I can almost see my stockade finished now. I will be giving you a call to update my preorder on the stockade pieces now that we know what will be available.

Thanks again Mike. Is the new BOS set limited?

Combat, 350 on the Snowshoes set as well. The blockhouse is now completely sold out................

Thanks George. That's a sweet set. Good to see the boys mixing it up a bit.

That's better :) been hanging out for a fix for a couple of weeks now.

Now the only question is 1 set or 10 sets.

I can hear the credit card crying now. :(

Warrior, your comment that the Blockhouse set is sold out, maybe wrong. Email from John today said last batch of Blockhouses will be available end of May 2008. But you maybe right these could be all spoken for by preorders.

From my pov, "the only question is". When are JJ going to make some WWII stuff? :D

I hope never. John has plenty of sets that he can create for the F&I War period including the Seven Year War armies as well as the 1812 war.

How exciting, those grenadiers are going to add a whole different dynamic to my display. I can’t wait!

Maybe the May releases will be a little early, I think that I’m going thru withdraw.

I just placed my order with John for 36 sets. AAAARRRR I needed that fix.

But as you say General BTSherman come last week in April the DT's will start, the hands will start shaking and the walking back and forth will start.

I may have to place another order with one of the dealers for current sets to hold me over.

I have got it bad and loving it. :D

Some people ask how do you afford it (me not being a rich man).

No wife, no kids, own my house and car, do not smoke, do not chase women (can never catch one, they all run faster than me), drink only very little and my biggest experience 2 dogs Labradors. The Black Labrador called Whitie and the White Labrador called Blackie and you think I have problems.

Man does not live by bread alone, he need a toy soldier or 500. ;)

There ends the read for today.
