New Warbirds (1 Viewer)

My prediction comes through the same day! This is a first for me! I swear I had no inside information about a Komet, but did you see Pretorian's post on the Figarti section of the forum: "Don't worry guys, Die Komet ist coming!"

I hope it's a regular piece rather than in the warbirds range.

I would love see K&C make a AD6 USN, A1 USAF ( Skyraider) I know this will not come to pass. Not a WWII bird but an overlooked workhorse. This single engine aircraft could carry a greater bomb load than a B-17 and was a flying tank. It was used during the Korean War and all the way through Vietnam. I really loved flying this aircraft. :)
If you’ve watched the movie “The Longest Day” the very brief shot of the aircraft coming in over the Normandy beach were Skyraiders not P-47’s.

What an incredible beast those things were; certainly a favorite with downed airmen and troops on the ground. They gave new meaning to ground support and fire suppression. One of the better know movie appearances of the Skyraider, in its own identity, was in the 1990 movie Flight of the Intruder in their popular "Sandy" air rescue escort role. Where and when did you fly these?

Andy has made one post-WWII plane since the re-launch of warbirds, a one of a kind F86 Sabre Jet in Korean War USAF markings. It is one of my favorites. I would also love a Skyraider, or an F4 Phantom or Intruder. We can always hope!

Outstanding - Great News !

Lets hope he has the same plan for some World War I Aircraft ! :D

Doug,

When you get yours, put it through its paces and let us know:D

Could you aeronautical guys perhpas post a picture of the Komet. The only Comet I know is those British made passenger planes that unfortunatley got metal fatigue and crashed in the 1950's.

Damian

Sure, here's one. It looked like a pregnant boomerang, with a rudder

Hi Baron,

That is absolutely one of the most graphic descriptions of the Komet I have ever encountered! :D:D:D However, it does seem to fit the picture.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

The red Spate version seems popular among modelers - but I hope KC goes with a more standard version:

The most famous Komet must surely be the red Komet in which EK16 commander Wolfgang Späte flew the first operational mission with a Komet. Without his knowledge, the ground crew painted his aircraft bright red, similar to Von Richthofen's red aircraft in WW1. Apparently confidence in the Komet's invulnerability was high! According to his own accounts, Späte was not amused, and ordered the paint to be removed after the flight.

Why should K and C be able to make this in polystone but not anything else.

I'm hoping they can keep it in the $200 range - so my guess is that means polystone.

I'm pretty sure this is in polystone. I think we would have heard if they were in wood.

Oh man oh man oh man!!! I am so glad I pre-ordered one of those Mossies!:D

Cheers Forum Squadron Members:

Posted below are some links for the pictured King & Country dh98 Mosquito (RR299 / HT-E) TIII 51OTU/1FU/ME/204AFS/FTU/HCEU/FCCS/3-4CAACU G-ASKH which crashed during an air show at Barton 07.21.96. You may have seen her in the films "633 Squadron" or "Mosquito Squadron". It was not a WW II RAF combat kite! I was lucky enough to see it fly before her crash in the UK. If you need any more information on her, please let me know-or any other Dh98 or Beaufighter kite.

Beaufighter,

Thanks for the link to the photos. You really are lucky to ahve seen that beauty fly! The Mosquito really is one of my all time favorite aircraft, right up there with the F86 Sabre, the P51D Mustang and the the Spitfire as both beautiful and successful Warbirds!

Cheers Louis:

You are more than welcome! Please enjoy & feel free to ask if you need more information as I love the research & subsequent history.

Tally Ho,
