Nfl 2012-2013 (2 Viewers)

Personal opinion is the Saints should sit out the entire year due to the blatant egregious behavior displayed even after being warned by the NFL. Now that would not happen, but it should. If all of the details are true and apparently they are, it is about the worst open display of lack of sportsmanship ever in the history of the NFL. I don't compare the meanness/dirtyness of the 1970s as there were different rules in vogue back then - clothesline tackle, eye gouging etc.

No one will ever dispute the fact that when most players suit up, the are not going to war or they are not going to take a shot if the opportunity presents itself for big hit, but most of them are playing the game to maximum effort possible. The idea of paying someone a bonus for knocking Brett Favre out of a game is just ridiculous. As far as I am concerned, I hope the Saints get the crap kicked out of them week in and week out this year, that would be fitting justice. I also think that anyone who hires Greg Williams needs to seriously look themselves in the mirror and then go a different course. There are plenty of honest coaches out there who are just as good. Payton, his lack of acton was a character flaw, hopefully he will grow from it. As for the owners, jeez, if they were really in the dark, I would fire everyone involved and be just about as po'd as possible, they get a bum rap out of the rogue actions of a few.

My final opinion, if you can ban a player for life for repeated recreational drug use (Dexter Manley), then you certainly should throw them out for openly and blatantly trying to end someone's career.

I think the signing of Tebow by the Jets is simply brilliant. My loathing for anything Jets knows no bounds and this will surely lead to total castrophe. Nearly everything about this makes me happy :smile2::smile2::smile2:

The major downside of all this is the New York sports radio stations are nearly impossible to listen to at the moment ---- they all have been tebowized. Seriously, I am already praying for a few non-tebow days.

I still think there is a possibility this could work out. If they use Tebow right, as a kind of limited wildcat QB on short yardage downs, and they can avoid a QB controversy with Sanchez it could give opponents fits. It has to be the right mix though with both Sanchez and Tebow willing to share playing time. And not a year long debate about which should be starter.

As I've mentioned earlier in this thread, I've suffered bad Jet decisions for a long time. I will hold my powder, and wait and watch. Maybe, just maybe, this works.{sm2}

I agree with everything you said...except about Payton...he knew...and he did nothing...as the head coach...he was the final word with all his subordinates...his punishment was too light for me...by the way...they are appealing with Goddell...this week...I hope he throws the book at him for more than a year...no place in sports for this type of activity...the Bountygate Scandal is an embarrassment to the league and all sports...professional or amateur...

Mike,

Did you see the video released today of the former defensive coordinator's speech before the Saints-49ers playoff game? It is pretty egregious. It shows the Saints D-coordinator asking his players to take out Alex Smith's head, to hit it while they are in the pile after a play, to go after the head of a 49ers' wide-receiver who had recently suffered a concussion, and go after Crabtree's injured achilles tendon. While discussing injuring these players, he actually rubs his thumb and forefingers together (in the universal sign for money) while saying "the first one's on me." I have not been taking this as seriously as you or Tom, but after this idiot let himself be videotaped by a documentary film maker saying this after the league had warned the Saints about it several times, I am beginning to agree with you that this guy has stepped way over the line.

Louis...

I read some of the excerpts on Yahoo Sports this morning...if you find time...please send me the link to the video...I would like to see Williams say what he said and how animated he was when he said it...I would also like to see the reaction of the players...

you know...and I know...this has been going on to some degree in sports forever...all sports...weakness's and injuries were always exploited or targeted as part of a game plan...both on offense and defense...

if a defense knew an opposing quarterback was gimpy legged that game...they would take advantage of it...a heavier pass rush...force him outside to run...maybe even go at his knees to take him out of the game...

if an offense knew a corner back was a step slower because of last weeks injury...they would target him as the one to throw against...

remember when Romo cracked his ribs and they played Washington...this is what DeAngelo Hall said before the game...

"I want to get a chance to put my helmet on whatever's hurt," Hall told the Washington Post. "Romo's ribs -- I'm going to be asking for some corner blitzes. If I know Felix Jones' shoulder's hurt, I'm not going to cut him. I'm definitely going to try to hit him up high, so that's just part of it.
"If you know somethings wrong with an opponent, you're going to try to target in on that. We're going to try to definitely get as many hats on that team as possible."

what we all find offensive is the public declaration of cash for injuries...it's just insulting to the integrity of the game...money for injuries...it's a terrible incentive...barbaric...and the weird thing is...$1,000 for a head hit is literally chump change to these guys...

I don't understand why the players that participated in this are being excluded from scrutiny or reprimand...why do they get a "get out of jail free card"...Goddell should penalize each and every one of them that willingly participated or collected bounties...

Payton...Loomis and Vitt...all asked for leniency today...their appeals were heard...I hope they are denied...Payton and Loomis especially...Vitt is a pawn to me...but when management and the head coach condone this...they should fry...

Payton and Loomis should be accountable...

the punishment...the loss of the draft picks...the fine...and getting stuck with Tuna is a start...

can you imagine the legal implications to the league and the NFL if someone actually got hurt bad over this...

I may boycott Margaritas over Buffet's t-shirt...

I had been wondering if the players that participated in this would be penalized...

this came out today after the appeals were denied...

"The NFL has said as many as 27 players also could be sanctioned in the scandal, but it is not yet clear when that might happen, creating additional uncertainty for New Orleans and some teams that have signed former Saints defensive regulars as they tried to build their 2012 rosters.

Suspensions could be coming for players—Goodell set a precedent last season when he suspended Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh for two games for stomping on an opponent, and Steelers linebacker James Harrison one game for a flagrant tackle that gave Browns quarterback Colt McCoy a concussion."

Another sad shakedown going on by the NFL in Minnesota. They are demanding nearly $600 million from the taxpayers for a new stadium to keep the team:

Two days after a Minnesota House committee voted against the Vikings' stadium bill, the NFL responded with its own strong message to state leaders: Get it done or face the consequences.

The proposal that fell in the House committee on Monday would have split the tab three ways for a stadium proposed to be built at the current Metrodome site: $398 million from the state from taxes on expanded gambling, $150 million from the city of Minneapolis from existing sales taxes and $427 million from the Vikings with assistance likely from the NFL.

Really wish they would allow community owned and managed teams like the Packers (full disclosure, I am a shareholder and season ticket holder). Hate to see the NFL as a fiscal bully. Love to hate the Vikings and need them as our cross border rival!

Ssshh, Not so loud Billy, I think the owners of this website maybe Viking fans :)...Sammy

Man, my Ravens got a tough schedule:(...playing..Pats/Texans/Chargers/Giants/Broncos (skins that's not a bad thing ha!) plus the usual AFC North guys twice, and that's playing Pittsburgh twice in 3 weeks:mad:.. it's a great thing to win the division but man do you pay for it the following year!! oh well, I guess to be the best you got to beat the best...Sammy

Trust me...we have days of loving to hate the Vikings too!

It's all just posturing on the stadium...a deal will get done...

I still love the 'ol days of Bud Grant and the boys out in the freezing/snowy weather, (of course I wasn't sitting in those stands either:)) those are Viking memories I have, not the paper bag ceiling stadiums of the day...Sammy

Not sure how the Pack garnered the second easiest schedule this year, but i won't look a gift horse in the mouth!

I feel your pain. The Giants also have an insane schedule. Like you said, to be the best you have to beat the best. In a way, though, that's why I hate divisional play. Why not have everybody in the NFC play one game everybody else in the NFC, and everybody in the AFC play one game against everybody else in the AFC, with each team playing one team from the opposite conference (so everybody in each conference plays 15 of the 16 games against the same opponent as everybody else in the conference - a virtually equal and balanced schedule)? You would have the best 6 teams in each conference make the playoffs, with the two best records getting buys, the 3rd best record hosting the 6th best record and the 4th best record hosting the 5th best record in the first round, then the best record hosting the lowest remaining record, and the second best record hosting the next lowest remaining record, etc.

Right now, the best team in the AFC East (Patriots), the AFC South (Texans), the AFC West (Broncos), and the NFC West (49ers) have ridiculously easy paths to the playoffs, while the teams in the NFC East, AFC North, and NFC North face insanely tough division schedules. I would love to see how the Giants or the Ravens would do replacing the Patriots or Broncos and playing two games each against the other teams in the AFC West or AFC East.

If anyone wants to see a good old fashioned cold and snowy game up in Lambeau, just let me know!

It all evens out in the end, not to mention the way the NFL has been the past several years, how good a team is one year has almost no impact on how they do the following year, it's so up and down with free agency.

Look at Denver; 8-8 and they won the division with Tebow as their QB, now that they have Manning, who knows, they could go 12-4 and be the #1 seed in the AFC.

Or the Colts; 2-14 last year, with Luck as their QB and a last place schedule, they could go 14-2 this year.

I don't see how the Patriots schedule is so easy as they play Seattle in Seattle, the 49ers, Denver with Manning as the QB, Houston, the Ravens in Baltimore, not to mention the Bills twice who are much improved on the D line, the Jets twice, one of which is a Thanksgiving night game in New York (maybe fatso will doze off due to him eating an entire turkey earlier in the day) and the Dolphins, who always play the Patriots tough...............

You can put my name down on that list!!! I may live in Arizona but I live for the cold and snowy weather!!! matter a fact as soon as my son graduates high school (only 4 years) off to Colorado we go!!! I so miss my 20's 30's temps from back East during winter, I'll never be use to hanging Xmas light up in shorts, but back to the post, there is nothing compared to a cold/snowy football game, the colder the better:)...Sammy
