And concerning this comment; keep in mind the Boston media continually throws anything and everything New York in our faces, they remind us constantly about the whole Boston/NY thing.

Not to mention, the two worst loses in Patriots history come courtesy of the Giants and the three worst in Red Sox history come courtesy of the Mets and Yankees (1986, 1978, 2003). The Yankees are our biggest baseball rival, the Jets our biggest football rival.

In the 1970's, the Knicks and Rangers were the two biggest rivals of the Celtics and Bruins; they both went in the toilet for the most part since, but again, Boston writers constantly remind us of the rivalries, so there you go........................

I wish we had those types of regional rivalries in the Bay Area, all we really have is the Giants/Dodgers.

Nothing wrong with that particular rivalry, even if it is transplanted from NYC. Personally, I'm a Giants man, a huge fan of the 1960's era teams with the likes of Marichal, Mays, McCovey, the Alous, Cepeda, Dietz, Perry, McCormick, etc. Great teams doomed to spin their wheels in second place. Boy, I loved those teams and following the west coast teams from the east coast sure wasn't easy back then.:wink2: These should be transferred to the baseball thread. -- Al

Al:

Yup, lots of Giant history but nothing like that with the 49ers.

That is kind of my point, the 9ers have no regional rival anymore. And to be honest, even when LA had the Rams there really was not much of a rivalry. I am envious of the Giants and Jets constantly battling it out with the Pats and vice versa.

I can't help it if the Boston media has some inferiority complex about New York.

The Yankees Red Sox and Knicks Celtics are real rivalries but the football rivalry is not really there. I understand bring ticked off about losing two SBs to the Giants but there wasn't really a Jets Pats rivalry until Rex came along and it's not really a rivalry. Jets traditional rivals have been the Dolphins.

The sputtering Redskins blew a 10 point 4th quarter lead but managed to win in overtime, thanks to a great defensive stand at the end of regulation and the Chargers inability to stop the running game. In regulation, the Chargers had a 1st and goal at the Redskins 2 ft. line, with under a minute to go, trailing by 3. Chargers couldn't get the ball in and had to settle for a game tying FG. Redskins won the OT coin toss, took the ball and marched down for the win. A great finish considering the Chargers only had to go 2 ft., and couldn't do it. ^&cool -- Al

Ravens lose again, to the Browns at that, 3-5, not much to say as the record says it all...Sammy

Jets D looked awesome today as did the running attack in pulling the upset of the Saints but 8 for 19 passing ain't going to cut it. However, nobody could have expected a winning record at this point.

Heck, I thought they'd win five games all year.

Considering they have winnable games against the Bills, Ravens, Browns and Raiders they could have a wining season.

I'm certainly disappointed in the Raven's season so far, but I'm not surprised by it. The Ravens lost so many members of last year's SB team that this kind of down year was to be expected. And Flacco is not Manning or Brady. He is a good Qb but he needs help and without a running game and only 1 or 2 decent receivers, the help just isn't there. -- Al

I thought this an impressive win. The Saints are not also-rans. -- Al

How long have you been a Jets fan?

I got Patriots season tickets back in the early 1980's and for a good chunk of the mid to late 1980's, Patriots/Jets was the second biggest rivalry, behind Patriots/Dolphins.

We went to New York and beat the Jets in the wildcard game on the way to our first trip to the Super Bowl, I was at that game, the rivalry was incredibly intense.

When Parcells made the deal to go coach the Jets prior to the Super Bowl vs the Packers and mailed in his effort in that game, then signed free agent Curtis Martin, Parcells himself called it the boarder war.

Then when Belichick bailed on the Jets and came here, it amped up even more.

Rex has throw gasoline of the fire since he got to New York.

Go read Jets Insider or Gang Green, the Patriots hate is at an all time high on those Jets message boards.

The play of the day yesterday was that TD run by Adrian Peterson.

Without my Niners playing it was actauly fun to catch up on watching some other teams play.

Me either.

They paid a kings ransom to resign Flacco, just their @#$% luck he played out of his mind on a Super Bowl run in a contract year, so they had to pay a fortune to keep the guy, which meant they had to trim away a lot of the talent around him, aka, that boneheaded salary dump Boldin trade and the players on defense they had to unload as they couldn't pay them either.

And no, he's not Brady.

And no, he's not Manning.

And yes, he's getting paid a ton of money to be not as good as either of them.

Another example of a Super Bowl winner falling flat on it's face the following year.

Yup, nice win by the Bears. If Rodgers is out for an extended period of time they will have a good chance to win the division. Plus they will get Cutler back soon (who is actually one of my favorite players in the NFL).

Just read about this so called "bullying" in the NFL with Miami.
Really don,t know what to think in as much a 300 pound NFL lineman can be bullied? Rookie intimidation yes, part of the game.
The guy suspended Ingognito was with the Rams and was forced out as he was always getting in some sort of trouble. So that part fits.

Is it me or is the NFL B-O-R-I-N-g this year? The number of top flight players going down to injuries is getting horrific and speaking of horrific, the drop off in play at the QB position once the starter goes out is incredible.

I can't believe that there are only 32 quality QB's on the planet as the back ups for most teams basically suck, as do some of the starters as a matter of fact.

So far, this season is a cure for insomnia.

George:

I agree 100%. On top of all of that, this monotony comes at a time when the NFL really needs to step up and bring the focus back on the game itself. From Aaron Hernandez to the hazing in Miami and all the concussion talk in-between the NFL is getting headlines for all the wrong reasons.

There have been a lot of injuries and the usual off field news but boring is it not. The quality of QB's is not high. It seems to drastically fall off after the first 15 teams or so but is they different than most years? Maybe not.

Concussions are an important issue, as is safety. That will not go away.

Tonight's matchup is a real great one: Skins v. Vikings :rolleyes2:

I don't know why the NFL insists on this ridiculous Thursday night game schedule. It really hurts the teams involved and I'm sure the ratings are pretty low as not many people even get the NFL cable channel. I get the channel, yet I rarely remember that there is a game on so I hardly have ever watched a Thursday night game. I will catch the Redskins game tonight but it's being shown on local TV anyway. -- Al
