Excessive pushing?

Apparently this going to be a point of emphasis this year.

AND, this is THE first time they've called a penalty on this.

So they choose an overtime game to do it, directly affecting the outcome of a game.

The Jets did the exact same thing on the game tying field goal, but it was not called a penalty.

Naturally.

What a complete and utter farce the NFL is, they've got a license to print money and it's just pathetic on a number of levels how badly the sport has deteriorated.

So today in overtime, Jets vs Patriots, the Jets try a field goal from four miles out, no good, Patriots get the ball almost at midfield.

HOLD ON, WAIT.

Penalty vs New England, 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct, excessive pushing.

Yep, excessive pushing on the field goal attempt.

Jets keep the ball, kick a field goal and fatso and the Jets get the win.

With each and every passing week, I am becoming less and less of a fan of the NFL.

Excessive pushing.

Normally this would annoy me, but after last night, to be frank, I could give a @#$% less.
The wussification of the NFL continues unabated. I say they should just stop pretending, take the pads off, put on the flags, and be done with it. Excessive pushing, excessive hugging, whatever...:rolleyes2: -- Al

Next they will limit passes to 25 yards. Anything beyond that will be excessive pass yardage attempting.

Oh well, I got to face facts my Ravens will be lucky to reach 8-8 at this rate, no running game, another up and down season for flacco, defense has stepped up and played better but just do not have the players as in years past. Bye next week then the last 5 out of 8 games at home but thinking our 5 playoff run is coming to a end...Sammy

Have to give Rex credit, he really gets his rocks off over beating the Patriots, the guy lives and breathes beating them, it's his white whale, not to mention his players are all in on it, they continually run their mouths over their contempt toward the Patriots, he is the master motivator as far as getting the Jets amped up to beat the Patriots in their 2 match ups per year.

It's the other 14 he and the Jets need to work on..........:rolleyes2:

I agree with you on That idiot Ryan, I thought he was going to throw a camera man to the ground so he had plenty of room to give for Bill to shake his hand, some how if the jets had lost he wouldn't have been so excited to cross the field, I would say 'come on Rexy act like you been there, but then again??...Sammy

I can't figure Flacco out. It's like he doesn't wake up to play until sometime in the 3rd quarter. With the rules the way they are today, a team cannot give the ball to the opponent with anytime left on the clock and expect to win if it is a close game. No one seems to play defense anymore, or at least the rules keep defenses from doing the job. -- Al

Al:

I think the latter is true. The game is so geared towards offense any questionable calls or non-calls are pretty much going to go against the defense. You couple that with the protective halo around the QB and you’ve get a recipe for lots of first downs and second chances all caused by penalties which will inevitably lead to scoring.

The rule infraction they called at the end of the Jets game was not an old or obscure rule but a brand new rule. Apparently, at the end of last year, the long snapper for the Redskins brought the situation to the attention of the Competition Committee and the players supported its adoption. The CBS football crew speculated that the Jets coaches brought this to the attention of the officials before or during the game so the refs were looking for it.

At at any rate, there are no bad wins in the NFL and it's about time the Jets got a break. I'm sure every team will be paying more attention to this rule.

It's all about scoring, the NFL assumes the average fan is some hayseed who's dead from the neck up and all we care about is seeing touchdowns.

With all the rules changes, they've basically ruined the sport.

Can you imagine the scenario that would have ensued if the shoe was on the other foot, ie, BB was the one who pointed it out to the refs, they called it against the Jets and the Patriots were handed the game; they would have burned the stadium down and today, Jets message boards would have blown up over the fact that the Patriots cheated again, BB is a rat, the Patriots are cheaters, blah, blah, blah.......

I guess it's a great move based on which side of the fence you're standing on.

I'm sure NFL fans across the league are dancing in the streets that this happened to the Patriots, the team everyone loves to hate.

When Brady and BB retire and they go in the tank, everyone will finally leave the Patriots alone and find a new team to hate.

Come on, George. The Patriots are way down on my 'hate' list. Green Bay, Dallas, Oakland, Indy, and the SBIII Jets lead the pack. Coincidently, all of those teams had something to do with the BALTIMORE Colts or the Washington Redskins. Patriots only come into the discussion because of jealousy over their continued success. Rooting against so many teams on a weekly basis can be exhausting.:wink2: -- Al

Understood and I never viewed you as a Patriots hater and it's ok for others to hate because as you pointed out, the majority of those that do are jealous over their success.

Thirteen years in a row without a losing record, missed the playoffs twice in that run, one time as a result of Brady being out for the year, they barely missed that year as it was.

Success like that will annoy a lot of people, that's for sure.

I agree it's a stupid rule but, hey, a rule's a rule and, of course, it all depends whose ox is getting gored. Let's not forget that the Patriots dynasty got started with the tuck rule.

Fans of any team that gets hit with this rule are going to complain.

I don't think anyone "hates" the Patriots. It's not like Giants v Cowboys or Cowboys v Redskins. It's more like Al said jealousy, a desire to have something approaching their record of accomplishment and so forth.

When you beat a team as good as they are (even though they've been slowed down by some major injuries), you feel good.

It was just a good win for a team who people thought might win five or six games. They're a team that's getting better but because the QB is a rookie who makes rookie mistakes they will have their ups and downs. Good against Atlanta, bad against the Steelers and good against the Patriots. Next up are the Bengals so who knows what will happen.

Mike Francesa of WFAN in NY, who generally has contempt for the Jets (which is reciprocated; they won't give him any guests even though his program is the number one sports show in the NY market) made a few good points about yesterday's game and the "call."

Until yesterday this rule had never been invoked in any game this year; the Jets can never claim again they never get any breaks because they got a big one yesterday; Pats fans can't whine about the call because of the tuck call against the Raiders (he thought Al Davis was probably smiling about yesterday's call); and Brady was off on several of his passes yesterday, any of which had they been caught might have won the game for the Pats.

Since Francesa basically hates the Jets, Jets fans are calling in, trying to get on his case. It's pretty comical to listen to the exchanges.

Nope, never been invoked in any game this year AND it was stated it would be a point of emphasis this week; so these chose an overtime game to make it a point of emphasis.

That's just brilliant.

And today, someone has frame by frame shots of the field goal attempt by the Patriots late in the game to tie it; on the play, the Jets did the exact same thing.

And it wasn't called.

Imagine for a second if it was, the Patriots got the call and the 15 yards and Brady threw a touchdown pass to win the game.

Those Jets fans would have burned down the stadium.

Whatever, I'm done with this, I've got a World Series to get ready for.................

I had to go out for a meeting and on the way there listened to Francesa talk to Mike Pereira, former head of officiating, and he said this has been a rule they've been trying to put in for six years. He also mentioned that the Pats have been doing this and had been warned not to do it anymore but did it anyway and got flagged.

Steeler week!!!!! Which to me is the circle the date on the calendar week!! If my Ravens can win in Pittsburg this week we will be fine, lose this one and it will be time to push the alarm, always a good hard hitting game with no love for each other, respect yes, rivalry **** strait!!...Sammy

Sammy,
wow, what a game, happy to be on this end of it, GO STEELERS! Seriously I want to make it to 8 and 8, still not sure we can get there, but it is hard to believe we could have the same record at this point in the season if we can beat Oakland next week. I wouldn not have thought it possible after starting 0 and 4.

TD

It was actually a really interesting week of games and it has been a really unpredictable season so far. Manning lost at Indy, the Chiefs are the only undefeated team left and since they do not play each other there is a distinct possibility that Jacksonville and Tampa Bay could go winless this season.

We bad, we bad, we bad!! 7-0 and the only team left undefeated! GO CHIEFS!!! Could not be more proud!
