This year just goes to show why they play the games. The Jets are 3-2, the Falcons are 1-4, despite a 10 point spread and absolutely nobody giving the Jets any chance at winning in Atlanta. Nobody on sports talk or the networks even thought the Jets would cover the 10 point spread. After all, since the advent of Matt Ryan, the Falcons had never lost two in a row at home, and the Jets rookie QB had looked like a rookie in his last couple of starts.

The Texans (the second most common AFC superbowl pick) are 2-3, and the two most common picks to win the NFC East, which was supposed to be a pretty tough Division, the Red Skins are 1-4, and my Giants' season is already over at 0-5. The NFC East is a whopping 5-15 overall, with the Division leading Cowboys and Eagles leading the way at 2-3. Pathetic.

I saw a statistic in one of the pre-game shows indicating that, with the exception of Seattle, that network's pre-season projected division winners had a .333 winning percentage going into last week's games. This has been a crazy season, and, for me a miserable one. I will be rooting for Denver for the remainder of the year, and hoping the Giants completely fall apart so for once we can get high draft picks and rebuild our pathetic offensive line, running back, cornerback and linebacker corps.

Hopefully the Giants will keep Coughlin and Gilbride, fire the GM, defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, running back coach and offensive line coach, and get some people in those positions that have a clue. I am hoping the Giants can be like the Colts were a couple of years ago: stink up the joint for one season, get what amounts to 2 first round picks (one of the first 2-3 picks in the first and second rounds), snag a couple of top talents for key positions like left tackle and cornerback, grab a big powerful running back at the top of the 3 round, and be a playoff contender again next season.

Last night was one of the worst nights I can remember to be an Atlanta sports fan. Uggh!

If you're going to change the name (a move which I support) then you better make sure you do it for every other team that has an offensive name. If not, don't bother but at the same time, it should be ok to have a team whose name has the "N" word in it, is called the so and so Whites (or Honkies) or the so and so Yids (or Hebrews or Jews) and so forth.

The first pro baseball team in Atlanta was called the "Crackers". That term is now used derogatorily to describe "low class whites". Ive never heard anyone claim they were offended by it, though.

I really dont see how the Braves name is offensive. What about the "Warriors"? The "Rangers"? The "Patriots"? The "Volunteers"? The "Mountaineers"? The "Knights"? If sports names are an offensive usage, then shouldnt all human references be disallowed?

The discussion is probably around names that go directly to race, such as Redskins or Indians. If a ranking is down of names that are most offensive, bothersome, what have you, I would think those two would be up there while Braves, Seminoles, etc. would be somewhat lower. The other names you mentioned don't refer to racial characteristics. At any rate, I don't think this is the thread for that kind of discussion.

If you look at Ryan's stats, he actually had a good night and the Falcons didn't play badly, the Jets just played a little better.

The Jets are actually where most expected them to be. However, most expected them to beat the Titans and get drubbed by the Falcons, instead of the way it happened.

Good point Brad. I did like what Steve Young said after the game when they mentioned Ryan's stats, he said he had a great game but he doesn't play defense. Plus that is two games in a row that Atlanta passed on a field goal and were stopped without getting the TD.

The way I see it, the Pats have been the class of the AFC for quite awhile. If the Jets beat them then I will be a believer.

The Braves also lost, closing out their 2013 season after the first round of playoffs. Thus, a horrid night for Atlanta sports fans.

If no Indians, then no Cowboys, I suppose.

Yes, it was a tough night for Atlanta. I thought the Braves had the game. Is there any second guessing about not bringing in the closer for a two inning save?

Just heard that Jones is out for the year. That is a very tough loss.

I havent listened to sports media today because I really dont desire a rehashing of last nights "horror". Im sure there is ample second guessing.

News reports say Jones MAY be out for season. If he is that will make 2013 a very arduous journey indeed. Well, Falcons have lacked good spots in the draft for years...

Focus now turns fully to the Dawgs probably. They could have a really great season. Ga Tech not so much (based on what Ive seen in person)

The Vikings may need to change their name and mascot as it could be considered a negative stereotype of Scandinavians. Portraying them as blonde and prone to violence is the last straw. LOL.

As Brad mentioned in his post, change one name and where do you stop? Some who find Redskin offensive will also find the equally derogatory nickname Chief offensive. And what about bird lovers? Several teams have birds as mascots and who wants their favorite bird associated with the violence of football? Will some people suffer post-traumatic stress from such nicknames as Raiders or Buccaneers, or the previously mentioned Vikings? And what about them Saints? What about the separation of church and football? And lord knows what will happen when PETA becomes aware of all the endangered species that now represent violent football teams. Oh, the horror. I'm telling you all, this is a snowball on a downhill slope, and out of control.:rolleyes2: -- Al
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Jets and their direct lineage to gang warfare. Just ask Maria.

Anyone see the point spread on the Denver-Jacksonville game? Denver by a whisker at 28 points.{eek3} -- Al

Hey everybody! Been covered up lately with returning from vacation and going back to work. But how about my KC Chiefs! 5-0. One of the only three undefeated teams left! GO CHIEFS!

Mike:

Everyone talks about all the NFL surprises like the 0-5 Giants. I think the Chiefs deserve just as much attention in a positive way.

They basically brought in a new QB, a new head coach and rookies/free agents and jelled in one off season. That is really impressive and worth a tip of the cap.

So in tonights Giants/Bears game, Eli throws a boneheaded INT that almost gets run back for a TD.

The New York Football Giants all world defense holds on fourth down.

And Eli comes out and redeems himself.

By throwing a pic six.

Awesome, way to get it right you hayseed.

Thanks Jason. It is a good feeling when the Chiefs have been down so long. If they could even make it to the AFC playoff game that would be enough for me! I hope they can keep it up but I am prepared for a loss. It has been a long hard life since 1969 as a Chiefs fan.

But once in the Red Zone always in the Red Zone.

Give me my day in the sun! It might not be long. Arrowhead Mike.

Well at least the Giants are trying to stay in this one early, early being the key word...sammy

My Ravens need a solid game on defense tommorow if they plan on beating Rodgers and the Packers, last time they faced a top rated qb the defense got burned for 7 touchdowns:mad: also going to need Flacco/Rice to have a good game if we are to win this one, let'a go Ravens!!!!!!..Sammy
