This year just goes to show why they play the games. The Jets are 3-2, the Falcons are 1-4, despite a 10 point spread and absolutely nobody giving the Jets any chance at winning in Atlanta. Nobody on sports talk or the networks even thought the Jets would cover the 10 point spread. After all, since the advent of Matt Ryan, the Falcons had never lost two in a row at home, and the Jets rookie QB had looked like a rookie in his last couple of starts.
The Texans (the second most common AFC superbowl pick) are 2-3, and the two most common picks to win the NFC East, which was supposed to be a pretty tough Division, the Red Skins are 1-4, and my Giants' season is already over at 0-5. The NFC East is a whopping 5-15 overall, with the Division leading Cowboys and Eagles leading the way at 2-3. Pathetic.
I saw a statistic in one of the pre-game shows indicating that, with the exception of Seattle, that network's pre-season projected division winners had a .333 winning percentage going into last week's games. This has been a crazy season, and, for me a miserable one. I will be rooting for Denver for the remainder of the year, and hoping the Giants completely fall apart so for once we can get high draft picks and rebuild our pathetic offensive line, running back, cornerback and linebacker corps.
Hopefully the Giants will keep Coughlin and Gilbride, fire the GM, defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, running back coach and offensive line coach, and get some people in those positions that have a clue. I am hoping the Giants can be like the Colts were a couple of years ago: stink up the joint for one season, get what amounts to 2 first round picks (one of the first 2-3 picks in the first and second rounds), snag a couple of top talents for key positions like left tackle and cornerback, grab a big powerful running back at the top of the 3 round, and be a playoff contender again next season.
