Nfl season 2017-2018 (1 Viewer)

My Ravens have done ok, resigned Brandon Williams, Wallace (WR) picked up Woodhead who if can stay healthy can be a good addition, but our best move was Jefferson from the Cards which gives the Ravens the 1st, 5th ranked Safeties in the league, just need to find a another reliable WR, be it in a trade or wait for more cuts from Salary issues for teams that need to make room and MUST find another young pass rusher somewhere down the road.

Houston looking at Hightower from the pats. I don't like this!

I saw that...
pretty bizzare trade huh...
I also read the Browns may cut him??????
they were in it for the picks...

Houston...
that should free up some money if they want him...

Romo has his 3rd child on the way...
he has roots in Dallas...
Houston is really so close that I feel it's his personal choice...

I know he's not popular on this forum...
but I think he could really help that franchise...

they are so good already...
they just need someone to control the ball and the game...
their defense can take over a game...
they just need to...

it would be kind of ironic but satisfying to me in a way...
as a lot of my friends are Texans fans...
and they hate the Cowboys...
I have heard all of them say at least a 100 times...
the Cowboy's biggest problem is Romo...
how much he sucks...
for them to have to root for him if Houston picked him up...
I could laugh at that...
yea...I could really laugh at that...^&grin

Mike:

I respect the heck out of Romo. Ill never forget that comeback win he led against the Niners a few years ago. At San Francisco, playing with broken ribs and a punctured lung he completed a 77-yard pass in overtime to set up Dan Bailey's game-winning field goal.

Are you kidding me?

Best,
Jason

Osweiler was incidental to the trade. What the Texans wanted was his cap space and the only way they could get it through a trade; they couldn't release him as that would have counted against the cap. It was basically a trade for cap space and the Browns have plenty to spare. It's an ingenious move by the Texans but not the smartest move by the Browns. They are not the brightest bulb in the shed. Give the Texans an A for inventiveness. Now they hsve the cap space to sign Romo.

Looks like Barclay is headed to the Niners. If he could harness his INTs he might become decent.

At first I struggled with making any sense of Cleveland's trade for Osweiller...

but maybe it's not so bad...

with pleanty of cap still left for 2017...

they now hold 9 picks...
none lower than 65...
in the next 2 year's drafts...

that's basically 9...
1st and 2nd round picks in the next 2 years...
you can do a whole lot with that...

finishing last year at 1-15...nobody...not even the the most hopeful of Brown's fans...
expects anything from them this year other than it can't get much worse...

Osweiller...still...as Cleveland says...they may release him...
even without trying on a uniform yet...makes no sense to me...especially after releasing Griffin...
why not give him a chance...or at least try to trade him for something...

maybe it's not such a bad deal...I need to see 2 years of drafts to commit to that...

As I mentioned it's purely a cap space deal. I've heard it likened to a NBA type deal. I have also heard that if Denver loses Romo because of the nature of this transaction, they may lodge a complaint with the NFL.

Both the Texans and the Broncos and have pluses and minuses as far as which one Romo might choose.

Denver has had a great recent run in the playoffs but they play in the AFC West where the Chiefs and Raiders are now their equals. The Texans play in the AFC South, arguably the worst division in the NFL. However in 16 seasons the Texans are 3-4 in the playoffs.

Jason...I think Houston would be his first choice...in Texas...close to home...child on the way...indoor stadium...Hopkins as a receiver...awesome defense...all they really need is 17-21 points a game to win...and he's capable of a shoot out if needed...he would be a good fit...as he would in Denver...but I think he's smart enough to keep his mouth shut about favorites...he just wants to be the starter somewhere...

Brad...I had not heard that...was this a rule infraction of some type...if Denver really wants him...they should step up and make an offer...Jones may not release him...both Houston and Denver are waiting for him to be released...to get him at a bargain price...again...they might not release him til preseason if they release him at all...Houston and Denver seem to be waiting each other out...I wish Romo the best...he deserves to play with a decent team...

Speaking of rules violations, I just got back to the Bay Area and sports talk is saying that the Redskins think that the Niners may have tampered with Kirk Cousins and they might ask the league to investigate.

Hey Mike Miller, What's the word on Branden Carr??? I was hoping the Ravens were going to get Claiborne but to much money with to many injuries spoke differently, hopefully Carr can help cure the Ravens passing defense with the addition of Jefferson \Weddle at Safety, Jimmy Smith and Carr at Corners sound much better then last year's rotation.

Sammy...the Ravens got Carr...and you may end up regretting it...hahaha...he had a very unproductive 4 years with Dallas...the best thing you can say about Carr is that his lack of physical contact kept him from any injuries...good or bad...give him credit...he plays every game...his best days are behind him in my opinion...Carr will be the guy that your oppossing teams will target...

Claiborne is just the opposite...moments of brilliance but injury prone...I think he can excel under a better secondary coach...he's very atheltic...I may be wrong...but I thought him and the Jets worked a deal...

as bad as the Dallas secondary and pass rush was...they have lost Carr...Church...Wilcox and Claiborne...they are in must draft mode on cornebacks and safeties...

that's what happens when you overpay on long term salaries with the cap...you just run out of money...

now if the quarterbackless Texans would trade for Romo...that would really help Dallas free up a few dollars...if I were a Texan fan...I would be wondering what are we gonna go with Weeden and Savage at QB...everything I have read is that the draft class on QB's this year is not very good...

Well, let's hope a change of scenery is good for both Carr/Ravens!!! I think the Ravens are in full defense mode this year, have one of the top rush defenses in the league, good linebacking corps, if they can just find one more gem in the corner back opposite of J. Smith, the rookie J. Young from last year did really well and wouldn't surprise me to see him starting as he did when J. Smith went down with a injury and played solid the last few games, this team has enough offense to score some points but it's the defense in 2017 that will tell the tale for making it back into the playoffs just by the way the Ravens have conducted free agency this year, spent more this free agent signings that all of the last 2 years put together!! hoping 2017 is a revisit to 2001!! all we need is Flacco to be our Dilfer!!!^&grin

I keep wondering if the NFL is worth it when these stories continue to occur...Dwight Clark battling ALS, Gayle Sayers battling dementia. Flag football, perhaps? -- Al

Sad to see Timmons leave the Steelers, but alas, it is the right decision for both. He is on his swan song to FL and every dollar matters at that stage. He will always be a Steeler in my book and it will be a different defensive look without him, but that is how it goes! Followed him from FSU forward, always thought he deserved more credit then he got, but 10 seasons from a #1 pick. He made $60M and the Steelers got every penny's worth, hopefully he does well in MIami for 2 years and comes back and retires as a Steeler.

Today the NFL approved a new rule for the upcoming season that eliminates “leapers” trying to block field goals or extra points. I guess it was inevitable.

Not sure I like it...basically might as well just let the kicker have a free try at it.
Not a rule I care all that much about though, so not going to petition the commish about it {sm4}

I dont understand this one:
" Makes actions to conserve time illegal after the two-minute warning of either half."

Does that mean running out of bounds and spiking the ball by the QB are now illegal???

From the Google Machine:

Currently if teams commit an illegal substitution penalty or lose a replay review while the clock was running and there was under one minute to play, there was a 10-second runoff. This rule change would make it a 10-second runoff when there is under two minutes to play.

A tip of the cap to the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots for stating that they will not be drafting Joe Mixon with both teams going so far as saying that they have removed him from their draft boards.

this is a good revision...these acrobatic leaps are defensed with the center trying to flip the leaper...thus...he lands awkwardly and gets hurt...good rule...still...with last year's rule changes on distance of extra points and also field goals...even extra points are no longer a sure thing...

I couldn't agree more. Check out the horrific video online. With a punch like that, I am surprised she didn't suffer more that 5 facial fractures

I am a big believer of second chances ... but there are a few categories of offences that are beyond the line.
If the NFL really wants to be visible and promote its policy of "ZERO TOLERANCE" for crimes against women, here is a wonderful opportunity.

Sadly, there will be some (owners // teams) that will think only about the "W"s in the standings.
But, I am proud to say that Kraft, Belichick and the Patriots along with the Dolphins will not be one of those.
