I would direct link this to You Tube if I knew how, but the best anthem was in Chicago done by Wayne Messmer for the 90 or 91 NHL All Star game played there.
It,s when the first Gulf war started. The crowd is clapping and yelling, waving American flags, and with all sorts of signs supporting our troops, fantastic.
Also Edmonton is good as the entire building sings the Canadien anthem along with the singer.
But the very best is when Kate Smith sings God Bless America in Philadelphia.
Does any other sport have anthems performed as good as hockey?

I go to a lot of AHL games and they usually have the local school kids or cub scouts singing the national anthem. They sometimes are a bit off key, but that's really how it should be done. btw: the Texas Stars are up 1-0 in the AHL Caulder Cup finals. Hopefully they don't lose their air conditioning like the Spurs or the players might drown.

One of my all-time favorites was the one from the Bruins game on April 17, 2013, right after the marathon bombings. Rene Rancourt started to sing and part way through the anthem the whole crowd joined in as if it was rehearsed.

Rene said afterward he's glad the crowd joined in and took it the rest of the way because he wouldn't have been able to do it on his own, he was choked up over the recent events and said he never would have made it through..................

Well, that is that.

Fortunately, the World Cup starts soon, to be followed shortly by the Tour de France, because local baseball blows

Quick was Godzilla tonight and the Rangers were Tokyo. He played out of his mind. Some ridiculous saves. The Kings were outshot 32-15. The Rangers were 0-6 on the PP.

They've been generally awful on the power play all year; it's been a constant refrain.

Team sports really are amazing whether they be football, baseball, hockey, basketball, soccer, etc, etc.

Let's take these Stanley Cup finals, or more specifically, the Kings.

They were 26th in the league out of 30 teams in scoring during the regular season.

IE, fourth worst in the league.

In these playoffs, they are THE BEST scoring team, averaging more than 3 goals per game.

In the opening round of the playoffs, they were down 0-3 to the Sharks; finished, done, toast, see you later, get out your golf clubs, have a nice off season.

Now they are one win away from winning their second Stanley Cup in three years.

Last night, they had a whopping 15 shots on net and scored 3 goals; one with .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 second left in the period that deflected off a defensemans skate blade as he tried to block it, another that deflected in off Martin St Louis as he tried to block it and a third where Richards shot the puck, it deflected off a Ranger defenseman right back to him and he buried it top shelf.

Meanwhile, Quick made not one but two saves with the paddle of his stick, one of which I still can't figure out how it did not go in the net.

Unbelievable.

Further proof that the regular season no matter the sport becomes less significant each and every year, ie, it matters not what you do in the regular season, just find a way to get to the playoffs and take it from there.

And sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, or a combination of the two is even better.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2014 Stanley Cup Champion LA Kings.

Now watch the Rangers rip off 4 wins in a row, winning game 7 in OT as a shot deflects off of Adrian Brody's nose and into the net for the game winner.

I think what you're saying is that they are this year's Hockey version of the Giants. Of course, the Rangers are no Patriots.

No, not really, the Kings are a very good team, have three superstars really, Quick is an all world goalie, Doughty is a top three defenseman, maybe the best in hockey right now, they are very talented and are deserving champions.

My point was it's amazing how things change in the blink of an eye is all.............

The hockey playoffs are a grind. It takes staying healthy and getting some luck to advance. The Kings are designed for the playoffs. They excel at low scoring, tight defensive struggles. They are also physical and deep which takes a toll on the opponent and when all else fails they have arguably the best goalie in hockey to clean up the mess. Also the best coach to have them prepared for the long haul. The Kings took a chance this year on Gaborik and it paid off big time. He's the reason they are the top scoring team in the playoffs after struggling to score goals this season. And the goals he has made were huge. Tying the Ducks in the final seconds of game one, tying the Hawks late in game seven, tying the Rangers late in game two all of which resulted in OT wins. The quirky thing about the playoffs this year was that maybe six of the top seven teams were in the west. A lopsided bracket. Only the Bruins had any shot in the East. It's not over yet though. The Kings know that better than anyone.

Hockey is a strange game. The Kings may have played their best game of the series last night and came up short. They got 41 shots but only one goal. In the previous game, they had 15 shots and three goals. Lundquvist had a great game. No breaks going the Kings way last night. Two pucks stopped on their own on the goal line! The refs continue to spot the Rangers four or more power plays in each game, but that hasn't had made much difference since they can't convert them. The Kings continue to get stronger as the game progresses. I don't think the Rangers have scored a goal in the third period or OT in the entire series.

The NHL must have changed some of their rules; specifically on the play where the puck squirted through Lundqvist's legs and died on the edge of the goal line, a Rangers player covered the puck with his glove in the crease, then pushed it under Lundqvist, that used to be a penalty, more specifically, a penalty shot would be awarded.

And on the same play, a kings player got crosschecked right in front of the goal and knocked to the ice, no call, that was just brutal, I don't get the refs when they call ticky tack BS calls in one instance and then let two incidents like that go with no calls.

All I can say is the Kings had better win Friday night as if not, rear ends will be tightening on the left coast as they head back to New York for game 6...................

One game at a time. Kings were unlucky last night. Perhaps it was the hand of God that stopped that goal. Maybe things are turning :wink2:

Sutter makes Belichek look loquacious.

I think the only way the Rangers can win this series is if the Kings plane crashes going back to LA and NY has to play LA,s minor league team!
As stated LA just got stronger as the game went on. The only thing keeping the game from OT was a pile of snow.

Carter also got slashed on a breakaway with no call. The Kings don't obsess on the refs like the Rangers though. Lundqvist went into a funk when he didn't get that goalie interference call in game two. Bad calls are a part of the game. Particularly on the road. I think the Rangers had 10 power play opportunities in the last two games. The Kings are dominating the second half of these games. The Rangers looked completely helpless down the stretch last night except for Lundqvist. Anything is possible, but I don't expect the series to go six.

Great hockey game to watch, not my favorite ending. Talk about a goalie totally unsupported in any game. The Ranger's defensemen seemed unable to move anyone from in front of the net, still continued to cough up pucks for LA scoring chances, were never in position to stop multiple tries in front of their net. The only NY player with any pride and guts was the Ranger's goalie..Michael

Great points, Lundqvist got next to nothing in regards to help this series, he was a man on an island and was spectacular, he stole game 4 and almost stole game 5.

Rangers had buzzards luck last night, Nash had a wide open net to shoot at and the puck deflected off a stick, Kings also hit a post and a crossbar, both sides had their chances.

The Kings wore down the Rangers each game in the third period and OT, the shot differential during that time heavily leaned towards the Kings.

Congrats to the Kings, they had a Bataan Death March path to the finals, had to knock off 3 legit Stanley Cup contenders along the way, were down 3-0 and 3-2 in two of the series yet came back to win both, then they had to survive vs last years champions.

10-1 in their last 11 playoff series, they are simply lethal, plus they are young and loaded with talent, they also made a great trade at the deadline and got even better.

The Bruins wouldn't have had a snowballs chance in Hell of beating this team, the Rangers played a very good series, took three games to OT, but they really were no match for the Kings, a much more physical team, it was men vs boys out there.

Great game. Lundqvist was a Capt. Kirk out there, but the rest of the Rangers were the guys in red shirts. He was a warrior and seems like a nice guy. The Kings won four straight OT games dating back to game seven of the Chicago series. Gaborik scored goals in three of those games in the third period to send them to OT. He was unbelievable in the playoffs but doesn't get the recognition he deserves. No way the Kings even get to the finals without him. Kopitar didn't score a single goal in the Hawks or Rangers series but finished as the top scorer in the playoffs. What a grueling run. I think they said Voynov had played in 120 games this season including the Olympics. That's unbelievable. I never thought I would ever see the Kings win a Cup and now it's two in three years. They may never do it again but this run was one for the ages. Coming back time and again. It was really what sports are about. A complete team effort.

It looked like the ice was slanted downhill for the Kings. Lundquest was a man alone. It hurts me every time I see Quick do that complete stretch with his legs.
Thought Doughty or Gaborik would have won the Consmyth.
