Nhl 2014 (2 Viewers)

Is this just a midwest thing? Just as the national anthem was starting in last nights game, the station suddenly goes to "first alert weather" That't when the local weatherman comes on shows all his radar pictures of the current weather situation. Now I can see if if a F-5 tornado is bearing down on the St Louis Metro area, but this was for a thunderstorm 60 miles away, although still in this channels viewing area. The weather guy even said it effects 3500 people. So what about the other 2.5 million residents of the metro area who could care less. They finally went back to the game with about 6 minutes to go in the first period. Again I ask does this happen across the country?

Be thankful it was not a snowstorm. They probably would have preempted the entire game. All part of the cultural obsession with fear driven by the neverending news cycle. Bad weather or a riot to cover equals good ratings.

It will be interesting to see if Tampa can get a win in Chicago. A game 7 would be exciting.

From what I understand all of Tampa is agog over the team. However, I have no idea how they fare in the regular season. If baseball is any indication, probably not too well. I was watching the Angel game earlier this week and that mausoleum they call Tropicana Field was deserted.

Tampa is agog over them because they are in the finals, it's yahooism at it's finest.

Just like they were agog over the Doofin Rays when they went to the WS in 2008; half the "fans" in the stands still had the price tags hanging from their hats and jerseys.

Tough loss last night; Chicago is a very good team, they are also incredibly lucky, they scored one goal off of a Keystone Kops moment where two players collided and the puck dribbled through to a Black Hawk who they threw it into an empty net, then scored the game winner off a juicy, room service cookie of a rebound and the guy had the whole net to shoot at.

I can't see anyway the Black Hawks don't close it out at home; they'll start with Enrico Palazzo singing the national anthem alongside a deck hand from the USS Constitution and some other random person and go from there..........

It seems like there have been a lot of 2-1 games in the playoffs. Not much scoring but close games. I heard on the radio that no team in the finals has led by more than one goal and they had scored an equal number of goals up until game 5. I think the Hawks take care of business tonight, but Tampa has played better on the road than at home. Tampa is really struggling to get the puck into the Chicago zone. The old dump and chase is not working too well. And I can't remember how many times a Hawk defender has managed to get a stick on a shooter or block one of the few good looks they are getting. Chicago is not really a team known for great D, but they have gotten it done in this series. Tonight would be a great time for Tampa to break out and put up four or five goals. They are certainly due for a breakout game with their big scorers.

The Blackhawks won three games in this series by the score of 2-1 and the game last night 2-0. They really had Tampa's number on defense. Tampa was supposed to be a high octane offense. They really got schooled in the coaching match up and had no answer. Maybe they also ran out of gas, but it didn't look they would have scored last night if they had played ten periods. The Blackhawks were the better team. That can only mean it is the turn of the Kings next year since Chicago and LA are taking turns winning the Cup. The King's affiliate Manchester won the Caulder Cup this year. A lot of good young players waiting to move up.

Three titles in six years, just like the Giants' titles in a similar time period, is impressive.

Congrat's to the BlackHawks and their fans. To win the cup itself and at your home arena....I can't imagine the feeling. It must be awesome! After it's all said and done some of the best play-off hockey I've seen from all the teams that made it this year.
If my total is right the Hawks played 105 games to win the cup. Long road but well worth the prize. Now all that's left is a nice juicy scandal to surface.....soft pucks, deflated pucks, drone pucks, Crawford's goalie pads are an inch too big, Stamkos wants to be a woman. Something's got to come out to give the NHL the black eye it deserves to keep up with the other major sports leagues.

I vaguely remember many years ago that Marty McSorely of the Kings was called for using an "illegal" stick in the Cup finals leading to a game tying goal when the Kings were up 1-0 in the series and leading in game two. The team they were playing waited until a big moment and pointed it out to the ref. Instead of being up 2-0 and heading home the Kings lost in OT and the series. In the NFL, there would be an eight month investigation and some minor penalty that would be announced in the offseason after the Kings had won the Cup. It would then be appealed and reduced before the next season began.

Not sure what it is, but when I get annoyed over sports, the creative juices start to flow..................:wink2:

Yeah, congratulations, awesome, the Black Hawks win another cup, good for them.

You not only have to be good in sports, you have to be lucky too and they had more than their fair share of that.

Word today is Bishop has a strained groin muscle, he looked awful in two of the last three games yet still stood on his head and kept his team in the game; can only imagine how he would have played were he 100% healthy. And the game his missed, his back up Serge SergeStalin choked up two tomato can goals, one between his legs, the bounced into the net off his pad, I don't think he even saw it.

Also, Johnson, the kid who lit up the Habs and the Rangers, had a broken forearm, which explains his lack of scoring.

And talk about lack of scoring; Stamkos had buzzards luck all series long; TWENTY TWO quality chances and he missed on every one of them. Last night, he had a bunny sitting in the crease, beautiful pass and he whiffed on it, he couldn't put the puck in the ocean.

Again, congrats to the Black Hawks; has Quineville smiled yet? He would have looked great in 1945 rolling down the streets of Berlin in a T34/85....................

What do all these Hall of Fame head coaches have in common? Joel Quennville, Scotty Bowman, Al Arbour. Their first head coaching job was with the Blues. How many Stanley Cups between them? How many for the Blues, ZERO. I think the head of human resources for the Blues needs to be replaced!

Have to give him credit, he's good at hiring HOF coaches.

Keeping them around to finish the job is a whole other issue.

I just watched the NHL Awards Show. I do every year. I think it is the hokiest, is that a proper term & spelling, you get the point, awards show ever. It seems to get worse every year. Never heard of this years host, totally unfunny. Actually the funniest part was when Jurri Hudler received his award. I'm actually embarressed as a hockey fan when I watched that show.

I didn't watch it but award shows are terrible in any context. It seems particularly unsuited for hockey players. Just an excuse to run wild in Las Vegas? Hopefully no one pulled a Jarret Stoll and got themselves arrested although he somehow managed to get off with community service. Anyone else would be spending some quality time courtesy of the Nevada tax payers. It is good to be an athlete.

The Kings get Happy Gilmore from Boston? Very strange move.

The Bruins are making a ton of moves right now.

The Lucic trade I sort of get, but they only got about 3 million in cap relief, then they go and sign McQuaid, who sucks, to a four year deal worth about 3 million a year, so they're right up against the cap again.

The Hamilton trade was awful, they got less back for him than for Lucic.

They ended up with the 13th, 14th and 15th picks in the first round, so I thought they'd package a couple and move up; nope, then they go and draft TWO guys who were clear reaches, then a third who's so so.

Unbelievable. A chimp could have read any of the mock drafts and picked the right guys at 13 through 15, but not Don Sweeney, he got booed off the stage last night and was arrogant about it to boot.

Their new GM is a complete and utter moron; he took a team that won the cup in 2011, went the finals in 2013 and won the presidents trophy in 2014 and lit it on fire.

The Bruins simply are unwilling to pay young talent, they traded away Seguin and Hamilton, both in their early twenties who could have been cornerstones for this franchise for years and got virtually nothing back in return. If you are going to trade away talent like that, make sure you get a **** ton of talent back, man oh man did they screw up both of those trades.

Between the Celtics crappy draft Thursday, this Black Friday of a draft and the Red Sox being in last place, the only bright spot around here is the Patriots; oh wait, Brady is suspended the first four games of the season?

What a hot mess.

After the 1st round and maybe the second, 90% of those draftees will never see the NHL.
I agree George the Bruins seem pretty screwed up. But worse is Edmonton. How in the world can you have as many first overall picks the last few years and be a horrible as they have been.

Agreed, it's amazing how much of a long shot it is to be in the NHL; after about the top five picks, to be honest, I've never heard of any of these guys, not going to lie.

The NBA is even more of a long shot; basically, if you take the top 50 kids each year who are draft eligible, maybe 15 or 20 of them get a sniff at the NBA.

Whenever I hear someone say "So and so on the Celtics is terrible"...............yeah, no he's not, he's in the NBA, he's one of the top basketball players in the world.

As far as Edminton; good luck to them with good old Pete in charge, he's a train wreck of a GM waiting to happen.

And you are right; with that many #1 picks, it's amazing how bad they've been the past few years.

Hall did not pan out to be the player everyone thought he'd be, Seguin is head and shoulders above him talent wise....................

So I put Lucic on my EA Sports Kings team and I'm not seeing much. Granted it's not very scientific(!) but Lucic looks out of place in la-la land. He's too angry for that climate. I could see him in Philly, but LA will be interesting. He is similar to Dustin Brown. Physical but not much of a scorer. The Kings better have another deal to get some D help.
