With my Kings left out, my interest has not been as great this year but some interesting matchups. The poor Caps seem on track for another massive choke job. If they blow this series with Toronto, they go down as the worst playoff team in all sports history in my opinion. The ghost of playoff chokes past seems to be hovering over them like a black cloud. And even if they get past Toronto it does not bode well for a rematch with Pens who are rolling again. With Chicago taking a spanking in the west, the two top seeds are now 1-5. All the action has shifted back to the East this year. Boston-Ottawa is a nasty series. Some old school hockey there with even the fans getting in the action. The key to success for St. Louis appears to be to have a troubled season. In past years they rolled through the regular season only to disappoint in the playoffs. No monkey on their back this year and the West is winnable by anyone with Chicago facing a quick exit. I would like to see Nashville and Washington but more likely Anaheim and Pittsburgh.

Nashville looks really good, then again maybe Chicago is not a perennial Cup favorite anymore?

Anyone who bets on the Caps would do better to just set their money on fire. The annual choke job is under way and full speed ahead.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The Caps looked good last night.

I am looking forward to watching the Sharks' game tonight.

After winning game one in Ottawa, the Bruins blew a 3-1 third period lead in game two, then fell behind 3 zip before tying game 3 at 3-3 only to lose it in OT.

Last night, they scored the first goal to go up 1-0..................then 20 minutes later, the refs reviewed the play and found they were offsides.............NO GOAL.

What a great system the NHL review process is.................:rolleyes2:

Then Ottawa scored a rinky dink cheap *** goal to win the game 1-0.

Adios Bruins; the Senators have set hockey back 40 years with their BS 1-3-1 neutral zone trap nonsense.

Their coach with that cheeseball accent and scar on his face would make a great Bond villain.

And the NHL blows...........................................

I absolutely hate that off side video review. I can see a video review on actual goals. But those off side calls are all so close in reality it does not effect the play.
What ever happened to that rule of a player being in the goalie crease? A few years back seems every other goal was called off because a player had his toe in the crease when a goal was scored. That is the one thing about hockey so many penalty calls are so subjective, one day it's a penalty the next day it's not.

The Caps got off to a great start last night and almost blew it. You could see the collars getting tight and the vultures starting to circle but a win is a win. They better shape up if they get the Pens. Anaheim closed out. They right run the table in the west before getting clobbered in the Cup. It's weird to watch the Blackhawks playing on their heels. The Preds are really giving them a beatdown but I never count Chicago out.

Pittsburg closed out the Christopher Columbus's thanks to a horseshit goalie interference call on the Columbus's on the go ahead goal.

Fleury did his best flop on the play like a soccer player to complete the farce; on the ensuing penalty, naturally Pittsburg scored and that was all she wrote.

Can't tell you all how thrilled I'm going to be when Sid the Kid and Fatso Phil win back to back Cups.

What a dumpster fire this sport has become.

Blackhawks about to get swept by a Nashville team that stole the Kings 1970's uniforms.....................they'll be flipping covered wagons over in downtown Nashville tonight; playoff fever, catch it all you Nashvillians........................

HEY NOW! That is the Pens you are disparaging :) I agree on the Fleury flop - in Boston they would call that a veteran move right!!!! Just kidding you, but can't have you raz the Pens too much. I am just happy knock on wood for healthy Sid, he is a special player and would like to see another Back To Back!

Ok, I'll add the the playoff woes.

The Sharks crushed Edmonton in game 4, 7-0 and last night they go up 3-1 then proceed to give up 3 unanswered goals and lose in overtime.

The Giants are off to a terrible start and the Sharks are on the brink of elimination. I guess as far as Bay Area sports go the only bright spot is the Warriors and their all too predictable forthcoming NBA title.

They were clearly the better team in the series, Columbus has been taking on water for a few months, but good Christ, that was a horrible call, the guy was hooked and basically pushed into the goalie. The thing that kills me is they called it a goal on the ice, then reviewed it and overturned it.

What did they see in the review that caused them to overturn it?

Again, in the end it wouldn't have mattered....................sorry TD, I can't get behind a team that stole the Bruins colors................:wink2:.............go back to those classic teal and black uni's and I'll be on board the Sid the kid and fatso Phil Cup train.....................

Here in Boston, the Bruins and the Celtics are about to hit the links, leaving just the Red Sox upright; they'll have to do until training camp starts for the Patriots............................

Goalie interference is completely subjective and often decides a game. It's like calling pass interference in football. You could probably make that call or not 100% of the time at the refs discretion. The off sides review is painful only because it takes so long but at least there is an objective rule to enforce. It's a real momentum killer though to score, stand around waiting for the review, and then have it overturned.

Pittsburgh Hockey teams wore Black and Yellow back in the 20's they didn't steal any ones colors. From Wikipedia, The Pittsburgh Pirates and the NHL
The Yellow Jackets stopped playing after the USAHA folded at the end of the 1924–25 season. When Schooley encountered financial problems he sold the team to James Callahan, a lawyer from Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville. Callahan was granted an NHL expansion team and simply transferred the Yellow Jackets into the NHL as his expansion club keeping the entire roster of the Yellow Jackets intact. Schooley wanted to keep the rights to the "Yellow Jackets" name per the sale of the club, so Callahan had to rename the team when it entered the NHL. He choose Pittsburgh Pirates, stealing the name from the baseball club, something the new NFL team would also do eight years later. Callahan kept the Yellow Jackets black and yellow uniforms. He simply modified the "P" logo on the front and had a word mark arched over the "P" that read "Pirates". Because of this, the NHL club wore a black and yellow color combination before the Major League Baseball team did who at the time were red, white, and blue. The Pirates made it to the Stanley Cup semifinals within a year. The Pirates were also barely nudged out of the playoffs. In 1926, the playoff series was just two games long, with total goals deciding the issue. The Pirates, who finished third in the seven-team NHL, lost to the Montreal Maroons, 3-1, in the opener in Pittsburgh and tied, 3-3, in Montreal. The Maroons' 6-4 edge in goals gave them the series and they went on to win the 1926 Stanley Cup. Among the Jackets-turned-Pirates were two Hockey Hall of Famers—Lionel Conacher and goalie Roy Worters. The Pirates would operate from 1925 until 1930.

Speaking of colors, team teal aka the San Jose Sharks were eliminated by Edmonton last night. hopefully San Jose finally cuts ties with GM Doug Wilson who is the longest serving general manager in the four major sports without a championship th show for it.

So the top two teams in the West - Chicago and Minnesota - are both out after going 1-8 in the first round. The odds of that must have been a million to one. I think Chicago only scored something like three goals in the entire series against Nashville.

To my shock, and the rest of the DC area, the annual choke is delayed until the next series.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Pittsburgh - Washington 2nd round. That should determine the Stanley Cup winner but the way these playoffs are going who knows?

I'm old school... if you played in the old Adams Division, in the post season I'm pulling for you...
