NHL Playoffs (1 Viewer)

To my shock, and the rest of the DC area, the annual choke is delayed until the next series.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The Caps showed some backbone in this series. They easily could have choked. Hopefully that carries over to the series with the Pens. That should be a war. Getting a veteran winner like Justin Williams really helped in this series. The guy has an amazing playoff record particularly in games 7s. If Jerry West was Mr. Clutch in the NBA, then JW is that guy in the NHL.

Caps vs. Pens is always great. You have to wonder how many more shots Ovechkin is going to get at winning the Cup.

Pretty good game between Nashville and St. Louis. A lot of hard hitting. The Preds are now 5-0 in the playoffs. 3-0 on the road. Time for the big boys tonight in DC.

Lots of sports for me tonight, The Pens and Caps game, the Spurs game and the NFL draft.

Caps down two zip to Sid the Kid and Fatso Phil......................it's way early, but why do I get the feeling the Capitals trying to win a playoff series vs the Penguins is like France going to war with Germany and hoping for a positive result....................

Capitals storm back to tie it, only to lose 3-2.

Rangers lose to the Senators 2-1.

Pretty good game between the Caps and Pens. I thought the Caps outplayed them most of the game but Fleury managed to make some great saves down the stretch. If you are the Caps, you just tip your hat to the Pens on that first game and don't feel too bad. They brought the effort just no puck luck. This one is going to be a war.

The Caps laid another playoff egg in game 2 and have now held the infamous team-only meeting. No doubt striking terror into the Pens. Holtby looks scared bad in goal. His backup looked even worse. I think I read that not only had Ovechkin never won a Cup but he has never even made it to the eastern conference finals. If that is true, you would hard pressed to find a more dominant athelete in any sport with that kind of playoff futility. Maybe Wilt. But even he managed to win a couple of championships. Ovi's situation would be like Michael Jordan never making it to the finals.

What can you say? The Caps losing in the playoffs is inevitable. It's like death and taxes, there is no escaping it. I heard somewhere that the Caps have lost 8 out of 9 playoff series against the Pens, or something like that. Sounds like a done deal to me. -- Al

My nod for never making the conference finals goes to Marcel Dionne. He is number 6 on the NHL all-time scoring list with almost 1,800 points but he never made it past the second round of the playoffs in his entire career

The Capitals finally figured out how to beat the Penguins; a slash to Crosby's shoulder, then his head, then as he fell, another guy cross checks him across the head and he's out of the game.....................Caps blow a 2-0 lead but pull it out in OT, now down 2-1 in the series.

The Caps really dodged a bullet. That would have been a soul-crushing, franchise destroying loss to blow that game after being up 2-0 in the final minutes. It would have been time to consider dealing Ovechkin while he still has some value. But a win is a win and Shattenkirk made up for some horrific errors both in this game and the previous one. The irony of this series is that the Caps have generally outplayed the Pens but they can't score any goals on Fleury.

Having watched Shatennkirk play here in St Louis he has some offensive skills, especially on the power play but his defense is suspect. He gives up the puck way to much. When my wife notices it you know it's bad.
My opinion the cross check to Crosbys head looked more as a reflex move not an intentonal.

The Caps practically started making space for the Cup when they picked up Shattenkirk. I had never even heard of him but the media made it into the trade of the century. From what I've seen in the playoffs, he is a real dud. His PP turnover that led to a Pens shorthanded goal was classic. Of course he redeemed himself a bit last night saving their bacon with that OT goal. I'm not sure what is going on with Ovechkin. Someone apparently told him to forget about scoring and bang people into the boards. They were complimenting him last night on getting in the blue paint, but the man is a scorer not an enforcer. He needs to fire up that laser beam shot from the circle and stop trying to be Dave "the hammer" Schultz. How much mileage will NBC squeeze out of that hit on Crosby? I bet they play that replay a dozen times before the next game. The moon landing will pale in publicity before this series is over.

Not to over simplify things, but Nashville looks really good and Rinne seems like a wall in net for them.

I'm sure the executives in the NHL office are thrilled with the ratings bonanza a potential Nashville/Ottawa SC finals would bring.........................:rolleyes2:

I don't like to blame the referees but that was a total BS call on Reeves in that scrum. They played like that all night and no calls. Nashville then scores on the PP.
Nashville must be on steroids. They look like the best team in all the playoffs. Like George said, what a TV rateings nightmare if Nashville gets to the finals. Only audiance will be if Carrie Underwood sings the anthem. One of the best analyist in St Louis commented that yes Nashvilles crowds are noisey and supportive but half of them don't have a clue as to the actual hockey game and what is going on.

I'm pretty sure Ottawa won't be there. The Rangers spanked them last night and they probably don't get past the Caps/Pens. There should be a drinking game tonight where you have to down a shot every time they mention Crosby's injury/hit.
