NHL Playoffs (2 Viewers)

I'm pretty sure Ottawa won't be there. The Rangers spanked them last night and they probably don't get past the Caps/Pens. There should be a drinking game tonight where you have to down a shot every time they mention Crosby's injury/hit.

I'm hoping for Blues/Capitals as that guarantees one long suffering fan base would be rewarded...............

3 - 1 - LET"S GO PENS. I understand the bang bang play, but the hit on Crosby is still a bad one, it happens, but doesn't matter, it was an illegal hit and he hopefully recovers as never like to see someone take that kind of hit. Best revenge would be sending the Caps home.................again. I would like to see the curse continue!

Presidents Trophy winners two years in a row, down 3-1 in the series; just getting to the conference finals would be a major accomplishment for this team, man are they cursed, that arena must be built on an indian burial ground or something..........................chronic underachievers.........................Smoltzy looks human, it's been all downhill for him every since as the back up to the back up, he stood on his head for 7 games and stoned the Bruins back in 2010.....................

The pattern to this series has been pretty simple. The Caps outplay and outshoot the Pens for most of the game but Fleury stops everything. Eventually someone on the Pens makes a play and scores. Game over. Ovechkin has been invisible. Time to deal him to some bottom dweller out west like Arizona or Vancouver to play out his career and stock up on younger talent. The Pens are blocking 30 shots or so a game. Frustrating. The Pens have looked fairly average except for Fleury who is playing out of his mind.

It is odd, it has been like that since I was in college at Uof MD with Lemieux. I understand Caps frustration, the PENS seemingly have their number. Fleury is another story, I honestly am in disbelief, but happy with his play, I just hope it continues, you never know with him. Again, would like to see Kid back as that literally sucks for him. But its one of the risks. As with any superstar, have to strike while they are hot, same as I say with the Steelers, Big Ben is not getting any younger, time is running short. If Crosby can get back healthy, they got a shot. Still have to beat the Caps one more time and I think its going to be tough.

Hilarious or sad article in the Wash Post today (depending on your perspective) about how often the Caps have outshot their opponents in the playoffs only to lose. A trend that dates back for years now. Five of the last fifteen times that a team has lost in the playoffs with a shot margin of over 35 while holding an opponent to less then 25 belong to one team. Guess who?

That's our Caps.:rolleyes2: -- Al

This post got me curios so I did some reading up on the President's Trophy. It has been handed out 31 times since it was created in 1985-86 and in that time only 8 recipients of it have gone on to win the Stanley Cup. Some player actually think it is a curse!

The Caps are not done yet, but they are on the brink.

This is ironic, didn't Fleury get yanked last year when Pittsburg went on a run and won a cup? I'm pretty sure he peed down his leg in the playoffs and got yanked; the Bruins torched him on their way to a championship in 2011.

Pittsburg, Chicago and the Kings have won the last five championships.

Sorry, I don't see anyone beating Pittsburg.....................................imagine if they get to the finals and lose to Nashville.

Hey, when you go up against a franchise with a tradition of winning like Nashville, you're screwed............................................

The Blues figured out the Predators and won last night 2-1. My bet is you will not get more than 2 past Rinne at this point so holding Nashville to 1 goal is a winning formula.

What a comeback last night by the Ducks, down 3-0 with about 4 minutes left, they scored not one, not two, but three goals with the goalie pulled/6 on 5 to tie it, then they won it in double OT.

Today the Rangers were up early 2-0, the Senators stormed back and took the lead 3-2 and now the Rangers have tied it going into the third period.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; there is nothing like playoff hockey.

Rangers score in OT, but the goal is waved off due to a high stick, then the Senators score to win it.....................I don't know, looked like the guy carrying the puck was offsides, his skates crossed the line before the puck did, but they reviewed it and it was called a goal, so there you go, Rangers down 3-2 after blowing 2-0 and 3-2 leads...................they had this won, but blew it.

Playoff hockey is incredible. Don't get me wrong, I like the other sports too but the Stanley Cup recipe of "grind it out, I hate you, you hate me over a series of games" is the absolute best.

Capitals win to force a game 6; would LOVE to see a game 7 if for no other reason than to see which Fleury shows up, the one that stands on his head or the one who craps himself under pressure...................love the way the skates around after letting in a goal like an escaped mental patient.................please sports God, make it happen...........................

In order, I'll go NHL playoffs, NCAA men's basketball tournament, NFL playoffs, MLB playoffs...................................................then way down the list, NBA playoffs.

In the second round, the average margin of victory has been 10 points..............................WOW, talk about exciting.

I really hope some team from the East emerges at some point in the next year or two to knock off the Cadavers, so sick of them. Yeah, I get it, LeBron is a mega talent, blah, blah, blah, but enough is enough................................

The Nashville....................................................................Predators (had to look that one up) advance to the WC finals for the first time in their history; covered wagons everywhere in Nashville won't be safe tonight....................................Good Christ.

Well like I have said for the past 50 years, maybe next year. Problem, I'm 70 and running out of next years! I will say this, the Blues actually advanced farther than I ever gave them hope for this year. I will now be rooting for the Oilers. There is a player, Pat Maroon on the team that went to, not with, the same high school my two son's went to.

Great post. One of the biggest reasons why I think the Stanley Cup playoffs are the best is that they are so unpredictable. Once the playoffs you can throw the regular season out the window in the NHL. The exact opposite is true in the NBA.

Haven't bought into the Caps yet, (way too many El Foldos), and they have a bad history in Game 7's against the Pens, (0-3), but tonight's win was dominating and impressive. Game 7 will be exciting, one way or the other, mainly because I never expected a Game 7. -- Al

Fleury will be mumbling glove side high, glove side high, glove side high for a few days after that train wreck tonight.....................just an awful performance................momentum in sports is a funny thing, I've seen this movie before, maybe the Capitals can channel the 2004 Red Sox and finally rid themselves of the Penguin curse....................and I love Doc Emrick, but his comment tonight about the Penguins in their traditional gold and black uniforms?

What?

Sorry Doc, they stole those colors from the Bruins in the 70's to try to channel the Pirates WS and Steelers SB successes while wearing those colors, the "traditional" Penguins colors are teal and black, not gold and black.

The Penguins should go back to those colors as that sweater is iconic; I saw some wrecking ball wearing a throwback Malkin sweater at a restaurant in Gettysburg while I was there for the show last month, I was going to comment on how nice the sweater looked but I was afraid he'd eat me..............................
