NHL Playoffs (2 Viewers)

In my opinion, there is no better sport to watch live than hockey. And if you ever get a chance to sit in the front row it is amazing (although you may get a crick in your neck from having to look up and down the ice). It's a fast paced, physical game that loses something on TV. Anyone who has never gone to a game should give it a try. You couldn't force me at gun point to venture out into the crowds and misery of most other sports events, but hockey is still fun. Hockey fans also tend to be knowledgeable and incredibly loyal to the game.

From what I gather lower level, mid ring....can't wait!!

Thoughts and prayers to the families and friends of the players from the Humboldt Broncos, a Jr hockey team from Canada, their team bus was involved in a horrific crash Friday night on the way to a playoff game, 15 individuals were killed, the photos from the accident scene are horrific, the bus was literally cut in half, amazing that anyone survived that accident.

A bunch of kids basically with their whole lives in front of them are now gone; very sad, makes you stop and think about how precious life is and how cruel it can be at the same time.

Just terrible.

Well thanks to them burping and farting their way through the last week of the season and losing 3 out of 4 including 2 to the Florida Marlins (they are the Marlins right; or is it the Devil Rays..................nice crowd they had there in FL the other night with a playoff berth on the line, must have been a tractor pull in town that night), the Bruins now get the Maple Laughs instead of the NJ Devils.

I'm expecting them to get bounced in the first round; what a piss poor effort tonight with a home ice throughout the playoffs on the line, no excuse for such a **** effort vs a team that had their backs packed for the off season.

Infuriating.

George:

Like you always say, in the playoffs all it takes is a hot goalie to take a team the Cup.

Who knows, maybe Tuukka Rask is that guy this year?

Tuukka looks tired to me, he's played like *** the past week or so, the Maple Laughs have a very good offense, a great power play, they had home ice right there for the taking and lost twice to the Marlins, I think they get bounced in round one..............when it walks and quacks like a duck, it's a duck, we'll see.....................

I have to give Florida some credit. They played with a lot of moxie after being eliminated from the playoffs. Most teams are breaking out the golf clubs at that point but they win two games including a road game in Boston with the top spot in the east on the line for the Bruins. It really shook things up with Boston now having to play Toronto and Tampa getting NJ who they are 0-3 against. Some good first round matchups. One thing I really dislike about the NHL network is that constant scroll at the bottom. Last night the only NHL "news" was that the Rangers had fired their coach (shocking!) and they ran that across the screen throughout the entire game.

Let's Go PENS - in it again, who knows, we have had a good run as of late, would be nice to do it again, but odds are against us!

Oh are the playoffs starting? 51 years and still waiting for the first cup!

Oh yeah, absolutely, couldn't agree more; listen, anytime you're playing a team with a rich tradition like the Marlins, this is bound to happen. They've been in the league for a whopping 25 years and have a rabid bandwagon fan base that couldn't tell you if a puck is inflated or stuffed. They've won countless Stanley Cups...........oh wait, they've never won one..........ok, well they have a **** ton of players in the hockey HOF.............oh wait, they don't have anyone in the hockey HOF..................well, they've got just as good of a shot as anyone to win the cup this year.......oh wait, they didn't make the playoffs.

ZERO excuse to lose to this team, that's embarrassing considering what was on the line.

Pathetic.

Prediction time:

West:

Nashville 4 Colorado 1 - start with the low hanging fruit. The Preds look unbeatable at home and much improved on the road. They are the team to beat and the Avs are the ideal first whipping boys. Saddle up the mule. It's going to be a long ride in those covered wagons.

Las Vegas 4 LA Kings 3 - good series. The Kings are playoff built. They are physical and know how to win low scoring, defensive games. Vegas is tough at home. The Kings are good on the road. I think LA wins at least one in Vegas but can't hold serve at home.

Anaheim 4 San Jose 2 - the Ducks quietly slipped up the playoff ranks as a red hot team to end the season. Home ice and playing well. They win despite some of the ugliest uniforms in sports history.

Winnipeg 4 Minnesota 2 - the Jets are good enough to get past the first round but that may be it.

East:

Pittsburgh 4 Philadelphia 2 - a grudge match between two teams that hate each other. Look for Philly to try to bully Crosby and company. The Flyers have been red hot and ice cold this year. They should make a series of this but aren't good enough to close out the defending champs.

Washington 4 Columbus 2 - the Caps are loose this year with the president's cup monkey off their backs. Goalies are playing well. They get her done and then it is high noon with the Pens for revenge. Another Caps playoff choke though and everyone goes to the guillotine.

Tampa 4 NJ 2 - the Devils are a surprising 3-0 against the top team in the east. They might make it interesting but Tampa is too good.

Boston 4 Toronto 3 - maybe the best matchup. Boston really put themselves in trouble losing to Florida and catching the Leafs in the first round. It goes seven and then the winner might be worn out.

Can't argue with your picks but I might pick LA over Vegas.

Tom:

I still owe you a drink (or is it 2?) from the last time the Pens beat the Sharks in 2016.

I like the Sharks chances of beating the Ducks.

If anyone here has ever played hockey or even knows how to ice skate, contact the Flyers and they may let you play goalie. They got shelled in the first period. The Pens are flying. At the very least, the old-school Flyers would start a brawl and go out fighting. Where is Dave "the Hammer" Schultz?

Maybe they can sign Foles to a contract; he'll play out of his *** for a few games and they'll get on a roll.

Worked for the Iggles; the sooner the Flyers get knocked out the better.

George,
just to keep you happy this playoff season......................LETS GO PENS! 1 game doesn't make a run, but they are off to a good start. Would it be nice to 3peat, yes! But I am realistic, I won't be a believer until they reach the finals and as I said, I think the odds be against us matey!

The hockey thread wouldn't be the same without a LET'S GO PENS!!, just like the baseball thread isn't the same without a LET'S GO O'S!!, so keep up the brilliant work.

I look forward to the Penguins winning the cup again so fatso Phil can fill it with hot dogs when it's his turn to have it for a few days, surprised he didn't make a giant hot fudge sundae in it instead.

So Pittsburgh wins 7 to 0 or whatever it was. The next game Philly will win 1 to 0. Every game is completely different.

Playoff blowouts are often a curse. The blown out team almost always comes back with a strong game. Philly looked pathetic though. I saw two things in that game that I haven't seen before. A puck that broke in half and Crosby scoring a goal with his back turned to the goalie by swiping a puck out of mid air into the net. The Philly goalie looked like he was made of fog. The pucks went straight through him to the net.

I was also mystified by the "white out" in Winnipeg since the home team was wearing blue and the visiting Wild had on white. The Vegas pregame show was a real hoot. My Kings put up a good fight but couldn't score. Something like 120 hits in that game. It was Kings hockey at 1-0 but no win. Maybe a good sign though.
