It's just about that time. The long national nightmare of the regular season is coming to a close. My LA Kings were eliminated about six months ago. The good news is that they get a decent draft pick. Tampa looks unbeatable which means they probably lose in the first round. Nashville is making a late run. Time for George to call for the covered wagons. If the Beantown Bruins win, the unhappy people of Boston may experience some emotion other than abject misery having won the Super Bowl, World Series and Stanley Cup in the same year. The sun might even come out one day in August and melt their igloos.

Not sure what to expect of the Pens, I just hope we make it past the first round b/c I would love to ruin the Caps run, forgot how much I hate those jerks until last year. Brings back fun College memories. Like I said last year for the Caps, the old saying, the sun has to shine on a dog's rump every once in awhile. Still hate them.

I am hoping it will be San Jose vs. Boston. I also hope that it will be Golden State vs. Boston in the NBA.

If that happens then all four major sports will have been California vs. Boston championships.

For a sport whos playoffs are just about the most exciting thing going, their seeding format is a broken toilet.

Explain to me how the Bruins play Toronto in round one, then the winner gets Tampa; if the Bruins win, the two best teams in the east (arguably, I still think the Caps are the second best team behind Tampa) play in the second round.

Why not just seed the teams 1-8 based on, oh, I don't know, record...……...and 1 play 8, 2 play 7, etc, etc.

I think the Bruins will have their hands full with Toronto and should they advance, the Lightning will Blitzkrieg them in 5 games...………….then those diehard yahoos in Tampa will have a shot at another SC Championship.

The Bruins motto should be "win a SC for the 60 day olds who have yet to witness a championship in this city"...………………….

If by some miracle the Bruins and Celtics win championships, giving Boston a major sports championship sweep, heads will explode from NY to LA and back again...……………...

As discussed before, in the NHL anyone who makes the playoffs has a legitimate shot.

The NBA is the exact opposite. No one is going to beat the Warriors.

Oh and speaking of Boston, you fellas have to hear the callers on local sports talk radio shredding the RS for their 2-6 start...……………..they could be the first team in sports history during their banner raising/championship ring ceremony who get booed off the field...……….honestly, sometimes I'm embarrassed to be from here, people here are such "Glass is half empty/THEY'RE RUINING MY SUMMA!!" yahoos sometimes.

The RS have won FOUR WS titles since 2004; FOUR.

That's four more than I ever thought they'd win.

I figured after the 1975 WS failure, the 1978 historic collapse, the 1986 nutpunch and the 2003 ALCS disaster it would never, ever happen.

I'm thrilled with one; FOUR? Are you kidding me?

They've got a get out of jail card for life with me, not to mention with the way the gashouse gorillas loaded up in the off season, I figured they'd win 140 games this year, so I've basically mailed 2019 in already.

I think this is a correct stat. St Louis has had the best record in the NHL since January 1st. Went from last in the entire NHL to having a chance tomorrow to win there division. This is just the type of team that sneaks into the finals.

2-6 with only a thousand and ten games left in the baseball season? They are clearly doomed. I'm surprised Larry King hasn't started showing up with the grim reaper behind home plate. Gronk says they win 69 in a row.

I hope you're coming to the Gettysburg show; you can do stand up in front of my tables to keep me awake, I never get any sleep when I'm in that town, I think it's all the ghosts from the battlefield that keep me awake...….

Time to pick 'em and there are no easy calls in the first round.

Tampa 4 Columbus 2: Columbus will give them a run here but Tampa looks too good.

Pittsburgh 4 NYI 3: Good series. The Pens always seem to be a great playoff team and get the calls.

Washington 4 Carolina 3: An upset wouldn't surprise me. Carolina is playing well.

Boston 4 Toronto 2: Bruins will make a run.

St. Louis 4 Winnipeg 3: Might be the best series. The Blues seem to always choke but they are hot.

San Jose 4 Vegas 2: Vegas gets some playoff reality.

Nashville 4 Dallas 2: The Preds struggled on and off but they have shown some toughness down the stretch.

Calgary 4 Colorado 1: The Avs might surprise but probably not.

Pretty much agree but I might take Dallas over Nashville as Dallas is been hot lately. I know I did not want the Blues to face Dallas in the first round.

I obliviously want San Jose to win it all, but I'd be OK with St. Louis too.

Gary is a dedicated fan who deserves a Stanley Cup.

Tampa really choked one away. They had a 3-0 lead and blew it at home. Interested to see how the Caps make out. They play a decent team in Carolina and I don't sense that same urgency from last year. If they move on, they get the Pens or Barry Trotz's Islanders in the next round. Both make for an interesting series. Say what you will about Trotz's playoff woes before last season, his teams have a great track record in the regular season. The Caps had the best record two or three times while was there and he has the Islanders playing well.

I keep waiting for Blues goalie Binnington to come back to earth. He was spectacular last night. And to think going into this season he was 4th in the depth charts for Blues goalies.

I am shocked that the Tampa series is going the way it is.

Home teams are 5-7 so far. Not much of an advantage.

Boy the Devil Rays are in deep ****.

Oh wait, they changed their name a few years ago to just the Rays.

That's them, right?

What an awesome series, Columbus vs Tampa, two original 32 teams battling it out, hockey royalty at it's finest.

Really love both of the team uniforms too, they remind me of those cheeseball uniforms from Slap Shot...……………

Home ice means squat in playoff hockey, that's for sure.
