Blach Hawks did have an amazing year. I think they lost only five games.

The Hawks are the reason I didn,t buy playoff tickets this year. I can,t see any team beating them.

They haven't met the Penguins yet ... with Sid back in team practice friday they can only get better .

Dreams die hard. Not sure how they'll face the Black Hawks; they're not in the Western Conference :rolleyes2:

I think they may have peaked too soon. The NHL playoffs are an odd duck. The Kings finished 8th in the West, barely made the playoffs, and had the fewest goals per game of any team last season and they won the cup. No one in a million years could have predicted that. The Washington Caps are suddenly red hot. They are cursed, but this might be their year. Montreal and Boston are trending down.

Just having a little fun at your expense ^&grin Yes, they are the favorite to face the Black Hawks.

The Kings are drawing the Blues again in the first round. That should be a real grudge match after the Kings handled them last year. I'm hoping the Peoria curse comes back to bite Stillman this year. The Caps are red hot in the East. They have their own curse, but this might be the year.

This could be the prediction and co-incidence of the year. The Redskins once won a Super Bowl in a strike-shortened season. Time for the Caps to duplicate it.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

It seems that it would be hard (but not impossible) to deny the Penguins from going to the Stanley Cup this year. I can't see anybody preventing that. The Rangers Caps series looks hard to pick as their records are nearly identical and both have played very well in their last ten, although the Caps have played a tad better. Feel sorry for the Islanders. First time they've made the playoffs in a long time and their reward is the Penguins.

Even tho the Blues are my team, I,m looking for LA to win this series in 5, hope I,m all wrong, but LA easilly handled the Blues all year.
Still think the Hawks will glide to the cup.

Time to pick the first round outcomes:

East:

Pittsburgh 4 NYI 1

Montreal 4 Ottawa 2

Boston 4 Toronto 2

Washington 4 NY Rangers 2

West:

LA 4 St. Louis 3

Anaheim 4 Detroit 2

San Jose 4 Vancouver 3

Chicago 4 Minnesota 2

I pretty much agree, I think the only toss up series where either team can win is Vancouver - SanJose & N.Y. - Washington.
Whats bad about this year I have not seen much of the East Division except a little on tv.
Funny, last Saturday I was at the Blues Chicago game in St Louis. The Hawks had already clinched the Presidents trophy, so they left all their stars, Kane, Hossa, Towes, etc in Chicago and brought up minor league players from Rockford IceHogs. Well when Chicago comes to town the St Louis arena is usually about 40% Chicago fans. So thru much of the game with Chicago losing the Chicago fans started chanting "Let,s Go IceHogs, Let,s Go IceHogs".

I agree with all of your picks except Boston/Toronto, the leafs will win it in 6, the Bruins are toast.

All they needed to do was win one of their remaining two games and they clinch the #2 spot; Saturday in Washington, they were up 2-0, then chicken bleep penalty, PP goal Washington, double chicken bleep penalty, PP goal Washington, then in OT, triple chicken bleep penalty (you practically have to break a stick over someones head in OT to draw a penalty), yet the refs call a chicken bleep one and bingo, PP goal Caps win.

And naturally, Smoltzy stood on his head for most of the game too; if that ham and egger played the Bruins every night, he'd win the Vezna.

Then yesterday they lose at home.

They are toast.

I think it will be a little different:

Pittsburgh
Ottawa
Rangers
Maple Leafs

Blackhawks
Ducks
Vancouver
LA

I read today that this is the first time in many, many years that the origional 6 NHL teams are all in the playoffs.
I,m not complaining since I didn,t buy playoff tickets and I know why they do it, for TV. But St louis second home game does not start un til 8:30PM St Louis time.
Playoff time is the only time I can watch in full a non Blues game and really get into it.

The great thing about the NHL playoffs is that most every team has a chance if they get good goal tending. The regular season record is not that important. The Blackhawks and Penguins are the favorites, but teams like the Caps and Red Wings finished hot. Boston and Montreal are trending down. Anaheim-Detroit will be an intersting first round series. Anaheim has been one of the better team this year, but Detroit is surging. The Kings-Blues should be physical. The Blues are playing well and added some physical players. The Kings have owned them. Game 1 will be huge in that series. If the Blues get that one, they will put the pressure on LA. I think all the playoff games are on TV again this year. Anyone see that gadget they advertise where you can listen to your TV with wireless headphones and ignore your family? That would be a great gift in the next couple of weeks.

I think if you use those wireless headphones, you won't have to use them long because either your family will have left or will ask you to leave {eek3}

I,m now starting to kick myself for not buying playoff tickets. Seems everyone but myself think the Blues will do fine. I agree Combat, if the Blues win game one, I think they can win the series. Loose it and they will loose confidence and LA will roll over them.
Gary

The Kings were dominated and completely outplayed for the entire game, but almost stole this one. That would have been devastating to the Blues. Quick made it a game stopping 40 shots when they should have been behind 8-0. Hopefully the Kings wake up for game two.
