After Blues dominate for 59.30 minutes, LA scores. I say to my wife, "aren,t you glad we didn,t buy playoff tickets". OT, Shattenkirk gets 4 minutes for high sticking, I get up to get a beer and tell my wife "it,s over". PLEASE someone kick me! Steen scores shorthanded on an absolutely bonehead play by the star of the game Quick.
I guess tho I wasn,t the only St Louis fan that didn,t give the Blues much of a chance. The arena was 2000 fans short of a sellout. I guarantee the next game will be sold out!

This one played out about as expected. I knew the Blues were going to be fired up at home after getting swept last year. The question now is whether they can sustain that intensity. And even after completely dominating the Kings they went into OT and were on the ropes until Quick gave it away. Game two is a must win for the Kings. I expect them to be much more physical and get a few goals. Kopitar and Carter are due. If they can do that, Quick is hard to beat.

Well lookie here, the Stanley Cup Champion Penguins actually lost a playoff game.

Their defense and their goalie are not very good, this is playoff hockey now, no more cupcakes on the schedule that you can pummel night in and night out.

Game three in NY should be fun, maybe Louis can shoehorn himself into his Mike Bossy vintage shirt and go catch a game or better yet, maybe he can borrow one from Gary; collecting NHL jerseys is your new hobby now is it not Gary?

Had to find another hobby as toy soldiers have become to expensive!
I,ve got a couple of Islanders jerseys Louis can easily fit into. Also a couple of Bruins for you.

Hey guys, I don't really follow hockey so I would like to ask what the opinions are regarding the Caps chances against the Rangers. Our newspaper, the Washington Post, says that the Caps got some lucky breaks in game 1. Opinions? -- Al

Al,

The Caps are favored in this series and Rangers, except for the last 10 games, didn't have a good year so I'd say chances are good but it's probably going to be a very close series.

Thanks, Brad. I knew that the Caps had gotten hot at season's end, after a terrible start, but I have no idea how good other teams are. Maybe I will watch a game or two and see.:wink2: -- Al

Too expensive/running out of room/losing interest, etc, etc, which is why new blood is essential in this or any other hobby, thankfully new collectors come into the hobby every day, met a new one at the Gettysburg show last weekend who has plenty of money, plenty of room and a lot of enthusiasm, so one door closes, another one opens..................I've got a Neely and a Bourque jersey, so I'm good............

Capitals are the second best team in the East, it will be them vs the Stanley Cup Champion Penguins in the conference final.............

I know a few people around town that wouldn't mind this scenario.^&grin Meanwhile, I see the Caps and Rangers have gone to OT in a scoreless tie. -- Al

Yep, I see Smotlzy is back to his form of last year, stoning the Rangers and bingo, the Caps win in OT, now up 2-0.

The Caps are this years version of last years Kings; sleepwalking through most of the season, getting hot at the end, riding a hot goalie.

Write it down now.

In pen.

Washington Capitals, 2013 Stanley Cup Champions, Smoltzy wins the playoff MVP trophy.

Awesome, how wonderful.

George, I wouldn't be too quick to hand the cup to the Caps. They have proven to have a bad allergy to the trophy.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I get a laugh seeing Holtby doing so well again for the Caps. He played most of the year for the AHL Hershey Bears and was a .500 goalie at that level. The Bears have a younger guy named Grubauer who most of the fans there prefer. But Holtby shuts out the Rangers today in OT. Speaking of which I'm heading out to see game 3 of the Bears and Providence Bruins tonight. The Bruins had the #1 team heading into the playoffs but are down 2-0 in a best of 5 series.

A blind squirrel finds an acorn every once and awhile, so fear not, it's the Caps year, I have a feeling................

With thd Pens stumble , the 'Hawks are the clear leaders to take home the Cup !

one defeat hardly constitutes being out of the play-offs , we just wanted to seal the deal on our own ice :)

sidney back to his best and neal skating again - bring the cup home.

No, but it's a stumble and given their history of first round exits it's probably in the back of their minds. If they get behind in game 3, who knows what could happen, plus Isles are playing with house money. Any wins are a plus.

Whoever wins the LA, St Louis series will be to beatup to continue!
It is a pure war on ice in this matchup.
