I don't have any scenics for this range yet but i just couldn't help myself. I re-purposed my steppe terrain mat and took a picture of the wonderful DAK Sd.Kfz.232. If this vehicle is an indication of what is to come I'm really looking forward to this range.

Fantastic Frank:smile2:...can't wait for you to develop the DAK diorama with the Panzer III's:salute::

Seeing this dio Frank makes it even more exciting to be getting another WWII line!! I'm pre-ordering a few DAK guys here shortly, also looking forward to some great dios from this line in the future...Sammy

Frank - I'll say it again - your photo skills make me want to want to rush on-line and buy the products you show. You are most creative and your use of light is just wonderful.

I have been experimenting with ground cover, light, white balance etc. with my 232 and it has proven to be surprisingly challenging. Convincing sand is difficult to achieve and the variations in sand color is astonishing.

Anyway, here is my latest effort.

Looking forward to getting the figures soon hopefully.

Did you add anything to the actual appearance of the vehicle or is that " the straight from the factory " weathering? Michael

The only photo effect added to this picture is the dust tossed up by the wheels. Personally I think the FL representation of RAL8020 is excellent and the weathering is very good. My only complaint is the tires look too new.

Very well done.
As to the issue of sand, if you try to use real sand I think it will always look grainy, just too large for the scale your photographing. I've used fabric I found very cheaply at hobby Lobby but I'm sure you could find at any fabric store. this is a mottled tan, you would have a bit of versatility for elevation change and rough ground as well.

Looks amazing Frank, I recently read an article for making sand and that is to paint the base a sand colour and then while still wet sprinkle with salt and then allow to dry thoroughly. Once dry paint the salt with a coat of the base colour.

**** that's nice Frank , thanks for taking the time to share with us .. Regards Gebhard

I'm glad you guys enjoy the pictures and thanks for the suggestions. The sand used in this picture is actually an ultra fine craft sand I found at Michaels. I think from a scale perspective it actually works OK. Much like the Stalingrad tange I expect this series of photographs to evolve as I learn more.
